It was a beautiful day out and Namine was having her first day off in a long time. Adrien was finally back to work (though Natalie was making sure he wasn't over doing things). She had decided it was a good time to take Lance for a walk through the park. The whole 'wearing a leash' thing was more for show. Lance wouldn't stray far from her side. He was the best dog she could have ever have asked for.

Adeline had tried not to let what happened with Pitch bother her, but she couldn't help but think about it almost every day. She still couldn't get that haunted, frightened look of his out of her head. And the most frustrating part was that there was something Pitch was even more afraid of than Disparion or somebody else torturing him again: Adeline getting hurt while trying to protect him. She knew he was just looking out for her and trying to keep her safe, but shouldn't she be able to do the same for him? He'd done so much for her and kept her safe. She wanted to keep him safe too. She'd promised to get stronger so she could protect him better, and while she wasn't sure if that would really convince him, she felt like she had to try. So, book in hand, she'd headed to the park and decided to try some stuff out. Moving objects with her powers and shooting magical beams was still her go-to when it came to fighting with her magic, but it was high-time she tackled something else. Pitch's magic came in the form of black sand, and he could shape it into different weapons when fighting. Adeline wanted to see if she could do the same thing with her magic. The book she'd brought with her had pretty detailed illustrations on different weapons, and she tried forming different ones using her magic power. It was definitely an experimental process. So far, she'd managed to replicate a war-hammer and an axe, each one made out of sparkling, cracking purple magical energy. Concentrating for a moment, her magic took shape again, until it resembled a katana. She liked the feel of this one, although she noticed she was getting a few stares from other people in the park. Maybe I should have chosen a more secluded place, she thought.

Namine was almost yanked off her feet when Lance suddenly stopped. She turned to see what the fuss was about when she spotted Adeline. She smiled brightly. As if to match her mood, Lance's tail wagged. But he made no move to go bounding over to Adeline though he clearly wanted to. He wouldn't. Not without Namine giving him express permission to do so. He had become quite a good dog even in the long months when they were under attack by demons. Namine made her way over to the other young woman.
"Adeline, how are you?" she asked.

Just when Adeline was wondering if she should move to a different spot to practice her magic further, she heard a voice call her name. She turned to see that it was Namine, with her Mabari hound, Lance, beside her. Adeline hadn't actually seen the dog in person yet, though Namine had mentioned him a few times in conversation. He was certainly bigger than she'd imagined. Maybe she could take a break from spell-work and socialize a bit. She moved her hand and the sword vanished with a little pop. "Hey Namine," she said, giving her friend a smile in return. "I'm assuming this is Lance?" She gestured towards the dog.

Namine smiled. It seemed that almost every time that she ran into Adeline in the park, she had been practicing her magic. She supposed it was better than wrecking havoc at home. Lance's tail wagged when he heard his name. He was wiggling in the sheer anticipation of meeting someone new, especially someone that Namine knew. She pet the excited Mabari behind the ears, hoping to calm him since he would leap on Adeline otherwise.
"Yes, this is him. Would you like to meet him?"

Some people might have given Lance a wild berth, but he didn't seem too bad for Adeline. He looked like any other dog that was excited at the idea of meeting new people. "Sure," she replied when Namine asked if she wanted to meet him. She approached Lance carefully and held out a hand for him to sniff.

Lance looked to Namine for askance. When she nodded he eagerly stood and sniffed Adeline's hands. Being careful not to get too eager in his introduction of Namine's new friend. He sneezed once he got Adeline's scent. His tail wagged and his tongue lolled. Namine smiled. She was always surprised by how well trained Lance was. But after obedience school and a few police training sessions with Aqua, he was practically perfect. Minus his boundless energy. Namine had even taken up running with him in the mornings.
"Practicing magic again?" Namine asked.

Adeline had to admit: Once you got past Lance's size, he was kinda cute. The way he looked at Namine almost as if asking permission before sniffing her hand was adorable. She scratched him behind the ears for a moment before Namine asked if she was practicing her magic again. The reason she'd come out here in the first place came back to her, and her smile faded. "Yeah, you could...say that," she said, not sure how much she should tell. Sure, she wasn't keeping her and Pitch's romantic relationship a secret from her friends anymore. But she wasn't sure about discussing what had happened to him. Heck, she was still processing it herself.

