"Anywhere else I should go?" Jane asked. "You do know more than I do."
Jane was still realizing how much the city had changed in ten years. More Others walked the street for sure. Humans seemed a little more comfortable with those who were different and those who were gifted. Not to mention shops that used to be there ten years ago weren't there ten years later. Jane vaguely remembered an old candy store she and her brother used to frequent, which was no longer there and the place where her mom used to pick up their clothes was now a tobacco shop. It was a little jarring but Jane was up for exploring all over again to relearn the city she loved.

"Well, the Riverfront is a nice place to hang out," Yang said. "There's this pretty bridge that goes over the Antoinette River. And the French Quarter pretty much has a shop for almost anything you can imagine. The place is always hopping at night, but it's almost complete chaos during Mardi Gras. We'll have to go together once it rolls around." People all over the country celebrated Mardi Gras in their own way, but nobody did it quite like Bellerouge. Sure, New Orleans was the most popular destination for the holiday, but New Orleans didn't have firebreathers that actually breathed fire or parade floats that actually floated. Bellerouge celebrated Mardi Gras with a supernatural twist, and Yang liked it that way.

"I'd like that." Jane said, not even trying to hide the sincerity of her voice.
There were so many things to do, to learn and experience. It was going to be quite the adventure and she was more than happy to have Yang with her. She smiled brightly. Absolutely nothing could kill her mood. Not the time difference, not her lost childhood with her father, she was there now and that's all that really mattered. She would drive herself crazy with what ifs. No point in focusing on what could have been.
"I don't even know where to start!" She said.

Jane seemed to like the idea of going to Mardi Gras in the future. That made Yang happy. It seemed like Jane was more than ready to get back into the swing of things with this city. Although she did admit that she had no idea where to start. "Eh, you've got plenty of time to see stuff in this city. It'll work itself out," she assured her. Jane practically had all the time in the world, especially since she was half-troll. She was probably going to live for a long time.

"Let's start with dinner," Jane said. "Mind introducing me to your kids?"
She would step back if Yang didn't want her around her kids. Jane wasn't sure how protective Yang was about the little darlings running around the playground, laughing and shrieking as they chased one another. She also didn't want to step on Yang's toes in regard to their care, but the half-troll she was already fond of the trio.

"Oh, sure." In the heat of the moment, Yang had almost forgotten that Penny and Jenny were nearby. But, she soon spotted them not too far away, chasing each other around a tree. "Hey girls, come here for a sec!" she called, waving them over. That was enough to get the girls over, who looked a little red in the face from all the running around. But they still had smiles on their faces.
"What is it, Yang?" Jenny asked, her blue eyes curious as she looked at Jane.
"I wanna introduce you to someone," Yang said. "You remember Omar, my rockstar troll friend, right?"
"Uh huh," Jenny replied. Penny also gave a nod. She remembered Omar very clearly. She and Cody had been found by him first, before he had taken them over to Yang.
"Well, this is his daughter, Jane," Yang said, gesturing to the brunette beside her. "She's a new friend of mine."
Jenny and Penny looked at Jane for a second before Penny said "You look as old as him, though."
"Penny, trolls are immortal, remember?" Jenny reminded her. "There's probably a big age gap between them."
"Oh, yeah." Penny looked back at Jane before asking "How old are you?" She knew Omar was pretty old. She wondered if Jane was the same.

"Hello there," Jane said.
The girls were much cuter up close. They were sweet, a little tentative and cautious. Jane smiled back. She was normally far more affectionate but the kids had a rough life. She didn't want to spook them with a stranger being overly nice. But it was interesting how they knew her father. A story for another time perhaps, maybe she would ask her dad himself. Learn more about the person who had missed so much in her life. It made her laugh a little to hear him referred to as the rock star troll. Ten years ago she never would have imagined it, but her dad must have really thrown himself headlong into his music after he lost his family.
"Well, I'm nineteen." Jane said. "But my dad's much older than that."

