Jane bit her lip. She may or may not have been hovering beside Yang the moment they walked in. Her false bravado was gone. Now she was just afraid. Afraid of finding out the truth, afraid of being disappointed, afraid of being wrong. There were so many reasons for her stomach to curl like live snakes twisting and turning. She wasn't as hungry as she had been. A drink was certainly out of the question in this establishment since they were carded at the door and given blaring orange wrist bands that labeled them as minors.
"It's so packed," Jane found herself telling Yang.

Yang had to admit, Jane looked more nervous than excited by this point. She had talked a decent amount on the way here, but now, she was kind of quiet. Maybe she was just anxious about meeting her idol. Fans could get like that sometimes. At least, that was what Yang figured. She glanced back out over the pub, which already had plenty of people. And it looked like more were on the way. "Relax, we'll be fine," she said to Jane with a grin. "Come on, let's get some food. Then we can grab a table." She led Jane to the bar, feeling lucky that there was no line in front of it yet. There were a couple of menus in a pile. After handing Jane one and glancing at another, Yang knew what she wanted to order. "Can I have the spicy cheddar burger and a blueberry lemonade? Oh, and could you put in one of those little umbrellas?" Something spicy and something sweet would be enough to fill her up.

Omar stretched, getting ready for his nightly show. One day, he’d be able to get out of bars and clubs and really search for his daughter out of the city, but for now he was pretty content to do what he loved every night. After all, he had eternity to look for Jane. When the time came Omar practically skipped up the steps to the stage and took the mic, testing it to make sure it worked properly. “Hello Bourbon Graisse!” He shouted into the microphone. “You lot ready for some good noise?!” The resulting cheer made him grin and he cupped one large ear. “Can’t hear ya in my ancient age. Try again younglings!” There was some laughter and a louder cheer. After his daily intro, Omar started a song he had written close after his Cindy had died, which had become a fan favorite.
“ Bitter defeat, yeah I wasn't so clever Just give me one dance before I lose you forever
When we die, we will be lovers in heaven Uncharted world, brave and new On the starlit stage, we'll be cloud dancing in heaven I'll kiss and taste all of you When we die, we will be lovers in heaven Join me in death my old love On the starlit stage, we'll be cloud dancing in heaven I kneel for you from above ”

Jane had been about to order something light to eat when the lights on the stage flickered to life. The words died on her tongue and withered. Jane usually prided herself on being logical and a reasonable person. She felt a wave of shock hit her system harder than any thing she had ever felt before in her life. Her eyes were glued to the stage. It felt like the very breath had been knocked out of her and she felt dizzy. She even placed her hand on the bar top to keep herself balanced. It was him. It was her father. He had shouted something but it seemed that her shock took her longer to process what he said. Because by the time she was refocused, the crowd was roaring again.
She wanted to shout to him, say she was there but there were so many people. It was so crowded. His band had apparently become quite popular. Besides, Yang promised she would get Jane into the back for a private audience, even if it was under false impressions. She hoped she didn't like like her jaw was about to hit the floor or Yang would never let it go.

Yang's head shot up when she heard Omar speak into the microphone. She cheered along with everybody else, as she always did. She had to show her support, after all. Soon enough, the Bilge Rats started playing and Yang's foot started tapping up and down with the beat. Beside her, Jane looked pretty star-struck. Yang had to grin. "It's different seeing him in person, huh?" she said. A band was cool and all on a CD or on the Internet, but seeing them in the flesh was a whole different experience.

Omar finished up the song and grinned at the crowd. They looked pretty hyped. He looked over through the crowd and saw Yang near some girl who looked vaguely familiar. Maybe she had come to a concert before? Whatever, he had a show to do, he would worry about it later. Omar pointed in Yan's general direction. "A very special young friend of mine is here tonight so we're going to shake things up a bit and play her favorite song!" The crowd cheered again and Omar gave the signal to his band, who had luckily practiced I Like it Heavy by Halestorm and so weren't caught off guard. They began the song, with Omar grinning as he sang. He poured on full sex appeal and someone in the crowd shrieked in appreciation.

