Sunshine was washing her hands, trying so hard to get the image out of her head. It had all happened so quickly. She didn't think the reson she became a cop would ever line with her family business, until today. The gruesomeness was still haunting her.
She was just waiting tables like she normally would, but just one sound, a sound she never wanted to hear again, had triggered her into something intense. An intense that resulted in her stabbing a customer with a knife and proving a fact that not many people knew;
Vampires exploded when in contact with metal.
Adn by explosion, she meant explosion Body swelling, eyes bulging, the vampire letting out something like a dog toy before bursting into smoking chunks of meat. The dark chunks had gone flying throughout the patio. Customers were screaming in terror, horrified at the witness of an unusual vampire murder. But that was no oridinary vampire Sunshine had killed. That was a member of the gang that had kept her and Shadow hostage.
As she left the kitchen, untying her apron, her mother ran to her side. Wendy Seddon wiped a stray blood smear off her daughter's cheek, settling her down. "I'll get you your usual. And," with a smile, she slipped the newest pastry in the bakery to Sunshine. Blondies; the gooey-buttery-choclate laced bars she always craved when in a fix. As Wendy rushed off, Sunshine, nibbled her blondie, trying to reoriente herself.

If Yang was honest with herself, she would admit that she came to this place a lot. In just the past few weeks, she been here with Omar, Namime, and Anna, all on different occasions. But, Yang had some extra money this month, and after putting some away for emergencies, she figured she and her kids should treat themselves. They had left earlier to get ice cream and possibly a new toy or two. Yang, however, had decided to do the usual: get some coffee and a sweat treat. She walked through the front door, running a hand through her blonde hair. She spotted Sunshine not too far away, nibbling on a blondie. While not totally best buds with the woman, they knew each other pretty well since Yang frequented this place pretty often. "Hello my fellow blonde!" she greeted with a smile.

Fellow blondie? Only one woman had a hair that rivaled Sunshine's own gold tresses. There was even a time when, after seeing a picture when looking through files, that she thought this girl, about a year younger than her, was Shadow's friend Maria. But, no, Maria was dead, and this girl was the very definition of the word 'alive'. Sunshine smiled, at least as best as she could smile while still getting over the trauma of vampire explosions, and waved back. "If it isn't my doppleganger," she teased with another bite. "These are just fresh out of the oven; better get them while they're still hot." She licked a bit of chocolate off of her cheek.

Sunshine greeted her in return, and even showed off the blondies she had in her hand. Yang was just about to order some, but she noticed that something with Sunshine seemed a bit...off. Usually, Sunshine was at nearly 100% optimism. Today, she seemed a bit lower, like at a 75. "You doing okay?" she asked. "You seem a bit stressed or something." Maybe it was the police work. That La Llorona killer was still at large. No doubt that put a lot of stress on BPD members.

Sunshine flipped a lock over her shoulder. Between the La Llorona Killer and the whole event of the afternoon, she really did have a lot on her plate. Her weak smile fell to a thoughtful look. A look that not even a cup of hazelnut creamer could cheer up. "A lot happened," she answered. "The Others Unit got kicked off the La Llorona case. Shadow was pissed, and well, he wasn't the only one." She was picking at her blondie now, watching the crumbs rain from her fingers. "And you're lucky you missed the carnage. I..." She paused. She had never told anyone about what had happened up at the mansion, how the vampires gave her and Shadow a reasonable dose of fear. "...I made a vampire explode." She sighed. Well, there, she got that out.

"Wait, what?" The BPD wasn't working the La Llorona case anymore? "Why? Who's in charge of it now?" Yang asked. There had to be somebody investigating it. It wasn't like they were just going to leave this case alone, right? This guy was killing kids, for God's sake! However, that wasn't the only thing on Sunshine's mind. Apparently, she had made a vampire explode. Literally. "Oh man. That doesn't sound pretty," Yang said. Even with her attitude, she tried to avoid killing people if at all possible. It was a rough thing to do, and your victim exploding probably didn't make it any easier.

