"You make it sound like I'm drunk all the time!" she groused.
It had only been this one time. The last time they drank together she had been tipsy. Not drunk. Still, she had already made herself more 'at home' than she should have. Any sane person would have kicked her out of their house by now. She wasn't sure if it was the drink influencing Shadow or if she was just confused. She probably needed to sleep this off. Clear her head. Calm down? Either way, things were weird. She was emotional - which was never good - and drunk - which was not good in this situation.
"Shadow...?" she hesitated before saying, "Thanks for everything..."

"You're a teacher on the brink of summer time. This is the one time I will allow for drunkeness," he teased slash retorted.
He rearranged the blanket and scooted aside so she would have some room. Just because he was furry didn't mean he was the cuddly type. Hugs were the closest he could get. He had even gotten to the 'kissing knuckles' phase with Sunshine in terms of showing affection, but he didn't think Jane was ready for him to display that yet. She was a human. Well, half-troll, but a person. He shook his head. The booze was getting to him finally. He did swipe a strand of brown hair from her face, sighing in regret he couldn't much else.
"...Don't mention it. Thank you...for trusting me."
He said the last part quietly like he would be punished for saying it out loud. Jane trusted him like no one else. It made his heart clench. He would be gone soon. But he was getting attached to Jane, and letting her go was going to hurt.

"So many better excuses to get drunk." Jane said.
Like when the summer came to an end and the demons came. That sounded like a good time to break out the bottle. End of the world. End of the city? She felt herself tense up when Shadow moved some hair behind her ear. A tender gesture that was not lost on her. Her heart clenched in her chest. The alcohol in her brain egging her on to do something. Respond somehow. Her arms felt heavy as she lifted them up before pulling him in for a hug. She was trying not to let herself get all emotional, but it was hard and emotions were running rampant through her being.
"Stealing my lines, damn it," she whispered.
Because Shadow had opened up to her which in turn, opened her own defenses up. She was taken apart and rebuilt stronger with his help. And it was all so very confusing.

“Easy to do when you like someone,” he teased.
Well that was the second line had stolen from her. The hug was unexpected. He was surprised into stunned silence. Her face was pressing against his fur and it...well, it felt good. After some hesitation, Shadow returned the hug. A woman hugging him was nothing new. Sunshine had tackle hugged him countless times. He even had started hugging Yang for reassurance. Jane had joined the ranks, but it was different. After a moment, he let her go, coaxing her to comfort.
“You know, I like you too...”
Scratch that. Three lines.

"Maybe... we should talk this over when we're sober?" she suggested.
She didn't want to say or do anything she'd regret when she was drunk. With Shadow in her space like this, even though she had pulled him in for the hug first, was distracting. Shadow was distracting. She couldn't think straight around him. The booze hadn't helped. And yet, she found herself smiling. Despite her having an incredibly rough week, she felt better than she had. It was all thanks to Shadow, just listening to her vent, letting her explain herself and just being himself.
