Adeline wasn't sure how well that would work out. Proving Pitch wrong by showing that she could protect him when he was in trouble would certainly help him see her point of view. Who knew when that would ever happen though. And who knew if he'd even let her try. But Namine also said that just being there could be enough sometimes. Adeline felt like she could definitely do that. Even if Pitch didn't want her getting hurt, she could still try to be there whenever he needed her. And if a day ever came where she needed to fight to keep him safe, she'd make sure she was ready. "I just hope being there's enough," she said. "I've never seen him like this before, Namine. I mean, I knew he wasn't invincible, but this...this is so different."

"I don't think anyone is truly invincible." Namine said.
She had seen her heroes fall. Shadow. Omar. The BPD itself. No one was capable to last forever. It was just a matter of when they fell than if. She scratched Lance behind the ear. Even her ever so capable dog hadn't been in a good way when she had come across him. Now he was growing happily and steadily getting stronger. But whatever it was that had Adeline shaken, clearly it was something important if she was practicing combat magic in the park of all places.
"What happened?" she asked.

Adeline gave a nod. She'd had to learn that the hard way. Seeing Pitch really hurt for the first time by emerald dust had shaken her to the core. Yet, on the flip side, Thrax hadn't turned out to be invincible either, even though Adeline had sort of thought of him that way for a long time. She'd been so afraid that he'd make her lose her humanity, or hurt the ones she loved. And he'd ended up falling too, by the very own people he'd once worked with no less. Namine asked what happened, and Adeline felt like she couldn't be vague about this any longer. Namine was a good friend. She deserved to get the full story. "Well...it was Pitch. During the apocalypse...Disparion took him. Tortured him really bad. He managed to escape though, and he ended up teleporting to my place." She wrapped her arms around herself. "I can't even imagine what he must have gone through. And he seemed to distrust everything around him for a little bit. It was like...he couldn't really believe that he was here, that he'd gotten away. I tried assuring him that I'd protect him if anyone ever tried to hurt him like this again, but that just scared him even more." She gave a sigh. "I just...if he trusted me, maybe he would be a little less afraid. I don't know. I wanted to help in some way. And I turned to getting stronger with magic 'cause that's what I know best."

Namine's lips slowly fell apart in an 'oh' of shock. Out of everyone in the BPD she never imagined that Pitch would be captured. Then again, she never imagined half of the things that had happened when the demons attacked to happen. Everyone had been completely out of their element. But to be tortured... It was a ghastly thought. And demons were nothing if not cruel. She shuddered as she remembered her treatment with Vanitas. While he had only hit her, every second had been agony and anxiety.
"Is... Is he seeing a doctor? He has to be hurt!"

"He's better now, than he was," Adeline explained. "He's back in the field already. He's come back from bad injuries before." She ran a hand through her hair. "And honestly, doctors are still learning a bit about how to treat demons and stuff. Thrax hurt him with emerald dust once, and they kinda didn't know what to do." That had been pretty scary. All the doctors could do was put him in someplace dark, which was better for some demons, and let Pitch's self-healing do the rest. Although his Nightmares probably didn't encourage them to experiment too much anyway. One wrong move and they probably would have attached them.

"Healed physically, but there are other types of scars." Namine said.
Lance gave a soft 'boof' as if he understood what she meant and he draped himself over her feet and flopped in the dirt. She knelt down and pet him. Yes, they both knew that physical injuries healed but mental and emotional scars weren't as easy to shake. Namine herself was in a better place than she was a few years ago. Lance was practically a new dog from when she found him. Despite knowing what Pitch had gone through, Namine didn't know how best to help him. Adeline didn't either.

Adeline let out a slow breath. "Yeah," she agreed. Pitch may seem fairly normal to everyone else, but Adeline knew he probably hadn't completely gotten over what Disparion had done. You couldn't just bounce back from something like that right away. She knew that if she mentioned protecting him like she had before, he'd probably freak out again. Heck, even Adeline herself knew how hard it was to heal from something traumatic that happened to you. When she'd first summoned Thrax and he'd made her half demon, she'd spent so long just holed up in her room, scared of herself and scared that she might hurt someone she cared about. It had taken a long time for her to come to terms with what she was.

