"I-I" Aqua stammered, slightly taken back by the fact before she cleared her throat. "We're only allowed to do that with extenuating circumstances and as the ultimate reward."
The reward for doing something good. It probably done without the Seddon family's knowledge as rewards were typically for those who acted without thinking of what they would get from helping or doing something. It was also slightly difficult for those people as they typically had to learn to control their powers on their own. It certainly proved what kind of people her family were. Aqua herself had never attempted such a feat of magic, mostly because it would tire her beyond belief and because no one had ever warned that right before.
"It's become such a part of you that I wouldn't have been able to tell it was Seelie Magic if you hadn't told me."

"Well, it is a pretty long line of Seddons," Sunshine shrugged. The family tree had its roots all the way in England. Wendy had moved from Britain to America in hopes of living a safer life. She...in a way, got her wish. "It's not as powerful as the first Seddon, my great-great-great-great-great grandmother." Oh, boy, that story was as old as dirt. And there were times when Sunshine felt like she couldn't give the story justice. when she told it.
"What exactly do you mean by ultimate reward?" Elsa asked Aqua with curiosity.

Aqua shifted a little in her seat. She hoped they didn't find it weird that faeries did these things. Typically the Unseelie faeries were the ones better known. They stole children, kidnapped wives and cast bad luck spells like it was going out of style. Everyone remembered that Unseelies were bad. They were dangerous. No one tended to remember that Seelies were the ones keeping the balance.
"Faeries have a code of law to follow. We have to reward people for doing good things," she said. "Especially if it's at great risk to themselves or just out of their way and they don't expect a reward for their actions. Saving someone is pretty much a sure fire way to get a faery to grant any request, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. Normally it's like good luck for a day or helping you find your true love. That sort of thing."

Elsa and Sunshine both nodded. That made sense. Seelies were known for their kindness, the extremes were what had been lesser known. To learn that literally lives were at a stake was a difficult pill to swallow, but perhaps Aqua understood the rules.
"Is that why you joined the force?" Sunshine asked. "I mean that falls right into putting your life out for the greater good,"

"Not really. I mean most faeries pick low risk jobs." Aqua said. "It's uh, well, my parents were killed in a drunk driving incident. The guy didn't get caught for years. I just... Wanted to make a difference."
She cleared her throat. Her gaze drifted to the table. Open. She promised her partner she would stop hiding behind barriers and emotional guards. It certainly wasn't easy to talk about. But it was really the reason she became a cop. She didn't want people to wait and agonize over s conviction or even wait for the guy to be caught. Aqua wanted to help people suffer as little as possible when dealing with the people who had wronged them.
"But I guess that's the Unseelie from my dad's side coming through." She said a little sheepishly.

"Oh...Aqua..." Sunshine's eyes widened...well, wider than they already were. Death by intoxicated driving wasn't a common way to go in Bellerouge. In Baton Rouge or New Orleans, that would have been a different circumstance. Especially hearing that the death had been innocent faeries. She would have asked, but past police business was a delicate matter. Shadow had taught her that past missions weren't to be brought up unless they tied to a current case. And as of now, she and Shadow were out of the loop on the big drug cartel Pitch was investigating, and wanted to stay that way as much as possible. "That's..."
"The Unseelie side wouldn't feel anything," Elsa pointed out. "You felt remorse. You chose a path with less...anger. And here you are, sitting amongst humans and Others alike, two of whom are glad to be your friends."

"It was a long time ago," Aqua assured Sunshine upon her distress. "I was just a kid. Barely remember it."
A lie, but one she believed would help soothe Sunshine a little. It was allowed, her conscious told her. It was a white lie, a good lie, one meant to spare Sunshine more pain. She shouldn't have brought it up. Aqua had moved past her parents' deaths. She missed them dearly. She didn't know any child that wouldn't miss their parents after something like that. She even still visited their graves, but the loss didn't hurt as much as when she was a little girl. It wasn't a matter of anger. It was s punishing the wrong doers that was more Unseelie. Aqua's father had been a judge. He ruled harshly in his court. But his rulings fit the crimes. Most Seelie faeries did jobs that helped people like health care or law. Aqua was more prone to chase the wrong doers to prevent more victims.
"But that's enough about me. What were you talking about before I interrupted?" she asked.

Sunshine's face turned bright red again. On the one hand, she was grateful that Aqua had changed the topic of something so grim. She always hated going back onto a murder case without any focus. Her positive attitude was something else that kept her sun powers in check. But that heat was flowing to her face. How could she just tell Aqua what she and Elsa had been gossping about like women in the beauty shops? She opened her mouth, "I...well, we were talking...and I...um..."
"She has a crush on your partner." Blunt, to the point, but still compassionate. Elsa had beaten Sunshine to it, and as the blonde detective pounded her head against the table, the lawyer patted her comfortingly.

