It felt strange coming back to the office after a week hiatus. Sunshine's hair was still short, but the good news was it was back to its golden sheen. Her desk, and Shadow's, were as immaculate as they had left them. The lucky rubber duckies greeted her with their yellow bills pointed. The blonde cop squeezed her purple flowered duck, smiling at its high pitched greeting. As her computer booted, she opened the drawer and pulled out a file. A pink post it in her handwriting said
SHOW TO AQUA ASAP
She opened the file slowly, not wanted the bagged, bloody badge to slide out and fall. Once her desktop, showing a picture of her and Thomas with their faces and aprons dirty with flour but a cupcake sculpture pristine, was active, she logged into a word document and began typing

Aqua slowly walked into the office. It was the first time since the Sapien mishap that she had even been able to return to the office. Her glamour was still down. It felt weird walking around with her wings showing and pointed ears. But her wings were still hurt and very weak after the fire. She had been burnt and she had been taking care of herself. Healing was still slow, especially in a city with as much iron as Bellerouge had. She shivered as she walked to her desk. She had a hot chocolate with her, going back to her usual order at Nevermore.
She slowly walked over to her desk, hoping to see Riku. After all this craziness, she just wanted to see her partner and make sure that he was okay after all of this. She was so glad he wasn't at the Sapien bust. She would have lost it if anything happened to her partner. She couldn't lose two partners. Plus, she had to talk to Riku about his sister and what happened at the ball.

Sunshine was so content on typing on her reports that she didn't even hear Aqua's arrival. One would think without Aqua's glamour, she would be able to make some kind of noise to indicate she was in the room. But then again, the only things she really knew about Faeries were what Aqua tdold her and from the stories her mother told her about the Seddons being blessed by a faery. But she did hear a small creak. Looking up from her typing, Sunshine gave Aqua a little wave. "Hot chocolate, no whip/" she asked, trying to make friendly conversation. That, and having worked at Nevermore when not painting or at the office, she had memorized Aqua's usual order. Sunshine had mixed things up with her new order; hazelnut coffee with butterscotch. The holiday flavors were arriving, and she was always happy to have butterscotch.

Riku walked into the room with his arm in a cast and sling. He'd finally convinced Anna that he wouldn't go running after demons again and would probably be doing simple work with Aqua nearby until his arm healed. Aqua was also the person he wanted to find once he got to work. With the Sapien threat and all that had happened he wanted to make sure she was doing alright and everything. It took a few minutes to spot her; he wasn't used to seeing her with wings, and the girl she was talking to he didn't at first recognize, given he'd barely spoken to Sunshine before her haircut. He walked over to the both of them and smiled. "How are you two? Is everything okay?"

"You know me too well, Sunshine," Aqua said with a smile. "Coffee is just too bitter for me."
It was a little weird to see Sunshine without her long flowing hair. But finally, things were finally going back to normal. Aqua could only imagine how Pitch and Shadow felt about it. She felt guilty because all she walked away with were burnt wings, but they had been hit by Sapien. She shifted a little in her spot when she caught a few of the officers staring at her wings, pressing them as close to her back as they would allow without pain. She quietly looked up, surprised to see Riku, but relieved all the same, that was until she saw his arm in a cast. She had asked him to sit out the Sapien bust to keep him from getting hurt and because she knew it would take seasoned agents to get it done. Instead, he went out and got himself all banged up.
"Riku, your arm!" She exclaimed, despite the fact he probably knew it was busted but then softer, but no less concerned she asked. "What happened?"