Jane could only nod along with Yang. Words seemed to fail her. And her heart all but stopped when Omar pointed at them. Did he recognize her? She held her breath until the song started. Her heart sank. It wasn't one he used to sing to her or her brother. It wasn't one her mother used to croon to them while they were on the cusps of sleep. He didn't remember her. The song had probably been a dedication to Yang, not her. She wasn't sure if she should have expected that or not. She took a seat at the bar to give her aching knees a much needed break. Maybe coming here hadn't been a good idea. She had a good life before she decided to go through a pre-mid-life crisis and decided she needed to find answers.
"Yeah," she said softly. "He's something else..."

Yang could tell when Omar spotted her in the crowd. Her bright yellow hair tended to give her away at things like these. She bounced on her feet when Omar started playing I Like It Heavy. She gave a whistle of appreciation and couldn't help but dance along. She was oblivious to what Jane was feeling and failed to notice the slightly crest-fallen look on her face. At the moment, she just wanted her new friend to have some fun. "Come on Jane, get jiggy with it!" she said happily, hoping to get her to dance a little bit.

Omar finished the song and the rest of his set proceeded as normal. He sang a song dedicated to Cindy, a slow song with piano, and the crowd quieted to be respectful. Most of the fans and patrons knew at least a little about how he had lost his family during the war, and were always very kind when he performed Cindy's song. Then there was a song about drunken pirates and the crowd sang along. And then he sang his song. The one that was filled with every negative, painful emotion he had. It was powerful. During this song he always blocked everything out and gave it his all. It was always the second to last song he sang in the set.

"I uh, don't get jiggy," Jane said a little uncertainly.
One song led to another. This one was slower, something that tickled something at the back of her mind. Had she heard this one before? She looked up at Omar, trying to gauge his facial expressions but it was hard to do since there was a great amount of distance between them and she wasn't exactly brave enough to shove her way to the front of the stage. He sounded so sad.

Jane politely declined Yang's offer. Yang just gave a shrug. "Suit yourself," she said. Maybe Jane was still nervous about meeting Omar. Her friend hardly took her eyes off of him during every song. Not all of them were the head-banging type, though. Some were sad. Omar had written quite a few songs based on what had happened to him during the war. All Yang knew was what he had lost his family, although she had never asked for details. Prying into backstories wasn't her thing, since she hated it when people did the same to her. But, despite the painful subject, Omar still sounded pretty dang good. Yang figured he only had one or two more songs left, then he would be done. At that point, she would make her move and introduce Jane to him. She was sure her new friend would be more upbeat once she saw how nice Omar was and what-not.

Omar finished with the song and started into the last song, which was always a cover of "Closing time" to let people know it was time for them to start finishing their drinks. He made it a hard-rock cover and when he was done waved at the crowd. "Alright everybody you've been absolutely fan freaking tastic. Have a wonderful rest of your night and enjoy your drinks!" He put the mic back into the stand and hopped off the staged, nodding to his band members and rolling his neck to pop it. "You guys were awesome" He complimented his band. "Let's pack everything up and call it a night"

Closing time, already? She and Yang had just got there! Jane shifted a little anxiously. Now came the hard part. Yang was going to try to introduce her to Omar. The woman could feel her heart racing a mile a minute in her chest. She was scared. If she went down this rabbit hole, there would be no changing the outcome. Either he remembered her and the family he once had, or he didn't. He either wanted her in his life or he didn't. She clasped her hands to her knees to hide the shaking from Yang.

Omar soon ended with the final song, and Yang joined in cheering along with everybody else to show they had enjoyed the concert. The burger and drink Yang had ordered earlier was ready, but she felt she could delay getting it just for a little while, at least until Jane had been introduced to Omar. Speaking of which, when Yang turned to look at her, she seemed awfully nervous, like the throwing up type of nervous. "Hey, relax girl. You'll be fine," Yang said reassuringly. "You're overthinking this, believe me. Everything will be okay." She gave a smile as she took Jane's hand. "Come on, let's go." She threaded her way through the crowd, pulling Jane along with her as they made their way backstage, where Omar and the rest of his band were already packing up their equipment. "Yo, Omar!" she called, waving with her free hand.

Omar looked around as Yang called him and grinned. He waved back and waited for her and the girl she was pulling along to come over. "Yo, Yang! Nice to see you" He high-fived her and looked curiously at the girl next to her. He could swear he knew her from somewhere but he couldn't place her. "I'm sorry, do I know you?" he finally asked.
