Namine and the staff were beside themselves. Edgar, who had opened the door to the witch, had resigned, blaming himself for letting her in. The entire staff felt guilty for being unable to stop her. Since Namine was technically by blood an Agreste, she had to pick up the pieces. Adrien had a charity banquet prepared to help raise funds for places destroyed during the demon invasion. He still needed to run the fashion company. Because she was shy the competition thought they could stomp on the Agreste company but Namine was pulling in strength from somewhere she didn't know she had.
She even did a statement on live tv about how the company would continue and so would the banquet and she had the utmost faith in the police. Because she did. Yang would find Adrien and bring him back. But she still worried. The staff had been wonderful to her as she transitioned into a temporary head of house. And she was putting on a brave front. When no one was looking she went to the garden to decompress and cry.

“No I’m not here on business! Namine’s a sweet girl who needs support from a friend. Is that a crime?!”
Sunshine was shaking off everyone who was hassling to get a word in with her. Funny how in the years or so she was on the squad, her name would be tied to everyone in Bellerouge with a bad streak. Her police partner was an artificial Antichrist who ended up saving the world he was meant to destroy. She was married to a voodoo king from an infamous family. Now, she was just going to comfort a sweet girl buried in overwhelming projects. She walked into the garden, balancing the nevermore box.
“Hi.”

Namine hastily wiped at her eyes when she heard someone approaching. She couldn't let the staff worry for her more than they already were. Lance leapt to his feet, ready to growl or bark away whomever decided to interrupt Namine but he hesitated when he saw Sunshine, looking to his owner first. He was waiting for the command that would let him go over to greet their mutual friend. Namine took a deep breath, dried her eyes and smiled. Lance was such a good dog. He barely needed training at all.
"Go on..."
Lance went bounding over to Sunshine, stopping short of barreling into her but his little nub tail wagged a mile a minute.

Sunshine laughed as she was given the approving greeting. Lance was taking his job seriously, not unlike her partner. Shadow was still bed bound, but he was adamant he get back as soon as possible. She had to give him credit that he was actually listening to the dictor’s advice. The dog was bounding over happily, and the golden haired cop grinned.
“Hi Lance! Don’t think I forgot about you, too, boy.”
She rubbed the big dog on the head, fishing out a fresh baked dog treat. How could she forget the big guy?

Lance wagged his little nubby tail, beside himself in glee. A lot of his time had been spent consoling Namine through her trying times and helping her gain confidence. He gently reached out and took the offered treat that Sunshine held with the barest tips of his teeth, as not to clamp down on the woman's hands. Aqua had taught him to be gentle when he took treats saying something about how it made him a 'soft paw' until he needed to be the big tough dog he was meant to be. It helped since the house had been full of children displaced by the demon attacks. Namine still housed some of those families as they rebuilt. There wasn't exactly an umbrella insurance policy that covered demon attacks on home owner's insurance.
"Sunshine, w-what are you doing here?" Namine asked.

"I just wanted to see if you were okay," Sunshine said with earnesty.
And truth be told, she didn't want to get too involved with the case. Yang had snapped at her, and Shadow was bound to desk work, leaving her as a floating cop that got thrown into cases when they were one person short. Solving crimes that didn't involve supernatural murder was a nice change of pace, but she'd be lying if she said she didn't miss the sort of thrill of taking down a voodoo monster or crazy witch. She patted Lance affectionately, approving his gentleness.

"I'm okay," Namine said.
She was trying to put on a smile like Adrien's. One of his confident and reassuring smiles. Adrien always had that way about him to reassure others that everything would be fine. But she wasn't sure was the same as Adrien. She couldn't draw on the same strength he could and she was being worn thin. Lance, seeming to notice her deteriorating mood, padded over to her and laid at her feet.

Sunshine said nothing to the smile on Namine's face. The blonde artist was trying to pull off the infamous "I'm fine" card. It came off in many different ways from being passive aggressive to taking one too many shots down at the Bourbon. Even reassuring smiles could be a red flag when a person was going through a tough time. She had done this tactic herself way too many times. Little Happy Go Lucky was all smiles when in truth, she was terrified and upset. She set down the box. In Namine's defense, she was physically okay.

When Lance whined and laid his head on Namine's lap, her smile faltered. She sighed and her shoulders slumped. Namine knew she wasn't fooling anyone. Not Sunshine. Not Lance. Not the house staff. She thought she could put on a strong front for everyone. A heavy sigh left her lips. She knew that Sunshine was going to stay until Namine talked through things.
"I'm not okay..." she confessed. "I don't know how Adrien did things... He worked so hard."

"I know you want to finish his jobs for him, but some times that makes it more unfair." Some people were not cut to intense tasks such as the ones in Adrien's job. Besides not knowing the whereabouts of Adrien, Namine was given all his work. The poor thing was in the dark on all fronts. "How would you have done some of these things? Because, well, everyone works differently. I don't solve cases the exact way Shadow does." Her partner had always been a pusher, trying to muscle through obstacles as opposed to looking around obstacles like she did.

"Natalie has helped." Namine said. "And Aqua. The staff has been so wonderful."
She had support on all fronts. Everyone wanting to assist in some way. Some how. She appreciated the help more than she could put into words. And the silver lining was that this was pushing her to become stronger. Adrien needed her to fill his shoes because if - no when - he came back, he had a company. His staff deserved to have their jobs despite the head of house being gone. Not to mention his workers in the fashion industry. It was a lot to take in.
"I don't think I could have done this on my own. I never had to before."

Sunshine managed a smile. Well, good. The staff that had been supportive of her was one of the better parts of this debacle. Namine didn't need to be stuck being the victim of this situation. The little artist had said she wanted to do more. This was both a blessing and a curse in some way. Sure, Namine was not making money like she should have, but Sunshine, always the optimist, even in the darkest moments, could find the small filters of light in such a dark time. "Um, I brought by some stuff in case you were hungry. I'm sure they're feeding you a ton, but no one can have too many sweets."

Namine smiled. Leave it to Sunshine to fuss over everyone even after the city had fallen apart. Still, the artist appreciated it. She was so tired and it was nice to know that her friends still worried. She knew Aqua and Jane did, but those two were practically given to worry about her. She had been partly afraid that the BPD wouldn't like her anymore since she took the job with Adrien. And yet, there she was, proving those doubts wrong.
"Thank you Sunshine," she said sincerely. "Do you want to share them with me? I don't think I could eat them all."

“You know that stereotype of cops eating donuts? Well, this is going to be an upgraded version of that,” Sunshine joked.
She opened her box. The pastries were glistening in seductive sugar glazed goodness. Some fillings, be they fruit of chocolate, were peaking out. She pulled out a golden pastry flecked with lavender, filled with a pale yellow cream. Lemon and lavender had been a recipe passed to her by her husband. Some hotshot in Waco, Texas made cupcakes in the flavor, but Sunshine figured that group could translate into a stuffed scone.

Namine giggled. She peered into the box, letting Sunshine pick first. Then she picked up one that was glazed in a vanilla icing, flicked with bits of toffee and a drizzle of chocolate. She hadn't had junk food since she started working with Adrien. His staff was very serious about making sure everyone ate healthy. So this was a real treat. She took a bite of hers and relished the taste of sweets. Lance whined, knowing he wouldn't get one, but desiring what they had anyways, despite having his own treat.
"Thank you! These almost look too good to eat." Namine said.
