Sunshine's eyes widened. Riku knew the song, too? Well, duh, almost everyone in the English speaking word knew the song. But she was surprised he could actually carry a tune. She had never heard him sing while they were dating. Not once. It was making her fall in love even more. They were ushered to the table. The setup reminded her of dinners with her family. The four of them sitting around and laughing. The crepes were melting in her mouth upon the first few bites. She could only nod at Riku's serious comment, swallowing and continuing to blush at hearing his husky voice.

Riku was eating happily. The food was exquisite. He'd have to remember to hire Francine whenever they came back, if ever. But with every passing moment he was more certain they would. And they hadn't even left the house yet. He looked over at Sunshine enjoying the food and he felt happy. This was for her, to soothe her from whatever terror was making bags under her eyes back home, and already she looked better. The spark in her that had dimmed was shining again.
When they finished he showed her the way to the bedroom and the closet, where'd he put all her clothes. And a few surprises he'd bought, with help from her friend Red. Dresses tailored to her, with sun crests and moon earrings. He wanted this to be special. She shone and he wanted her to shine more. "Tomorrow I was thinking going to Paris" he said quietly. "The Louvre is open then, and then there are galleries that you'd love to look at"

Sunshine's eyes were so wide at the selection they looked like oversized emeralds. Breakfast had been sitting well in her stomach, and now it was about to just blossom again. He was taking her to the Louvre tomorrow? Her dream vacation since high school? Had he been sneaking peeks into her diary? She picke dup the moon earrings, admiring the opals changing color in the light. "Riku...you're spoiling me!" She reached into the closet, smiling at her favorite purple lace-up dress. This would be perfect for the village. Provincial looking but comfortable, and it didn't make her look like a tourist.

he chuckled. "You spoil me every day!" He countered with a smile. My pretty darling, you spoil me rotten with your smiles and your happiness and everything you do. I figure I should spoil you a little, especially on our honeymoon" he pulled a dress out of the back, light purple sundress with gold patterns going up the left side. He looked down at it. "Do you mind wearing this one tomorrow?" he asked sheepishly, shyly. "I don't want to tell you how to dress, but it's Red's wedding gift. She told me to keep it a surprise, and I think going to the louvre in it would be awesome" he looked at the dress she'd chosen for the day and grinned. It was his favorite dress of hers. "I'll get dressed in the bathroom, you can get dressed here" he offered. He didn't want to do anything until this evening, especially since they'd already made plans for the day. "You're going to love the village, and I bet they'll love you"

Sunshine grinned. "Okay, you're just being cheesy now." She swatted at him playfully. The dress he pulled out made her jaw nearly drop to the floor. The purple and gold combination glittered as it hit the light. It was like the sun was woven into the dress. Red bought that for her? It was absolutely stunning! "You just want me to be part of the gallery," she teased. After playing with the knots in the laces, and he rushed to give her changing space. Good. As he disappeared, Sunshine fought back the blush as she slid on her sundress. This was all so exciting!
FAST FORWARD TO VILLAGE
Sunshine gaped at the cobblestone path in the little village. Everything was like a storybook illustration come to life. The flowers were popping up at the signs of spring. She smelled the fresh cut lavender mixing with the honeysuckle in her braid. That scent was better than overpriced perfume.

Riku looked around at the village. Except for the age of the villagers, it was like he'd never left. The old stone buildings, the cobbled streets, the windows with different flowers in the sills, the bakery with the windows full of pastries and breads, the little hat shop over there and the tiny bookstore across the street, it was all the same since the last time he came here. People went about their daily lives and one or two who knew Riku came up and said hello either in French or choppy English and Riku smiled and responded in kind, and introduced his wife. They usually were very happy to meet her and one old woman who'd looked after him as a child patted her cheek fondly and called her daughter in law in French. It made Riku happy.

