As for melting hearts, Jane could already feel hers going out to the little band of misfit children. All outcasts, all alone, until Yang stepped in. Yang didn't have to do anything for those kids, certainly not going out of her way to take care of them, make sure they were happy and healthy. She had no obligation to help them at all. Jane felt even more pressed to do something to relieve some of the burden of child care off of Yang's shoulders. She shouldn't have to take care of four children on her own. She was barely any older than Jane herself and already playing quasi-mother to four children. It just blew Jane's mind.
"Yang, you're amazing," she breathed.

Yang couldn't help but smile at the praise. It always helped kind of validate what she was doing. These kids had such unhappy lives before they met her. Now, here they were, content as can be. It helped push away any judgments people had about her raising these kids herself, or any doubts she had. She couldn't resist poking fun at the praise, though. "Oh yes, do go on, bask me with compliments," she said, striking a pose before laughing.

"Miss Hero, please allow this humble sidekick to provide some assistance." Jane laughed.
She made a grand show of a half now and a sly smile up at Yang. Yang deserved Jane's help. She would probably have it for the rest of her life, considering how trolls had long memories and an even longer lifespan. The two giggling girls were just another good reason to help out. She didn't know what else she could do to assist Yang, help relax the young woman, otherwise she would grow up too fast but she already did that too fast too.
"So this faint heart can bask in your gloriousness!" She added.

Yang continued to laugh when Jane joined in on the theatrics, but she could see that the offer to help was genuine. It seemed that she had inherited Omar's kind heart. He was always reminding Yang that if she never needed help, she could come to him. Of course, Yang's pride often got in the way of that. She had the habit of not asking for help unless she had no other choice. "Well, I think we'll be good for a while," she said. "Although I may hit you guys up to treat these little guys to some ice cream sometime this summer. It's starting to get hot out."

"I can do ice cream." Jane said.
She would certainly try to do more than just treat the small family unit to ice cream. However, it was a start. She was still a stranger to Yang after all. She still had a few things to do to clean the air between them. She did feel bad for leading Yang on, to make her think she was just some super obsessive fan girl of the Bilge Rats. She hadn't been entirely honest with Yang when the first met but she figured it was time to clear the air between them. Set things right.
"Hey, I wanted to apologize," Jane added sheepishly. "About not telling you that Omar was my dad. I didn't think you'd believe me."

"Awesome. The kids will be happy about that, believe me," Yang said. It wasn't every day they could treat themselves to something. However, the conversation took a slightly more serious turn as Jane apologized for not telling Yang that Omar was her father when they first met. But Yang waved the matter aside. "Oh come on, there's no need to apologize for that," she said. "I mean, I found out eventually. That's gotta count for something," She gave a smile, but then figured she might as well address the matter a little more seriously, just to put Jane at ease. "Look, everyone's got secrets, and there's some they're not willing to share until it's the right time. So, I don't blame you for doing that. I mean, we were kind of strangers to each other at the time."

Jane nodded. She knew how excited she and Mikey got when they went out for ice cream with their parents when they were kids. Yang had twice the number of mouths to feed, so that was twice the excitement and twice the sugar buzz. However, Jane remembered the small trips that she and her family took. They helped her get through the last ten years with the foster families she bounced from. It was a dim memory, long ago, but she wasn't exactly hard pressed to say no to Yang and her adorable little adoptees. The little bundles of energy would probably crash hard after a long day of play and a sweet treat at the end of the night.
"Yeah, well I thought it'd be easier if you thought I was a fan," Jane said with a sheepish smile. "No hard feelings?"

"Nah, we're cool," Yang said, giving another smile. She wasn't about to have hard feelings over something like that. Besides, everything worked out anyway. She knew the truth and Jane and Omar got reunited. That was what was important.

"Oh good!" Jane laughed. "I was worried."
She had a good feeling she and Yang would get along well. It would have been a real shame if Jane's little white lie had come between them. Jane could really see a good friend in Yang. Not to mention, it had been hard to just act like a fan and keep her cool when she got to the bar. At one point she thought she was going to faint. It was Yang's encouragement that got her through all of that.
"You were right though. I worried for nothing," she pointed out.

"Well, it's understandable," Yang said. "I mean, I probably would have felt the same way in your shoes." Seeking out a father who thought you had been dead for the past couple of years was bound to be nerve-wracking. It was understandable why Jane would want to keep that a secret from Yang at first.

Jane looked out over the park. She had been beyond nervous. She had been terrified of what would happen to her and to whatever relationship she had with her father. She was kind of jealous of the kids under Yang's careful watch. They didn't seem to understand just how lucky they were that they had someone take them in.
"Guess we can laugh about it now," she said. "It is kind of funny now that we think about it."

Yang gave a little chuckle. "You wanna know something really funny? When I thought you were just a fangirl, I was already half-shipping you with Omar. I was gonna get you guys hooked up and everything. When I found out you two were related, I felt gross for, like, two seconds." Of course, she had been happy afterwards, but for a brief moment, her first thought had been about how she had shipped Omar with his daughter.

"Hey, how were you supposed to know?" Jane asked.
She was trying to hold back a laugh. It was a little weird but she and her father looked to be about the same age now, despite the fact that her father was much older than she was. She was finally coming into her troll heritage and slowing down in the aging process. Her behavior probably didn't help, the jittery awestruck way she looked at him and the way she insisted she had to meet him.
"I'm free for about any other guy," she told Yang, "But do you really thing dad is going to let me start dating this soon after we just met?"

Yang was glad to see that Jane didn't have any hard feelings about that. She even seemed to think it was humorous. Although she did bring up the point of what Omar would think if she started dating someone right after they just reunited. "Hmm, good point," Yang acknowledged. "We have to make sure he's not like those stereotypical dads who wait for their daughter's date with a shotgun in his hands." Yang wasn't sure if Omar even had a gun, but he could probably slip into the "overprotective dad" role in a heartbeat.

"Heaven forbid!" Jane laughed.
She could just see him trying to intimidate her future dates, if and when she met someone worth going out with. Perhaps even more so since he had just gotten her back and he wouldn't want to share her with anyone else for that matter. Though shot gun or no, she was pretty certain he could be intimidating without a weapon, since he gave absolutely no cares in the world if he got into trouble with the BPD. However, it was nice to know that he was the type to keep her safe. He was probably equally protective of Yang but had far less control over the unruly blonde than he did with Jane.
"Don't tell me he's given anyone you were seeing the shovel talk?" Jane pleaded with a smile.
