"I've changed my mind since then," Jane felt like she had to defend.
It was mostly because of Shadow himself. Him proving to her that not all cops were like the ones that dismissed her mother's case. He cared so much for this city that it just about broke her heart. She wanted to see him happy. This guy who had given up so much for the city without them even knowing. Who dealt with so much crap that he didn't have to put up with it and yet... he did.

“I’ve noticed. You went to a cop’s wedding without a gun to your head,” Shadow pointed out.
It was something that had shown her own maturity. The Jane before would have been kicking and screaming. Probably even leaving during the wedding. No, she stuck around through the reception. He fought the blush of when he had asked her to the floor. Blame it on the wine. Yeah. He sipped from his glass. Cherry berry flavor. The most dangerous sweet wine.

"Yeah, color me surprised too," she said. "I didn't really expect to be invited."
She had been taken completely by surprise by Sunshine and Riku's invitation. She had barely spoken to Riku and she had openly yelled at Sunshine after the LaFayette incident. But with Namine and her father so excited for the wedding, she supposed she had gotten the wedding excitement too. She had even gone out to get a new dress and took Namine so they could get their nails done together. It had been a fun evening. Even with her unexpected dance with Shadow.

"Well, I'm glad you were. Otherwise I would have been sulking in the corner all night."
Sef-pitying was something Shadow was awful at doing. His cop friends were slowly shoving him out of the rut, but it didn't help much at all. He was perking up slightly from his depressive state by surrounding himself by the people who cared. Those who were surprising him had been the biggest cuts through it all. People like Jane, who when they let their guards down were people he...it was bad to think it, but he honestly liked hanging out with her. He wanted to spend more time with her, even if it was just for a the few days he was here.

"And we couldn't have that, could we?" she laughed.
Maybe that was why she was invited? So Shadow wouldn't be alone. It was hard for him since he used to like Sunshine. Now she was off getting married and hoping Shadow would be happy for her. He likely was, but it didn't mean it stung any less. Jane liked knowing she was helping him out in some way. Shadow was... one of the few cops she took exception to. He was a nice guy. She didn't want to know he was hurting. She still wasn't sure where that left her...

"Yeah. We couldn't," he murmured.
He took another sip of wine with a sigh. It was hard to keep the mask of a tough guy up around someone who clearly saw through his bullshit. The truth was, he was growing a small bit of a crush on Jane. But wording it would be hard. He couldn't just spring it on her, too, not when his clock was ticking. He swirled the wine around, trying to get whatever flavors were in there. Fancy people did it in Lieu Sanglate, so why couldn't he?
"Not bad for screw top," he remarked.

"One of my favorites," she told him.
She was far more open with Shadow than she was with anyone else. He knew things about her that even her father didn't know yet. She wasn't sure if it was the fact she was well on her way to her second glass of wine (not including the couple of shots she took before coming over to his place) or that she truly did trust him. She was going with a mix of the both but more or less the later. She really did trust him. If anything, she counted him among a few of her friends.

"Well, I'll have to bring one by if that dinner offer is still on the table," he remarked.
Well, there went the bluntness. His cheeks turned bright red the minute he had just blurted it. There went all his possible friendships with Omar if word got out about him trying to court his daughter. The strange thing was, despite Shadow being close with Omar, he realized the troll was somewhat distant from his own daughter where the homunculus was getting very small juicy detail and stayed quiet about it.

"Absolutely." she said, perhaps a bit too quickly. "Just have to knock."
After all, she did just drop by unannounced. Might as well as let Shadow do the same. Her door was always open anyways. She felt better when there were people in her house. It made her feel less alone. She supposed she had been lonely, at first, when she moved out to Bellerogue but now she had Yang, her father, Namine, Aqua and she supposed Adrien as well. She hoped that included Shadow...

"Funny. I was going to say the same thing to you, but well, you got it," he said, perhaps at the same speed.
Great, now this was becoming like something on the corny shows Sunshine made him watch. But, yet, it didn't feel corny coming from him. He had his door open to many people. Sunshine, Yang, Jim, Adrien, Ralph, and now he had it open for Jane. He was in his own skin, even if it was a skin he had fragmented memories of being in. He looked down at his smaller gloved hands.
"I'm sorry, by the way. For being a creep when I had on the Sapien rings. It was the first time I truly felt like I could flirt, you know..."

"You weren't being a creep."
She felt her face heating up. So he had been flirting after all. She let out a slow exhale. Maybe she should stop drinking. This was likely a conversation you had when you were sober anyways. She supposed it was now or never. Where did she stand with Shadow? She knew that deep down she really liked him. She wasn't going to deny it. How could she? He made it far too easy to like him. And he wouldn't take any of her crap. Despite all the hard times she gave him. He was kind and patient...
"I... didn't mind it." she said.

"Oh thank God."
He was continuing to heat up. Part of him was tempted to slip on those rings, just to remind her he was still the same person. He couldn't blame it on the booze, he only had one glass of wine. The last time he and Jane drank, she won. He had learned never challenge her. But maybe he could handle things with a human build? There was only one way to find out.
"I...still have the rings, you know."

"Yeah? You're going to keep them?" she asked.
That couldn't be a good thing, not for her anyways. She had been acting like she had been desperate for his attention. It was a little embarrassing how much his human shape had effected her. She shifted a little in her seat now. The wine was going to her head, clearly. She had to be imagining this conversation with Shadow. He didn't really flirt with her, right?

"Well, duh. I can't exactly turn down a good thing from work now can I?"
The other part was, and he hated to admit it, was he liked the human form. He was able to get attention from people in a positive way he never got as a homunculus. He had a woman buy him a drink, which had never happened. Not...No, he had been a homunculus form with Jane, too. She had treated him as an equal. He helped himself to a second glass. Maybe the booze would clear his mind.
"I mean, you're the only person who would buy a homunculus like me a drink. Heck, you were the only one that danced with one."

"Yeah," she agreed, "That'd be silly to turn down."
Shadow was drinking again. Perhaps she should too. She topped off her glass. The wine was deceptively sweet and masked it's high alcohol content well. Her head was going to start swimming if they kept drinking at this rate. Just being there in Shadow's apartment was already making her stomach do little twists in a way that had nothing to do with the spice of the food or the wine.
"I... guess... I like you," she said, blushing and refusing to look at him.