"And how are you dealing with all this?" Namine asked.
People reacted to others being in pain in different ways. Adeline was clearly worried about Pitch. The training and the stress was a clear sign of that. Namine didn't want her to overwork herself. But what else could she do? She didn't know Pitch so she couldn't convince him to take it easy. The officer kept to himself mostly (from Namine's time in the task force). Maybe Shadow or Sunshine could convince him to take some time off to recover. So Adeline didn't have to worry as much.

"Throwing myself into this mostly." Adeline held up the book she'd been using earlier. "Pitch can fight by molding his sand or whatever into different weapons. I was gonna see if I could do the same thing with my magic." Wielding a katana made of magical energy did sound pretty cool, although Namine seemed worried about Adeline pushing herself too hard. She knew she could get like that sometimes. Heck, her drive to push herself to be the best witch ever and master every spell that came her way was what had lead her to summoning Thrax in the first place. She didn't want to fall back into old habits. "And venting to you, I guess," she said with a little laugh. But she did appreciate Namine listening to all this. Most of her love-life discussions tended to be with Axel, or sometimes Jenna. But Namine still had advice to give, even if she didn't have a significant other herself. "Remind me to listen to your love woes once you find someone," she added, trying to lighten the mood a little.

"I suppose... I've never done anything like that with magic before." Namine admitted.
However, was also reluctant to use her powers. Too afraid she would do irreparable damage to someone's mind if she began tampering with things. But she also could have helped Shadow. He had asked but her own fears stopped her from acting. Maybe if she had, they could have avoided the whole demon invasion. Shadow would have had time to prepare.
"O-Oh! Um... I don't think... Well no one..." she stammered. "I don't think that's going to happen."

Namine instantly got flustered at the mention of her having love problems one day, and Adeline gave a little laugh. It was a little amusing. Still, Namine didn't seem to have much hope that she'd find someone. Adeline hoped that wouldn't be the case. Namine was one of the nicest people she knew. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a girlfriend. "Hey, never say never," she encouraged. "You never know."

Namine shook her head. She doubted anyone would look twice at a little wallflower like her. Besides, she was used to it. Everyone she knew was in love or had been in love. She was happy for them. She always was. But it only reminded her that she was alone. A weight against her side seemed to follow her trail of thoughts. Her hand went down to Lance's head. She supposed mostly alone. Lance was her companion. Loyal and true no matter what now. Her friends also supplied her with the affection she never had through childhood.
"I don't think..." she said before shaking her head. "How did we get on this?"

It looked like Namine wanted to change the topic, and Adeline figured she might as well let this go, for now. She did have to admit though, she did feel a little bit better than she had when she'd first gotten to the park. "Well, I guess you've always got this little guy here," she said, scratching under Lance's chin. "Anything new with him?"

Namine sighed in relief. Her love life, or lack thereof wasn't an easy topic and she was glad that Adeline let it go.
"He's been terrorizing Adrien's house." Namine said. "Adrien's more of a... cat person?"
At one point she swore she saw her half brother hissing at the dog when he had bounded in and slobbered all over him. It had been a little amusing. It took Yang to calm him down and encouraging the 'slobbering monster from hell' to go find Namine in the kitchens. But at the same time, she had also caught Adrien curled up asleep on the couch in his office with Lance at his feet and Adrien's hand on his head. So, maybe it was more of an act than he let on. Either way her brother was confusing.

Adeline had to chuckle at that. The idea of Lance upsetting the perfect look of Adrien's house sounded kind of funny. "Sounds like he livened the place up a bit," she laughed. She'd heard Yang mention once or twice how the place could seem a little intimidating sometimes, especially back when Adrien's dad was still in charge of the house. At least things seemed a little different now.
