This woman certainly was the nervous type. She almost seemed to be the human version of a mouse, what with her timid nature and the way her voice squeaked sometimes. But Adeline didn't mind too much. It was different, meeting someone that was even quieter than her. She set her scone and mocha down as she pulled out one of her books. She figured she might as well skim through a little bit of it while she talked. She could mark down promising chapters and delve deeper into them later.

"W-What's your book about?" Namine asked.
It was a big book. Adeline either really liked reading or she was researching something. Either was possible in this city. There were plenty of topics that would be so fascinating. Magic for one. Maybe she was researching more about spells she could do? There were so many things that could be out there. Namine was almost encouraged to go to the library herself.

"Meditation, mostly," Adeline replied. She figured she might as well be truthful about what she was doing. Well, mostly truthful. She figured she could leave Thrax out of the conversation for the moment, but there was no reason why she couldn't talk about her quest to find ways to be calm. "If you're calm and are able to control your emotions, your magic won't, like, explode whenever you feel something." It was a common enough thing, even for normal witches. They could accidentally set something on fire or coat an entire room in ice if they happened to get really mad or upset. Adeline especially needed to learn to avoid that. Any anger or fear or sadness she felt was going to feed the demon part of her, and that was the last thing she wanted to happen.

Maybe Namine ought to look into that. She was always a bundle of nerves, so much so she all but blocked away what magic she knew she had. She was always afraid. Always. It helped when she was around people she knew, who wouldn't care if she stammered or messed up, or people who had never hurt her before. She would probably have a panic attack around the demon at the ball.
"O-Oh," she said.
IF she were bolder, she may have suggested chamomile tea. Or she would have suggested counting down from ten before she did anything. Instead, her tongue remained glued to the roof of her mouth. She gave a weak smile, trying to reassure Adeline it wasn't her.

Namine only gave a one-word response, but she seemed curious enough. Most people were. It wasn't a side of magic that they didn't really think about, Adeline included. When she had first started learning magic, all she had wanted to do was master every single spell she came across. She didn't think about whether she would be able to control that power or not. Heck, maybe Namine could use some techniques on relaxation herself. The woman seemed awfully jumpy, as if she was waiting for something bad to happen at any moment. Adeline wasn't sure if that was just her personality or if something bad had happened to make her paranoid. Maybe it was a combination of both. "You okay?" she asked. If Namine didn't want to give a long answer, that was fine. Adeline just wanted to make sure she wasn't about to bolt out the door or something.

"W-What? N-No!" she stammered. "I m-mean yes! I mean - I mean -!"
She sighed and bowed her head. She was fine. She just had a bad habit of getting nervous. Her hands clenched into the material of her little white dress, pooling around her knees. An almost white knuckled grip seized the fabric. She was horribly emotional since the ball. She hadn't seen anyone except for her roommate Aqua so she couldn't see for herself that people she knew were okay.
"I'm fine," she repeated.

Adeline bit her lip. Namine didn't seem fine, but she was worried that she might make her even more nervous if she kept asking questions. Maybe she could suggest some things that might help her. "You know, this book does mention different types of crystals that are supposed to help with relaxing," she said, flipping the book so Namine could see. "And a lot of them are common ones too, like amethysts and sugilites. I bet we could find those at any of the jewelry stores around here." Maybe it wasn't the most subtle of things to say, but Adeline thought she should at least try.

"D-Does it help?" Namine asked.
She had never tried anything like that before. She had long since stopped wearing jewelry and color thanks to how her father used to treat her. Her wardrobe and appearance had become as simple and plain as she could possibly make it in order to avoid making him mad. He was no longer a part of her life, but she still hadn't been bold enough to start trying different things. Even at the party, her dress had been such a light shade of blue it could have been mistaken for white.

"I haven't really tried it before, but I guess there's a first for everything," Adeline said. "Maybe some spells are put on them to give them an extra boost. Crystals and precious stones are really responsive to magic." From the time she was little, Adeline had read about rings having curses on them or necklaces bringing good luck to whoever wore them. If spells like that could be put on jewelry, maybe the same could be done with spells that helped a person relax. Adeline figured that she'd have to learn how to function without them eventually, but they might be good for her to start off with, just so she could get a little extra help.

Namine sighed softly. She wasn’t apt enough to do a spell on jewelry. She could have had someone teach her but with her father the way he had been, she had been too afraid to look for someone to teach her and with the special spell she did know, she did not want to hurt anyone. Not when she was afraid her own powers would blow up in her face. She was probably going to have to ask her roommate but that would open a can of worms she might not want to talk about.
"T-Thank you!" Namine said. "I-I'll look into t-that."

Namine seemed to brighten up a little bit at that, which made Adeline happy. If she could help her, then that was good enough for her. "So, what do you do for a living?" she asked, deciding to change the topic. She had already gone on about her spellwork and finding ways to calm herself down. She was interested to hear a little more about Namine.

"I-I draw," Namine said softly. "F-For the police."
She nudged her sketchpad. She had been drawing when Adeline joined her. She had drawn the old man in the corner, nose buried in a newspaper and a cup of coffee. Black. No sugar. He was a regular like her. She nervously cleared her throat. It was the whole police thing that had other people on edge and she didn't know Adeline's opinion of them.

"Oh, wow. That's cool," Adeline said. Who knew you could make a living like that? Most artists tended to sell paintings or become animators. Not many of them worked with the cops. Adeline wondered if Namine knew Pitch, although she wasn't sure if she should ask. Namine seemed like such a timid person. Looking at Pitch would probably put her on edge majorly. It was an honest reaction, though. Pitch was just a naturally scary-looking guy. Heck, he even used it to his advantage sometimes. He wasn't about to try and hide what he was. Adeline had to admire him for that.

"I-It helps," Namine said.
She liked her job. She just wished she did more to help. The job paid enough, but she still did some side art sales. She wasn't bold enough to try anything else. She just stuck to what she knew - what she was good at. She wanted to be a bit braver but that was unlikely to happen. Not when even the slightest noise made her almost cry these days.
"D-Do you draw?"

Adeline shook her head. "Anything I draw these days usually involves symbols in spells. Luckily, you don't have to be a pro artists to draw those. Which is good, 'cause I can, like, barely draw a stick figure." She pointed at Namine's portfolio. "Can I see?" It looked like she was already working on a drawing. And from what Adeline could see, it looked pretty good.