"Whoa, nineteen," Penny said in amazement. "That's even older than Yang!"
Yang chuckled a little at that. She was glad to see Jane so taken with the kids. They were awfully cute, but there was a little fight in them. They did live on the streets, after all. They had seen stuff kids shouldn't be seeing. But, Yang was determined to make sure they got all the love and warmth they had been missing from their lives.
"Man, Omar as a dad. It sounds kinda weird," Jenny commented, scrunching up her nose. She had seen the guy only a handful of times, and she couldn't exactly picture him being a father.
"Hey, Omar's nice," Penny said. "He was really nice to me and Cody when he found us." She and her brother had been all alone before Omar had spotted them. After that, they had stayed at his place for a little while before heading over to Yang's. It was thanks to him that they were even with her in the first place.

"Old!" Jane cried. "That's not very nice!"
But then she laughed and stuck her tongue out at the girls. They really were cute. Jane could already tell how much love and attention these girls got from the blonde next to her. It was how she should have been raised. It was good to see at least someone had a loving caregiver and the family unit they needed. She folded her arms across her chest, pretending to huff, feigning a hurt air from what the two girls had said. Old. It was almost laughable. She wasn't that old yet. Not like anyone would be able to tell that for much longer.
"I guess you don't want to hang out with me and get some pizza or something since I'm so old after all."

Jenny and Penny's face instantly lit up when Jane mentioned the word "pizza." It was nearly universally loved by children, and they were no exception.
"Ooo, ooo, I want some!" Penny said excitedly hopping up and down.
"Can we get pepperonis on it?" Jenny asked. "Those are my favorite."
"You bet," Yang replied with a smile.

Jane smiled. With smiles like those looking up at her there was no way she could say no. If she spent much more time around these kids, they would probably have her wrapped around their little fingers too. She glanced over at Yang. The kids were too cute for their own good. The kids go their pizza, she would find out what local places they thought were good and maybe she would like them too. Anything for the sake of exploring her new city.
"Okay, I guess we can do pizza," Jane said. "Do you girls want to pick the pizza place?"

"Oh, let's go to that pizza place on Magnolia Road!" Jenny said eagerly. "What's it called? Luigi's...Gianni's..."
"Tony's," Yang corrected. "Tony's Pizza."
"Yeah, that's the one," Jenny said. "They've got the best pizzas. And the biggest ones. Louie and Cody keep saying they're gonna do their Mega Pizza Challenge. I don't know if they can beat it, though. I mean, I saw some big guys try to do it and they couldn't even get halfway through it."
"Yang could do it," Penny said, smiling. "She could eat a whole cow if she wanted."
"I'm not about to attempt that," Yang said, laughing.

"Let's go then!" Jane said. "We can grab Louie and Cody on the way and all of us can try the Mega Pizza Challenge together."
She may not have known what the 'Mega Pizza Challenge' was, but it could safely be assumed that large quantities of pizza would be eaten. She had no qualms against that. She enjoyed pizza almost as much as the kids did. However, there would probably be stomach aches to ensue afterwords. It sounded wonderful all the same.
"C'mon Yang, where's your sense of adventure?"

Yang had to laugh at Jane's teasing. "I don't know if they'll let six of us do it at once. Kind of gives an unfair advantage," she said. "But I have eaten a whole regular one by myself. Once."
"Ugh, that sounds a little nasty," Jenny said. "I would have puked."
"I did avoid pizza for three months after that," Yang acknowledged. She stood up, tossing her hair behind her shoulder. "But we can talk about it on our way to pick up the boys. No doubt once they hear the word 'pizza' they'll make a bee-line for Tony's."

"You'll have to lead the way," Jane said. "I'm still learning where everything is."
She did make a face when Yang mentioned eating an entire pizza solo once. The thought made the half-troll feel a little green. It sounded like a little too much food. Yang had probably felt very uncomfortable after eating that much, even if Tony's food was good. It would have been cause for what Jane had dubbed a food coma, where someone didn't even want to move because they were so full. Let's hope no one would make themselves sick by eating too much.