When his ears were scratched, Lance's foot started to thump against the ground. He was clearly enjoying the attention. Namine had to bite back a laugh. Lance acted as if she didn't already spoil him at home. And she wasn't the only one. Aqua had been caught, more than once, giving him extra treats and long belly rubs. When Adrien visited, he brought specialty dog treats or dog food. No, her dog was not without wants. She was surprised that Adeline was so comfortable with a big dog. For some reason, she always struck Namine as more of a cat person.
"You always work so hard," Namine remarked. "When was the last time you had a break?"

"Believe me, I'd love one," Adeline said. "Things just...tend to keep happening, you know?" It was just one thing after another when it came to Adeline. Down time seemed to be a rare thing for her nowadays. And anytime she remembered how Pitch had been after escaping Disparion's clutches, it just made her want to push herself all the harder, even if she knew it wasn't good for her. Maybe telling Namine what happened would help her feel better? She wasn't sure about dumping all her problems on her, but maybe just venting a little could help get rid of some of the tension she was feeling. "Someone I really cared about...the whole apocalypse thing that happened a while back really messed him up. He was hurt and scared and..." Her voice trailed off. That was probably enough details for this conversation. "I just want to make sure I'm strong enough to protect him next time, so he doesn't get hurt again."

Namine placed a hand on Adeline's. "You know you aren't alone, right? You don't have to do everything on your own."
Namine had learned that after she left the police force. She had been surrounded by good people who cared for her, even without the affiliation of work. Sunshine, Aqua, Adrien, Yang, Omar. They all made sure she was okay, without asking for anything in return. Now, Namine wanted to do the same. She wanted to share the kindnesses they gave her when she needed them most. Relying on others wasn't a sign of weakness. Whatever Adeline was preparing herself for, she didn't have to go through it alone.

"He won't accept help, that's the problem," Adeline said without thinking. Her voice came out sharp, and worried. She realized how she sounded though, and didn't want Namine to think she was mad at her. "I'm sorry. It's just..." She gave a sigh. "I want to protect him, but he won't let me. He doesn't want me getting hurt. But I can't just...sit by and do nothing. He's been there for me, so many times. Now I want to be there for him." Surely Namine could understand where she was coming from. She just wanted to keep Pitch safe. Maybe if she got stronger and learned some new magic, he wouldn't worry about her getting hurt anymore.

"I know a thing or two about stubborn people," she admitted.
She was surrounded by them on a day to day basis. Omar was stubborn. He probably stood out the most in that category. Then there was Adrien. He was always pushing himself so hard in order to give back as much as he could to everyone that it was... a bit surprising. And of course Aqua, who was that loving stubborn patient type who helped Namine mend her broken heart and guide her to those who could finish the job of healing her old wounds. It seemed Adeline and her friend were as equally stubborn.

Namine sounded like she was speaking from experience when it came to stubborn people. Adeline on the other hand, well, not so much. Axel and Jenna were pretty easy-gong, and Namine was practically the opposite of stubborn. And usually, she and Pitch tended to agree on most things. This was the first time in a while that they'd majorly disagreed on something. The only other occasion had been when he'd left her so he wouldn't accidentally confess his feelings to her. It had taken a shouting match for them to finally come clean and admit how they felt about each other. Adeline doubted the same solution would work here. "Is there any way we can change their mind?" she asked.

"Mostly by... proving them wrong," Namine mused.
Like making Adrien take a break while he recovered. He was hesitant to, but after some persuading he happily went off to Yang's house. Or with Omar, it was proving to him that she was now strong enough to stand on her own. She still had moments of hesitance and fearfulness but she could not talk to people she knew well without stuttering like a fool. She didn't know what Adeline was going through, but she knew a personal topic when it reared it's head. Some things were best to let the troubled individual reach out about first than to force them.
"And by being there, no matter what."
