Namine had to satisfy her sweet tooth. Nevermore was like an addiction, a sweet, tasty one that didn't have too many adverse side effects except for her having to mind how she burned off those extra calories and making sure she got a drink that went along with her treat perfectly. This time, she had an earl grey tea with a cinnamon scone. Perfection, especially since it was still hot and the cinnamon was just perfect. She didn't know how the Seddon family did it but she was glad they did. It was a slow day, probably because it was past the usual dinner hours but this place was too good to pass up on her way home.
She perked up when she heard the front door bell jingle. It was always interesting to see who walked into the shop. Lots of people stopped in and Namine had a habit of drawing them on occasion. The busy business man who wanted his black coffee yesterday. The frazzled mother toting too many children for her to keep track of and her late evening latte to tide her over until the children's bedtime. The loving couple who were more interested in feeding each other pieces of their cake than the cake itself, sneaking kisses in between bites. The weary emergency service worker who would nod in her direction before getting their usual orders because they all had 'usual orders' in a coffee shop. She wondered what sort of category this person would fall into.

Adeline had made good on her determination earlier and had checked out several books relating to anything Pitch might have told her earlier. Calming techniques, demon information, how to deal with stress, any book of that sort was stuffed into her tote bag. And since she happened to pass by the coffeehouse on the way home, she figured she might as well get started on her reading there. What better way to get through a book than with a mocha and a scone by her side? The bell jingled above her head as she entered the shop. As she adjusted the strap on her shoulder, she noticed her bag was starting to tear a bit on the bottom. She sighed. This was what she got for stuffing so many books into it. "Oh no you don't," she muttered. With a simple point of her finger, the hole stitched itself back up until it looked like it had never been there at all. Adeline gave a little smile. Her magic was awfully handy sometimes.

Namine couldn't stop the soft "oh" of surprise that left her lips. Young teenage witch so it seemed. The magic was useful, unlike Namine's. Though, to be fair, Namine had never been allowed a teacher and she was too afraid of her powers to do anything with it. She wasn't bold like the officers at the ball. She had ran and hid first chance she got. It only took another injured party-goer to usher her out the door for Namine to get over her more mouse-like tendencies.

It took Adeline a moment to notice that she had an audience. She looked up to see that a young woman had been watching her. No doubt she found her magic cool. Most people did. At least, until they could see the dangerous stuff that magic could do. Adeline shook the thought out of her head before it could get more depressing. She wasn't her to be all angsty and moody. She was here to buckle down and get reading. Although, maybe it wouldn't hurt to talk to the woman, at least for a little bit. She felt like turning over a new leaf. Why not take an extra step and be a little more sociable? She gave a friendly smile in the woman's direction.

Namine blushed when she realized she had been openly staring. Again. She really needed to stop doing that. But she offered the dark haired woman a small smile. She then looked down at her table top, trying to draw as little attention to herself as possible. She felt horribly guilty for acting like the woman's magic was a show. Magic was special and only the best people could actually master the art of it. Namine scolded herself for acting like a star struck child.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled.

Adeline didn't expect an apology to be the first thing the woman said to her, but she soon realized why. People often said that when they realized they were staring at her. Luckily, her magic was what had drawn the attention and not one of her demon tendencies. "Oh, no, it's fine," she assured the woman. "Magic has a way of getting people to stare. You're not the only one."

"It's rude. I didn't mean to stare." she explained softly.
She tentatively looked up at the other woman. She was confident enough about her abilities not to feel put out by weird people staring. She winced. Bold. She had to be bold. Like Elsa was. Like Anna was. Except that the confidence wavered like a balloon losing air the moment she made eye contact but she slugged along, albeit a little gracelessly.
"O-Oh, um, my n-name is Namine," she offered.

The woman introduced herself as Namine. She seemed timid, but Adeline didn't mind. Heck, she could be pretty nervous sometimes herself when it came to social interactions. But the coffeehouse was a familiar place, and it made her feel more relaxed. "I'm Adeline," she said. She shifted the strap on her bag again. It was starting to bug her shoulder, no doubt because of the weight of all the books. "Sorry. Gotta set this down for a moment." She plopped the bag onto the empty chair across from Nanime, sighing with relief. She needed to invest in a bigger bag. Or maybe dig around for her actual backpack. Ever since her parents had gotten her a tutor, she hadn't used it much, since she didn't have to go outside the house to get to school.

Namine winced when the bag let out a loud thud. Ever since the ball, loud noises had set her on edge. Her heart would race, she would feel trapped where she was, a literal deer in the headlights. Her smile became a little more thin and a little weaker. It wasn't Adeline's fault. Namine had been petrified by the demon that had quite literally crashed the party. It would just take her some time to fall back to her normal routine instead of jumping at every shadow.
"T-That's a lot of books," Namine murmured.

"Hm?" Adeline glanced up. She failed to notice Namine's nervousness spike up, but she did hear her comment about her books. "Yeah, had a big trip to the library this morning," she said. "You mind if I leave these here for a minute while I order something? I'll be right back."

"O-Oh, um, o-okay." she said. "I'll be here..."
She shifted a little in her seat. Without much to say, she went to picking at the crumbs of her scone. She still had half a scone and half a cup of tea left. Adeline seemed to take this as company. Which could be good, as long as Namine didn't stick her foot in her mouth and mess things up. She had a bad habit of doing that. Adeline didn't have to know that, as long as Namine could keep her stammer under control. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves.

"Thanks." Adeline set her bag down before quickly ordering mocha and a blueberry scone. Namine was still at the table by the time she headed back, as well as her bag of books. Although the thought did occur to her that maybe Nanime was waiting for someone, which was why the chair was empty in front of her. Adeline hoped she hadn't acted rude or anything. "You weren't waiting for anyone, were you?" she asked.

Namine quickly shook her head. She had no one to wait for. Maybe Omar, but he was more nocturnal, mornings didn't suit him. He looked like the living dead when he was forced to operate outside of his usual nightly habits. She had seen him 'up late' or early in the morning and he looked like he had gone a few rounds with the riot police, even though, to his credit, he had been staying out of trouble lately.
"I-It's okay," she assured Adeline, "T-The seat is open."

"Oh, great. Do you mind if I sit here?" Normally, Adeline wasn't much for company, but she was in a pretty good mood. And besides, having a new friend or two might perk her up a bit. She remembered Pitch saying how one of the main tactics Thrax would probably use the most was making her scared. When she had first gotten a piece of a demon inside her, she had been scared of hurting people, so she had isolated herself from everyone. No doubt Thrax had wanted that, so she would be easier to prey upon. If making some new friends would go against whatever plans he had for her, then she was all for it.

"N-No! I don't mind!"
Did she squeak? Namine was pretty sure she squeaked. She blushed and quickly looked to her scone. It didn't seem as appealing as before. Her mind was already jumping to the worst conclusions of how a conversation would go. She was cautiously optimistic at best. But the coffee shop had yet to fail her. She had met Elsa here and now Adeline. Mostly because this was the one place she spent as much time in as she did work and home.
