"I'm sure you had some attitude issues, too, give and take." Sunshine was no child psychologist, but she had seen the generation after her tended to gather a bit of a change, especially when they were preteens. Yang's kids appeared to have some of that, especially poor Louie. The kid had been through heck and back, but time and time again, Yang had been there to help him out.

"True, there was that," Yang agreed. Some kids had been tough to convince to stay with her, at least for a little bit. Their motto had pretty much been "I don't need no help from nobody." In a way, Yang had been like that too, but her excuse had always been that since she was older and know how to fight, she could take care of herself. Any kid she ended up with didn't have the same capabilities. "I guess any work I do with troubled kids from now on will be through a case or something," she said. She had been brought in once or twice when a kid had been found at a crime scene and refused to budge from their hiding spot. It usually took quite a bit of coaxing and reassurance from Yang that they cops were here to help and they weren't going to get hurt. It was rewarding though, finally being able to get through to them and show that they were safe.

Already, Sunshine was getting anxious. If street kids with hostile parents had attitude issues, what exactly did that mean for her child when they reached the double digits? Would they also get the snarkiness. She could already picture a child with intense blue eyes, or green, staring coldly at parents for not completing a math assignment or saying they weren't ready to trust them with a secret. Part of her wanted to ask how Yang dealt with it, but that would come maybe a bit down the line. Sunshine shrugged as Yang dismissed not working with any troubled kids. "I don't know, there's always those talks with people in the juvie halls. You're like a success story to them. Maybe they'll listen to you."

"Giving pep talks as part of my job...that might be interesting to get into," Yang said as she sipped her latte thoughtfully. Maybe trying to get through to some kids before they ended up on the streets like she did was a good preventive measure. Figuring out who'd committed a crime in the first place was an important part of a cop's job, but stopping them from even happening in the first place was worthwhile too. And getting to kids while they were young was the best time to try and get them to change. Sure, adults were capable of turning things around too, but it was a lot harder, like teaching an old dog new tricks. "You think we could get enough funding to issue something like that en masse?" she asked. "Getting through to kids before they decide to become criminals, I mean? Most people seem to think making more prisons or hiring more cops is the only solution to any crime problem." She'd heard Weiss talk about the same thing more than once when talking about what she'd want to do as Voodoo Queen. Her whole platform was built on making sure kids and adults alike had access to resources that they needed, so they wouldn't have to turn to crime to get them. It could really change Bellerouge around, if she could get enough people to support the idea.

"They'd listen to you. If they knew better. I've seen your 'discplines' to some criminals," she teased. No one never wanted to get onto Yang;s bad sides. Not if they wanted to go the hospital for flamed butts, or an intense fiery punch in the face. But she knew Yang would never use for fire for abuse. Heck, hitting a child was a huge offense. "I mean voting is coming up. There is a petition to get more work for us out there." The Others Unit had been bound by incredibly strict laws. Now that the town had seen heck and back, it was only a matter of time for people to wake up and see that the Others Unit did have its point besides be the "minority" cops.

Yang gave a little laugh. True, she did have a reputation for hitting hard when it came to taking down criminals or getting information out of them. And if she couldn't make them talk, threatening to have Pitch be their interrogator instead was sometimes enough to make them spill the beans. Sunshine mentioned a petition had been going around to give the Others Unit more work and that caught her attention. "You think it could actually get through?" she asked. The Others Unit did have the stigma of being the "weirdo" cops, and the fact that quite a few of them had been criminals before-hand didn't impress some of Bellerouge's citizens. Maybe things could start changing and people could actually see the good that they did. Or, at the very least, tolerate their presence.

"Well, we did save everyone's asses during the apocalypse. They kind of owe everyone on the Others Unit something." Yes, there could a public apology made out by a politician, but she knew what good that would do. Some people had understandable reasons for hating demons and others that were out on the streets fighting the 'evils' of the world. She touched her hair, still unsure of what just happened. The sun power was there, so the good news was Gothel hadn't used any weird shampoos or gave her a creepy haircut like she did as a baby or whatever. But something still felt off, and it was uneasy using her healing her powers.

"Yeah, we should be appreciated more for that. We could at least a get a discount at some of the stores around here as thanks," Yang joked with a laugh. Still, she did used to feel bad that she hadn't been able to do much to help Shadow during the whole apocalypse thing. He'd gone through a lot and she couldn't help him. But if it ever got her down, she just needed to remember that she had taken out quite a few monsters and kept people safe. And that was part of her job. That had to count for something.

"Hey, a couple of shops on Magnolia Road have started giving us the mad respect we deserve," Sunshine pointed out. The bargains that her family had gotten in several locations had been huge. The dent her family owed in bills was starting to dwindle. "There was even that nice memorial for the professor when his confessional went live." The whole world stood still the day they had cracked the professor's secret journal, revealing the news that Shadow's creator had given them; the way to stop the devil, which, well, worked.

True, there was that. Maybe things were looking up when it came to the Others Unit getting more respect around here. It would certainly make things a bit easier while member dealt with their own problems. And it sounded like Sunshine had quite a few to grapple with. Yang downed the rest of her latte before saying "I should probably get back into the fray. I've got patrol duty soon." She glanced back at Sunshine before adding "If you spot any fishy looking vampires or something, you call me, okay? I don't want them messing with you again."

Yang downed the rest of the latte in one fell swoop. Sunshine had to be impressed by her ability to handle hard caffeine like a pro. One swift move would have made her spaz for a bit before settling down. Ironic that a girl who worked at a cafe was somewhat affected by coffee. Yang said her goodbyes and the pregnant blonde picked up the cup and tossed it into the bin. "This time, I'll make doubly sure to keep my eyes peeled. Thanks, Yang." ((end thread))