"Feeling nostalgic?" Sunshine asked her husband after they left the sweet woman who told her something in French. He was grinning from ear to ear like a kid going to Disneyland. She was flushing at constantly being introduced as his wife. On the plus side, no one was chewing her out for being a tourist. She was now Sunshine Lafeytte. Apparently, just walking in this town made her feel like a princess. Back home, she would be royalty. Well, a voodoo consort...how did voodoo politics work? Especially since Riku and Weiss were seemingly ignoring the big lineage?

He sighed and nodded. "I didn't think I'd see this place again, walk these streets. But with mom and dad in prison the house was left to me and Weiss. It's a family home. We lived here before we came to America and our ancestor gave the mossgown to the girl" He chuckled. "You could say this place is our very roots. I always wanted to share it with the one I loved, but I never thought that would actually happen" he held her hand and squeezed it gently. "I wish there was time to show you every place that means something to our family, but I'm going to settle for just taking you here and Paris right now" he grinned.

Sunshine brought a hand to Riku's face to look at her. His clean shaven face was smooth like alabaster under her touch. It had been a rough several motnsh adjusting to his parents being imprisoned. She gave him a reassuring smile. "Hey. It may be a family home, but that means you get to share it with your extended family. The past is in the past. Yeah, there are roots here, but roots lead to a flower. I'm surprised you forgot that, Mr. Voodoo King of the Garden." She gave the hand in his another squeeze. "Besides, we have years for you to show me all your traditions, just like I do."

He chuckled softly. "Love has many stems, but one flower" he said softly. "Just like family" He smiled at her. It still caught him off guard that yes, he'd be sharing his whole rest of his life with her. He could take her here and show her every place that meant something, teach her the ways of his family like she would teach him the ways of hers. It was something that filled him with awe. "Sunshine, I adore you" he said with a smile "So thank you for being wonderful"

Sunshine ducked her eyes down shyly. All of this was so new to her. The ring on her finger glinted. They had been married for almost a week now and adjusting to it all was huge. She had sold her loft in French Quarter in favor of moving in with her now husband and her sister in law. There was another reason why she sold it, but that was for another day. He said he adored her and she looked back up, sneaking in a quick peck on the lips. "Riku, I adore you too. Don't cut yourself too much slack now, okay?"

he kissed her back. "It surprises me the sun could ever love the moon" he said honestly. He just reflected her light. He wasn't as good or pure as Sunshine. He'd done things he regretted. His soul was permanently steeped in night. She was the dawn, and her eyes held light. She healed and he destroyed. How had she fallen in love with something like him? An angel had unlocked the chains of a devil, and now here they were. It was almost poetic. "Do you want to see a wishing well?"

“Because even the sun needs the moon when it’s away,” she explained. She knew where this was going. It was another self pity party. He would mull over how he wasn’t good for her because of his darkness. They had found a poster that read;
“The story of the sun loved the moon, how he died to let her breathe”.
Needless to say, it had touched them both. The topic changed to looking for an old well, and she nodded enthused.

He smiled and nodded with her. He wouldn't let himself get into a pity party on their honeymoon. But it never stopped him from wondering how he'd gotten so lucky. "Follow me" he told her and started going through narrow side streets. He knew where he was going. Eventually they came to a little courtyard, and in the center was an old well, made of stone and flowers climbed up the sides as doves cooed in the eaves of the roof over it. Riku beamed at her. "The wishing well" he said grandly. "According to legend two lovers eloped on this spot and a little spring bubbled up. So they turned it into a well" he grinned at her. "It's known for granting wishes"

Well, it was down alleyways. Sure she may have been a cop, but these still gave her some nervous memories. He wove through them like a thief, and she was holding to one hand so she wouldn’t fall behind. The winding paths and shadows disappeared. The well, like everything else, was something out of a child’s storybook. Even the origin, of eloping lovers, was romantic. She approached the bubbling water, staring into it. A few honeysuckles were lose in her braid, but she could adjust those that stayed attached.
“It’s beautiful...”
