Break time at Nevermore gave Sunshine the chance to just explore Riverfront. Part of her was tempted to knock on Shadow's door and ask if he wanted to hang out, but she knew him. He would be too stubborn to even get away from crime files. Files he was deliberately checking out of courtrooms with the help of their lawyer ally, Elsa. Who knew how long he'd be there. She sat at a bench and pulled out her sketchpad. A game of tic tac toe that she played with Thomas was in the corner of the page that greeted her. Taking the pen, Sunshine began sketching silly expressions. An invite out was out of the question, but a fun "thinking of you" letter was worth something.

Namine hadn't exactly felt like herself lately. After what happened with Omar at the precinct she was left feeling rather down. Someone she thought was good, was going around and getting involved with bar fights. So she went to Riverfront, hoping a walk would get her out of her little funk. She didn't exactly know where she was heading, but she stopped when she saw a long train of hair. A girl in a pink dress was sitting at the water's edge and drawing, much like Namine did. Namine tried to back away so she didn't bother the other girl, but she stumbled and knocked over a trash can.

Sunshine just finished a sketch of an arrangement of sunflowers she had finished. It wouldn't be too overtly girlie, which was nice. This was her friend she was trying to cheer up. Just as she was about to continue, she heard a loud crash. A trash can had toppled over, next to a girl who was so wide eyed; she looked like she had seen a ghost. Sunshine's cop instincts took over as she set down her sketch pad and checked the area. No sign of a demon or doppelgänger...or vampire. The scene was safe, so she walked over. "Are you okay?"

"Y-Yes!" Namine squeaked out rather quickly. "I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Her hands twisted in the strap of her over the shoulder bag. She couldn't meet Sunshine's gaze and she almost expected to be lectured (or much worse) for making so much noise. It was a fear she had yet to break herself from, even after she had gone to college. She was hunched, as if trying to make herself smaller, head down, with her gaze at her feet.

The poor little blonde girl. It was only an accident that made the trash can fall, then. No weird creatures involved. The other artistic blonde was looking at the shrinking one with sympathy. "Hey, hey, it's okay. There's no crime in knocking over a trash can by accident."

Namine tentatively looked up at Sunshine. She bit her lip before attempting a small, shy smile. It didn't seem like the other blonde was angry with her, but her grip on her bag didn't lessen. She was still trying to work herself down from her first response of flee. "I'm sorry," she mumbled, since she was probably making a bigger deal of this than she should. But she just froze up.

"Don't worry about it," Sunshine answered reassuringly. The blonde girl was someone that didn't seem like the type to cause trouble intetionally. Her shyness would have resulted in someone taking advantage of her. The blue and green eyes of each girl met, and Sunshine could see the fear lit up in them. Was that how she looked when she was held captive by the vampires? Wait, let's not scare the girl away with a creepy fact. "I've knocked over stuff, too. When I work at the bakery, I almost always crash into my brother when we're baking. Though," she chuckled, "it made us realize chocolate baguettes were actually delicious."

Namine's lips twitched with the ghost of a smile. She looked down again, trying not to show that she was imagining what a mess it must have made and the hilarious scene that probably took place in the bakery. "D-Do you work at Nevermore?" Namine asked. The tiny blonde was a frequent visitor. She made it a point to try all of the sweets that Nevermore offered.

Sunshine nodded with enthusiasm, her smile getting bigger. The other blonde girl was smiling much more timidly, but at least it was a smile. Talking about her family business was one of the many things that made her genuinely happy. "Yep! My stepdad owns it. I work there when the BPD gives my partner and I time off. We,..." her face fell, remembering he harsh dismissal from the chief of police. The jerk couldn't even tell them in person, instead using a passive-aggressive note. "...oh, I'll worry about cop stuff later," she fanned the air.

Namine's eyes widened in surprise. So she worked for the BPD too? So she was with a co-worker then. It made her relax completely. She trusted the officers of the BPD sincerely. They had saved her after all just a few years ago. But because Namine was only called in when they needed her, it also explained why she had not met the woman with the extremely long hair.
"O-Oh, um, my name is Namine," she said after realizing she had not introduced herself. "I-I work for the BPD too..."

The blonde girl immediately relaxed at the mention of the BPD. Which was interesting because cops were either given the cold shoulder or a quizzical look. Especially members of the Others Unit. The girl introduced herself as Namine. "That's a pretty name," Sunshine remarked. "My name's Sunshine."

"It's n-nice to meet you," Namine said. It was nice to know she was with someone 'safe'. Especially after the week she had with strange rock stars walking her home before picking bar fights the next day. Namine couldn't handle things that were radically dangerous or outside of her normally planned schedule, not unless she felt comfortable. The BPD made her feel comfortable. It was the badge that Sunshine wore that made Namine relax.

Namine's guard was one hundred percent down at this point. Was it because she was a cop? Was it the attitude. "Yeah, same to you," Sunshine answered, deciding not to over-analyze the situation. "Um...so..." where could she take the conversation from here. It could be anything besides the La Llorona killer. She silently prayed that Namine would get the hint.

"You draw too?" Namine asked a little surprised. She had gestured to the abandoned sketchpad lying on the bench where Sunshine had been sitting before Namine tripped over herself in her haste. She gave Sunshine a small smile, wondering if it was okay to ask about her sketch pad. Namine was always anxious about talking about her work, aside from clients and working with her co-workers. She liked drawing happier things because it otherwise she was limited to her dark and gruesome drawings of victims and recreations of the criminals who did it.

"Uh..." Sunshine smiled sheepishly. "A little, I guess. I prefer painting, but I do sketch and draw on occasion." She looked at Namine's small smile directed at her. The girl was quietly asking is she could look at her drawings. Picking up the pad, Sunshine handed it over, "my friend Shadow is in a weird funk, so I thought drawing a thinking of you card would...lighten his mood up a little." He had hinted about going to the cemetery when she last talked to him, or rather, when the whole department talked. Coming from a depressing place to get some happiness would be worth something.