Sunshine nodded glumly. "The only thing we're allowed to do is an autopsy since we technically found a body." And there was, at least, a very faint ray of hope. If Anna could decipher any trace of magic in the body of poor Johnny, then the Others Unit would be forced to come back onto the squad. And at the mention of Yang calling the vam[ire explosion not pretty, the color in her face drained. The flashbacks still were happening, and this time, they included the sounds. The sounds of the helium-esque giggle that had trggered Sunshine into running forward - it was the goblin giggle from one of the vampires who tormented her and Shadow - and the similar balloon popping noise he made when he died. "Bloodiest balloon ever," she remarked.

Yang gritted her teeth. "Ugh, this is so stupid," she muttered. "I mean, the less people they have investigating this, the more time it will take to get solved," she complained. "What kind of bozos are in charge of this case now?" While she didn't have much faith in the police as a whole, there were at least a few people she trusted, like Sunshine and Duncan. If they weren't on this case anymore, then Yang didn't have much faith in it being solved. At the mention of an autopsy, Yang looked up. "Is Anna, by chance, working on that?" she asked. "I met her a while back. She seems...awfully chipper, for someone who goes through dead bodies." Heck, Anna was probably the only person perkier than Sunshine that Yang knew. But, she enjoyed her company. Plus, she had treated her to beignets. That always won Yang over.

Sunshine flipped her hair over her shoulder. She hadn't met any of the cops who weren't part of her unit, but she was certain they would be up shit creek without a paddle. "Bozos is a very good word for them. They're people who are stuck like they were three year ago." She took a bite of blondie to get the yuckiness out of her mouth. "And yeah, Anna managed to weasel her way into doing the autopsy, sneaky girl." She swallowed her bite. "Shadow went to the graveyard to pay homage to the lost kids, too. I think out of all of us, he's been hit the hardest. He won't say why, but," she sighed, knowing her partner confided a lot to her, and to tell it to Yang was an interesting tightrope.

Sunshine seemed to agree that these guys were bozos, but it didn't look like she or anyone else could do anything about it. Yang was glad to hear that Anna was working on the bodies, though. As odd as the girl was, she was good at her job. Or, so Yang assumed. She glanced up when Sunshine mentioned Shadow, and how he was taking this case pretty hard. "That's the black hedgehog guy, right?" she asked. She had seen Sunshine hanging out with him a few times, but hadn't actually talked to the guy herself. He seemed awfully serious.

"Mhm. He's my partner at the station. I'm the only one who actually manages to get him to smile." She took a thoughtful bite. A Seddon family member, she didn't get a glimpse of who, stopped by to deliver Sunshine's coffee delivery, a cup with hazelnut cream, with a clight clink. "He's been on the force for ten years, and he, well," she giggled, remembering the little girl they rescued, "he's, in lack of better words, prickly, but he's really good around kids. A little girl we know keeps calling him Mr. Prickly."

A tough guy that softened up around kids? Sounded like a good guy to Yang. Some people thought of her as the same. She could be pretty hot-headed at times, but when she was around her kids, she turned into this warm, loving girl. "Sounds like a neat guy," she said. She wasn't sure what Shadow would think of the little operation she had going on, but he at least sounded nice.

Sunshine smiled, for once letting a little bit of joy show through her trauma. Neat guy was a very subtle way of putting it. Shadow had saved her life, he helped her not to be afraid of the world when everything had changed, he was there to support her when she was in a bad mood be it at the office or off duty. Funny how being captured and held and tormented by vampires brought her and an Other so close together. "You two would get along probably. He appreciates people who can take care of themselves, and extra bonuses if you aren't afraid to reach out."

"Hmm, maybe I'll have to drop by and see him sometime," Yang said. Although, now that she thought about it, maybe stopping by wherever he lived would be better. Walking right into a police station was like a lamb walking right into the slaughterhouse, in her case. Cops might not know she was living on the streets at first glance, but they might figure it out if she was there a lot. Better not to expose herself too much, despite the fact that she seemed to have a growing number of friends that were part of the BPD. But only a few of them knew what she was up to, and they didn't really mind, so that was fine by her.

Drop by? Did that mean Yang hung out near his apartment? Sunshine decided to let the topci go. She didn't know much about the blonde who came into her family's business and sat down from time to time. If anything, Yang seemed like the kind who could hold a secret about vampires getting blown to smithereens and triggering the trauma of an incident earlier. "Careful, he might confuse you for me," Sunshine joked.
