"Nah, not really," Yang replied. "He knows I can take care of myself. And I haven't really gone for any serious relationships anyway. I'm not sure if I'm anyone's ideal romantic partner." Kids who lived on the streets weren't exactly seen as desirable. But Yang wasn't too concerned about it. Besides, her kids were her main focus. She didn't need a boyfriend or a girlfriend as long as she had them.

Jane playfully nudged Yang. She cast the blonde a smile. Yang didn't seem to have a lot of self confidence in a romantic light. Maybe it was the fact she was a single mother of four. The kids were half her age too. But that was only half of the reason that Jane thought Yang was so cool. She was such a kind heart and obviously a tough independent type who didn't care what anyone thought of her.
"If I can meet someone then so can you," Jane said. "But right now... I'm taking things one at a time. It's still a lot to take in, moving back here. The park hasn't changed much."

"'Atta girl. That's the way to do it," Yang said, giving Jane a playful punch. Who needed boyfriends or girlfriends when they had other stuff to do, like catch up with long-lost fathers and look after kids? She glanced up at Jane's comment about the park. "Did you used to come here a lot?" she asked.

Jane laughed. When Yang wasn't looking she rubbed her arm where she was punched, wincing a little. Seemed that Yang was stronger than she let on. It was quite surprising, but not a bad thing. Yang could certainly fight off anyone who tried to take advantage of her or her kids. The more she talked the more Jane realized she liked Yang.
"Yeah, we used to. It's been a long time though," she said.

The park certainly seemed to hit Jane with nostalgia. It interested Yang, thinking about Omar being a dad back in the day. He didn't exactly show his tender side often, even though Yang knew it was there. She wasn't sure if that was just part of his personality or if he wanted to keep the "cool rockstar" image up as much as possible. Either way, it intrigued Yang. Maybe she would get to see that side of him more often, now that Jane was here. "Yeah, it's a pretty cool place," she commented, running a hand through her hair.

"Dad used to bring his guitar," Jane said. "And he'd play songs for me and my brother... He never really went anywhere without music."
She smiled, thinking of how he would play songs for them, for their little adventures of pretend and make believe, how he'd push them on the swings and laugh when their mom scolded him for keeping them out so late. She really missed that. She was far too old for games of make believe and certainly too old to get him to push her on the swings, especially since they looked about the same age.
"Does dad help you with your kids?"

Yang had to smile at the mental image of that. Slow, quiet songs weren't really Omar's style when performing in front of others, so it was interesting to picture it. Maybe she'd have to ask him to sing one for her sometime. "Sometimes," she replied. "Usually if money's tight and one of the kids really need something. But I'm pretty good at getting money in when I need it." Depending on how desperate she was, Yang's ways of bringing in money could range from slightly shady to totally illegal. She tried not to break the law too much, but she always liked to herself that she had to do what she had to do to keep her kids safe.

Yang's independence could also be seen as stubbornness. Her 'I-can-do-it-on-my-own' attitude was both commendable and frustrating. She didn't have to do these things on her own, not as long as Jane and Omar were around, but the half-troll realized she would probably have to start proving that she was here to stay before making any long term promises. she didn't know how Yang got her money. In a city like this, she was better off not knowing. The less she knew the less could be used against the people she cared about.
"Just... be careful, okay?" she asked and decided to change the subject. "So, ice cream right? Should I just send you home with a few pints and the fixings for ice cream sundaes?"

"Will do," Yang promised. Reassuring her friends was something she had had to do a lot over the years. They were always worried about her. But Yang felt like she had to do this on her own. She coudln't rely on people's charity forever. Jane soon changed the topic back to ice cream though, and Yang liked her idea. "Sounds good to me," she said.

Yang's reassurance didn't do much, but it was probably the best Jane was getting from the stubborn blonde. So young and already had the world on her shoulders. Yang could really use someone to help her lighten up, take things a little slower, stop and smell the flowers! Jane decided she could do just that. No one knew what it was like to miss out on something. Her entire childhood was just that. No way was she going to let someone even younger than her miss out on the finer things in life because of her circumstances. She put on a smile and playfully nudged Yang.
"Yeah! Ice cream and... pizza! We should get you and the kids a big pizza to go with it." Jane decided. "Gotta end the day right with pizza and ice cream."

"Aw, Jane, you're spoiling us," Yang said with a laugh. She was touched by her generosity though, even if she had a hard time accepting help from others. "Yeah, I think we can add pizza to that," she said. "That's Louie's favorite food, next to beignets. I swear, we could eat a ton of those together if we felt like it."

"It's what friends are for, right?" Jane replied with a smile.
She wanted to be friends with Yang. The food was certainly not Jane's attempt at bribing Yang. She really hoped that Yang didn't think that, but she did have a lot to make up for with first impressions, at least in her own mind, plus, she wanted to do it. It's not like she had anyone else to take care of. She made more than enough money to support herself, but with no one else to spend things on, she still had a bit of a surplus. Maybe she should get a pet. Like a cat.
"We can get beignets next time," Jane said.

"Beignets are always good," Yang said. "I've got a friend who works at the coffeehouse and bakery. I'll get her to make some for us. She's super good at it." From the first time Yang had met Sunshine, she knew that she was practically born to bake sweet stuff. Maybe it was because Sunshine was so sweet herself. Of course, she was also a member of the BPD, but Yang felt like baking sweets was where her true talent lay.

"Is it that coffee shop I've heard about? Neverwhere? Never something or another," Jane said.
She hadn't exactly gotten time to peruse the city. She was more or less goal oriented and now that she had accomplished said goal, in quite an astonishing record as a matter of fact, she had time to do what she wanted since she wasn't leaving the city any time soon. She wanted to stay there with her father and new friends.
"Is it good?" she asked.

"Nevermore," Yang corrected. "And yeah, it's super good. If I ever have any extra cash, that's where I usually end up spending it. It's not too bad of place to meet people either." Technically, the place was how she and Sunshine had become friends. And she had even met Namine there.
