It was break time for the officers. Sunshine and Elsa, who has wrapped up an interrogation, were sitting at one of the tables with their lunches spread out. Shadow had gone off on a coffee run, which for him would be easy but would take a bit of time despite his speed.
"I can't believe you aren't attached," Elsa shook her head. "Your optimism is magnetic."
Sunshine turned pink. "I know, but every time I try to talk to someone...I...I just freeze up. No offense,"
Elsa smiled and held up a hand, "no offense taken."

Aqua sighed as she headed over to the lunch area With Riku out for the day with a doctor's appointment, she had mostly been catching up on paperwork. The chief was less than likely to send her out on patrol without her new partner. She didn't have anything particularly special to eat. Leftovers from the night before. On her days off she cooked enough for an entire week's worth of food. That way, she just had to reheat and go. She smiled wearily when she saw Elsa and Rapunzel. She seated herself at the table next to theirs. She was still a bit too meek to join them but she did give the two women a small wave.

"Rachel Lily Seddon," Elsa shook her fork at Sunshine's face. Flecks of goat cheese from her salad went flying off, and the blonde had to shield her turkey club, on leftover bread from Nevermore of course, with her hands. The lawyer had every right to use Sunshine's real name = the only other people who did were family and close friends - to illustrate her argument. "You'll grow p to be those ladies who knit seventy feet scarves if you don't get your butt in gear."
Sunshine groaned at both her full name being used and Elsa's point. "You sound like Mom!" Before she coudl retaliate, she saw a flash of blue hair. Oh, yay, Aqua was in time for lunch. She returned the wave to the Seelie, gesturing to the empty chair. "We have an extra seat if you want."

Aqua had spared a glance over to their table to see Elsa threatening Sunshine with a fork. She wasn't sure whether to laugh or ask if everything was okay. The scene looked rather comical from either stance. Her smile became a little nervous when Sunshine invited her over to the table. She glanced between the two women. They were obviously arguing about something or another, but it seemed friendly, despite the threatening fork.
"I suppose..." she said. "As long as no one tries to end me with cutlery."

"The only thing you'll be hit by is salad," Elsa laughed. She set the fork down, smiling at the Seelie cup. Their last meeting had been rushed due to time. Now, she could finally get to know this Seelie cop much better. "Has the job been easier since we last spoke?"
Sunshine sniffed something in the air. Whatever it was, the seasoning was on par. "Okay, who paired the basil with lemon pepper? Because that is genius."

"I don't know. Salad is pretty intimidating," Aqua mused.
But she moved her lunch things over to their table, joining them at the empty seat. But then Sunshine picked up on the scent of lemon, pepper and basil. The faery was surprised by Sunshine's ability to discern those scents, but then again, her family made a living cooking. Or rather they made a living baking. Aqua glanced between the three meals they had laid out between them. She would have thought for sure the smell would have mingled or at least distracted from one another.
"You can tell that? Just from smell?" Aqua asked with a hint of a smile.

Sunshine beamed. Well, when she beamed her green eyes got happier and her smile bigger. "Yep. John taught me how to pick up smells when he taught me how to bake."
"Her stepfather," Elsa explained to Aqua while the cop used a first name basis.

"That must have been really nice," Aqua said.
She barely remembered the things her parents taught her. She had been too young when they passed away for her to pick anything up of substantial value. A small part of her was jealous but at the same time, she was glad that Sunshine had what she didn't. Even if it was in the form of a step-family. But the Seddon family were pretty much the one family the police force would always go to bat for. One of their own basically and cops protected their own.
"I stop by the bakery almost every morning." she said. "I'm trying to convert my new partner too. He likes the coffee."

"Mom says that a Seelie has become a regular," Sunshine remarked. "I was hoping that it was you." But there had been something else she wanted to say. Wendy had mentioned Aqua, but nothing about Riku. Sunshine's heart pounded in her ears thinking about Aqua's quiet partner. She had wanted to talk to him, but every time she mustered the courage, it faltered. She just took an unusually large bite in her sandwich to prevent her from saying anything else.
"It's great that you've been coming in," Elsa chimed in. "Have you found a usual order? The Seddons are excellent at getting the BPD officers their usual in two minutes flat."

"It's hard to miss a Faery. Most of them don't even live in the city." She said.
Not to mention her bright blue hair naturally made her stand out like a sore thumb. It ruled out undercover work for her. She stood out too much. She could always use a glamour to make herself look even more natural but it took enough energy to make ears and eyes look normal. She couldn't focus all of her energy in her appearance. But she didn't mind becoming a regular customer at Nevermore. She would just have to be a little more mindful of what she got.
"That hard to choose." Aqua said. "But the peppermint hot chocolate did become a favorite of mine this winter. But the peach tea is quite refreshing..."

"Well, get it while you can," Sunshibe warned. Oh, the curse of seasonal items. The minute people fell in love, the time had come to replace them. The s'more bars were dwindling in the display case, soon to replaced with pumpkin Madeleines. "We're about to start our flavors."
Elsa looked at Sunshine. Usually, she was super protective of announcing her family's plans. But, welcome was the flavors besides peach and lemon. "Any idea what to expect?"
"Elsa!" Sunshine fake fell. "How dare you?!"

"You're killing me," Aqua lamented. "Have you ever considered at least selling loose leaf version of your teas?"
It wasn't all that bad. It would make her try something else. Maybe she would try the lavender tea next. Or maybe a smoothie while they were still around. Oh so many wonderful treats, so little time. Not to mention the fact Aqua had to be able to keep in shape. Good thing she flew to and from work. Nevermore did was going to kill her for her sweet tooth. It would be a happy, sugary death, but still, it was almost as bad as the stereotype all cops liked donuts.
"Yes, Elsa, you should have probably started with a bribe first. She might not be a crooked cop, but she could always be a dirty baker."
It was more or less a reference to the flour Sunshine likely used when baking. How the long tresses of the woman's hair remained clean were beyond even the faery with all of her magic, who kept her hair short for necessity and because of convenience. She smiled at Sunshine to show she meant not harm and she was just teasing.

Sunshine stuck out her tongue playfully. Sure, it was somewhat childish, but how else was she to respond to teasing? She wasn't like Shadow who would react with an eye roll or a sarcastic retort.
Elsa closed the plastic lid on her salad. The only remnants were crumbled bits of feta and flecks of lettuce. When she did, a small piece of turkey hanging in Sumshine's hair caught her eye. She pointed, clearing her throat.
The blonde cop got the hint. "Oh." She clenched her hair, and started singing. It was the song everyone associated with her, "You Are my Sunshine". Her hair got brighter, becoming almost neon. The turkey fluttered out, and her hair shrank to waist length, the glow dying down.

Aqua blinked in surprise. Well, that was certainly one way to keep your hair clean and tangle free. And here she had to comb hers. It seemed like Sunshine and Elsa knew each other well, based on the way they interacted and the way neither of them seemed surprised by the fact they were both gifted humans. Sunshine with her magic glowing hair and Elsa with her ice powers. It was quite fascinating really, to run into so many gifted humans nowadays.
"Neat trick," she said.

"Hereditary power," Sunshine explained. Talking about her solar powered healing was something she was surprised didn't end up in a book. A long line of people who gained healing of the sun from a flower planted by a Seelie. "Everyone in the Seddon bloodline has it. Mom says it was because my distant ancestor saved a Seelie and in return, gave them a flower that healed and.." She paused. What would Aqua think of that story being a Seelie herself?