"Wait... Riku? You have a crush on Riku?" Aqua asked.
She paused, leaned back in her seat and tried to think it over. Riku would be nice to Sunshine, gentle and patient. Sundhine would be understanding of his schedule, and he of hers. Sunshine would be sweet and affectionate. Something Riku probably needed after his family cut ties with him. Aqua could see the two of them being good for each other if they really did end up together. She smiled, and placed a light comforting hand on Sunshine's shoulder. She shouldn't beat herself up for it. Aqua might have sworn off of falling for her partner but that didn't mean Sunshine couldn't fall for the guy. But this begged the question of whether Riku liked her back as much.
"So when did this happen?" she asked, more directed to Elsa since Sunshine seemed a little tongue tied.

"It's, um..." Subshine's grin was becoming more Cheshire Cat like. Her cheeks weren't as red as they had been prior, but the color still remained. She was twisting her hair, avoiding eye contact with the Seelie, "I've had a crush on him for a while. Since he joined the force. Cheesy 'love at first sight' bullshit.."
Elsa shook her head. A huge part of her was glad Shadow wasn't around. He had angrily muttered something about a burglar hitting on his partner when they returned from the museum heist, which had given the lawyer an eyebrow arch. Was it possible the detective was jealous? She decided not to read too deeply into it. "I think she was also sparing your feelings, seeing as how you're his partner." Elsa was trying to help, but she felt a pang of guilt for creating a love...polygon.

"It's not cheesy if it's - What? Spare my feelings? No." Aqua said after Elsa added in. She had already fallen for her partner once. She was never ever going to do it again. Her heart wouldn't he able to take it if she did. "There's nothing between me or Riku. So if that's what you're worried about..."
She bit the inside of her cheek and looked away. The pang that hit her felt like she couldn't breathe. Regardless of her own past mistakes, she was happy for Sunshine. Happy that someone else was falling in love and finding their own happiness. So her smile returned, if a little lessened. She was a seelie faery after all. It did her heart good to see wonderful things happening to those around her. She wanted to believe that Sunshine was getting her just deserts because she had been through a lot before becoming an officer. The cases were often difficult and work was just as hard. Someone to help take the edge off, was good.
"If that's what you're worried about then don't! You should try to get to know Riku! And see if he feels the same way." Aqua said. "He's a really sweet guy."

The two women said the same thing. "Oh." Really, it said a lot. Sympathy for if Aqua had supposedly lost someone, understanding of the situation coming together, and just realizing if they continued the conversation any further, it would just become awkward.
"Um..." Elsa twiddled her hands. Cliched topic changers were something she tended to avoid.
Sunshine sighed, all stress coming out. Well, that ball was dropped. Time to turn it around, "So...what do you usually do when you're off the clock?"

"Ah, not a lot recently," Aqua said. "I was working on a case off the clock. It's uh, in someone else's hands right now."
She smiled a little uncertainly. No one really know about how she worked on Terra's disappearance. None of the other officers seemed to care or their case loads were so heavy they couldn't give time for an ex-officer who left. She hired out Ralph to take the case off her hands so she could get her life back. She had to let go of Terra. It only took Riku threatening to get a new partner to make her realize she had been so stuck in the past.
"Actually, I was thinking of getting out of town my next day off. Going to the forest or something. Getting in some flight time." she said.

"Is Ralph Lacour working on it?" Elsa asked. The only person who assisted the Others Unit willingly was him. He may have left the force, but he hadn't severed ties, which made her glad. She could still trust him. They hardly spoke, but he seemed like a good person. "He's one of the better P.I.'s"
"He and Shadow are close friends," Sunshine chimed in. "Probably the only other person I've seen who makes him smile."
Elsa shook her head with a snicker. "Honestly, if anyone makes your, in lack of better words, prickly partner smile, it's a good sign."
"So...flying in the Everglades?" Sunshine returned the focus to Aqua. "Not a bad thing."

"Well, yeah," Aqua said. "It's a bit of a personal case."
She smiled. She still didn't want to talk about Terra. She had already made things uncomfortable once by bringing up how her parents died. No point in saying her ex boyfriend had gone missing too. It just wasn't something you brought up in light conversation. Travel plans were better. She was going to get out of town. Clear her head. She just had to request some time off and make sure Riku would be taken care of while she was out.
"I'll fly myself." she said. "Airplanes and cars aren't exactly fey friendly, if you know what I mean. I had to pay for my own special car to use for patrol."
