"If I had a nickel for any time I had that said," Sunshine snickered, looking down to pat the whining Lance. Namine had picked up the pastry she had specifically picked out for her. It had been delicate and beautiful, just like her. While patting the gentle giant, she reached for her second pastry, a flaky pastry drizzled with a red chile honey exported from New Mexico. She bit into it, humming in delight, but taking a surprised breath as the spice hit her tongue.

"But these are like art." Namine protested.
She had seen some of the wedding cakes to leave Nevermore. They had been so breathtakingly gorgeous on occasion they had spurred her own muse for art. She had drawings and drawings of beautiful brides to be and dashingly handsome grooms, surrounded by roses and pearls like the cakes. Fondant birds became doves or peacocks and swirls of airbrushed color of fondant became her backgrounds. It was part of the reason why she loved going to Nevermore so much. That and her devastating sweet tooth that demanded to be fed.

"It takes a fellow artist to respect that. Thomas did the decorating on these. He's always had a...flourishing side."
Sunshine laughed, licking her fingers from the icing. Her stepbrother took pride in so much of his work. Compared to her flowers, Thomas was able to make marzipan leaves look unbelievably real. He would spend hours with the airbrush, ensuring a cake that was meant to be gold looked like gold. She was jealous of him, to say the least. Her stressful schedule didn't allow her any time to sit back and create art from candy. The fanciest she got was making a heart shape on a beignet. Now painting and drawing, on the other hand, those were her strengths.

"How has business been?" Namine asked.
She gestured to the very delicate and very intricate sweets. They were a labor of love. Considering how donuts, despite looking like simple things, required hot oil to make and careful piping of jellied/custard insides. Let alone with the glazed toppings and goodies on the top. Namine imagined that someone burnt themselves a lot when starting out. Only through time and effort was someone able to make something like that so well. She could only imagine that because of the effort Sunshine and her family poured into the bakery, they were still doing well for themselves.

"Um, well, my family is getting a lot of crunching. So much work involving wedding cakes. Mom says if she has to cover one more fondant layer, she is going to stick someone's head in the bread mixer."
Wedding time was hell week for Nevermore. Sunshine had come in to check on her family in between cases, along with getting the treats for Namine. She had seen Thomas and John arguing over a recipe from a client. This was why they often didn't try to do commissions. Customers wanted so many crazy requests. She'd never forget pulling sugar for the lady who wanted the replica glass slippers and how much it hurt like hell. Thank god for her healing hair, otherwise her hands would have been burned for a long time.

"Weddings? Even now?"
It was just surprising to hear that weddings were taking place so shortly after the near end of the world. But Namine was happy for them. Even if it reminded her that she didn't have someone special in her life. She had her new family and her loving friends. She couldn't be happier for her friends in finding happiness of their own. Their happiness had inspired more art from her. She had drawn a picture of an injured phoenix rising from the ashes and flying high above a burned battlefield. She had drawn a black cat curled up to phoenix, looking like a mischievous little kitten that had gotten the cream. She drew pictures of Lance, in all the things he did.

"The apocalypse seemed to spark a lot of sudden proposals that got held off. Tie that with the actual weddings timed for this...ugh, it's a hot mess."
The apocalypse had been a setback for so many people. Venues were probably torn asunder. Those poor innocent cakes that went up in ashes or fell to the ground leaving it a sugar mine for ants. April weddings were always tougher to please. Spring flavors blended into summer, and then people wanted an out of season flavor thanks to the apocalypse setting off winter weddings. So couples had to suffice with no gingerbread style cakes or anything of the like.
"So, have you been working on art amid all of," she made an overabundant gesture, "this?"

"But business has to be good for you?"
With all the people who had to put off their weddings, and all the people who were doing impromptu proposals now that they had survived the worst. It was sweet and romantic. She could understand both sides of the stories. The need for a bit of happiness after all the bad things that had happened. It was their way of equaling out the scales of good and bad. But this meant more stress for Sunshine and her folks who were probably booked twice over.
"Adrien and I had been working on helping the survivors first." Namine said. "And now... I have to mind the company."

“On both fronts, yes.”
Police work had been a huge buzz. Since the apocalypse, creatures of the night had been trying to sneak into whatever crevices they could. Sunshine wasn’t just talking about vampires in that regard. She had spent time with the Spider’s Web case to support Yang as best as she could. The issue with Jeck, a replica of Riku, was being cared about by the hospital. Blood and chocolate were such a strange combination in her life, but it continued to be one of the strangest groups that dominated her life.
“I’m sure business is less dangerous here than with work on the streets.”

"Well... I do miss everyone at the office, but... Here everyone really wants me to enjoy what I draw."
She had done good work for the police the last few years. She had helped catch a number of criminals (in her own ways) by making the drawings of the cons they were chasing after. Adrien found out about her memory powers and was trying to help her figure out a way to better control them so she wouldn't harm people when she used them. Because he too had a destructive power. He could literally turn things to ash in his hands. A secret he feared would chase his friends away once they found out.

"I always liked what you drew. Not the criminal profiles, I mean. Some days, I'd look over and you were just happy drawing whatever came to mind."
The drawings were also a refreshing change from the boring charcoal and graphite sketches Namine provided the police. The drawings the petite blonde would create on her own time were filled with color and much more pleasant ideas. She hadn't said anything because mortifying Namine was the last thing she wanted to do. This was also the cop who doodled temporary tattoos on her arm even when it wasn't for undercover work.

Namine blushed. She still wasn't used to the praise over her art. Adrien gushed over everything and his lead designer who had become her mentor barely had anything to correct in her work. She did enjoy being able to draw what she wanted, but she had liked helping the police too. They had gotten her out of a bad situation. However, she couldn't spend the rest of her life in debt. There were other ways she could help - like Adrien did. She already made more working with him as a partner than she ever did for the police. She could save up and maybe throw her own gala for the police one day.
"It's... funny. I used to want to help the police so much that I'd do anything... Even if all of the police officers weren't nice."

Sunshine frowned. Poor girl. She had been given little to no respect for her talent. She remembered being nice to Namine, but were the others? She remembered Shadow being pleasant to her. But...was that it? She picked up another pastry. Compared to the pretty ones, this was a simple one. It had been puff pastry danish lined with fresh raspberries. She popped a raspberry off and chewed it before taking a bite. Warm, flaky, and all around buttery.
"What do you mean?"

Namine curled in slightly. She felt so awful about talking bad about a few of the officers but it was true. Not all of them saw her as an asset. And a few of them had given her quite thankless tasks. She once or twice found her drawings in the trash after they were done with them. Aqua always gave those officers hell to pay for slighting her. But she had come to terms with the fact that they weren't entirely good people. Just because they had a badge, it didn't mean they were automatically good people.
"Just... normal office bullying." she said.

"Which is stupid," Sunshine spat.
Her emerald green eyes started to get a small tint to them. Shadow, and even Riku, had pointed out that when Sunshine was upset, usually her eyes became a teensy bit brighter. She didn't know if it was sun magic or a quirk, but it had been a sign she was not to be trifled with. As a bully victim herself, she always hated hearing about people that got picked on. What did Namine ever do to some of the cops? Yet, she had to admit, at times a few officers had picked on her. Especially some outside of the Others Unit.
"They're just jealous because they can't draw."