Sunshine giggled; this time the giggle was genuine. Ever since Yang had treated her and Shadow to pizza and an arcade, her mood slowly was escalating back to the positive side. That and having the sun-harnessed healing powers restored helped a bit, too. In her opinion, she was not a very good brunette. Her eyes fell on Aqua's position. Of all the cops who got hit with the assault, Aqua was one of the few that didn't get hit. The worst that happened to her was her wings getting burned. Sunshine had seen many artist's interpretations of faeries with hurt wings, but in real life, they were no where near as pretty. It was like soemone took a paper mache design and dug a cigarette through it. Multiple times.
She was about to volunteer to heal when a new arrival stopped her. Her heart skipped a tiny beat, and her cheeks burned. Riku. Oh, now this was awkward. Aqua knew about her crush on the voodoo officer, how would she react? Well, apparently not to Sunshine's embarrasment. She hadn't noticed the arm until Aqua pointed out. She stood and gasped quietly, also wanting to know what went on.

Riku stopped smiling when his arm got mentioned and he shrugged. "You know that robbery you let me go on alone? Well, I was doing alright and was tracking the culprit when I notice this guy standing near the scene of the crime. So, I ask if he saw anything" Riku's face turned wry and he rubbed his hurt arm. "Apparently this ticked the guy off and he started attacking me .Turns out, the guy was a demon. So he wraps these shadows around one arm and with my free hand I grab some powders from my pouch and blind him as the shadows break my arm" he shuddered slightly. "If I had stayed any longer the guy-who looked like a teen with spiky brown hair and golden eyes-probably would have done his best to kill me" Riku looked at Aqua pleadingly. "Next time I'll be more careful, okay?" He turned his gaze to Sunshine and blinked. "Short hair looks pretty good on you, Sunshine" he complimented.

"As long as you're careful..."
Riku was hurt on a case without her. Aqua felt a pang of guilt. It probably wouldn't have been any better if he worked in the Sapien bust but she would have at least been there for him. Then again, she hurt her wings carrying two people out. Three would have been impossible. She just didn't have that kind of strength. Still... she felt if she had been there to watch his back it wouldn't have happened. Some partner she was...
"I know the guy..." she muttered darkly. "Vanitas. We had him on an assault charge but he lawyered up. Got out scotch free."
That certainly wasn't good. Vanitas was active again. They would have to try to arrest him again. This time assault on a cop wasn't something to be taken lightly. That could only promise no good on any account. She shook her head. She could deal with that later. Today was good until that news. She was still having a good morning despite all of that. Do she smiled and turned to Sunshine.
"I'm not sure if you've officially met but Sunshine, this is Riku." Aqua said kindly.

Sunshine knew immediately who the guy Riku was deacribing from the word demon. Her blood ran cold, and her normally bright eyes darkened. Vanitas. He was by far the slipperiest criminal the Others Unit had come across. Elsa had come close to putting him behind bars, but he had fired back. Very hesitantly, she put her hand on the trimmed ends of her hair. Riku commented that he liked it, and her face burned. She had only seen him from afar, and Aqua was introducing them now. "My hair can heal injuries!" Sunshine blurted. As she said it, her face flushed not of being near a cute guy, but if embarrasment

"I'll be more careful Aqua" he promised. From now on he'd rely soley on his own abilities if he could help it, unless something happened. His eyes widened. "You've had trouble with this guy before?" so why wasn't he told about him? But now he could put a name to a face and quietly vowed that Vanitas would pay for breaking his arm and ruining his first solo case. The money still hadn't been recovered and he felt for the poor woman. Riku blinked at Sunshine's outburst and nodded. "That's really cool" he said, unsure how to process the blurted information or if he should even ask her to heal his arm. Would that be taking advantage of the situation?

That's all she could ask of him. Rather than lecture him about being careful - because really who was she to argue when she burned her wings? - she just nodded and gave a weary smile. They were police officers. It was among one of the more dangerous jobs in the city aside from being a firefighter or in the national guard. Though Aqua listed herself on their reserves for aerial rescue if it ever came down to it. He was still just a rookie but he was a really good guy.
"It's the first time he's actually attacked a cop." she said.
Sunshine. That's right. Her hair had healing powers. Bless the poor baker girl. She was just so in awe of the tall officer. However, Sunshine also raised a very good point. Her hair healed therefore, Riku would be able to get out of that cast and back to work much faster. Aqua was just kicking herself for not thinking so sooner. At least one of them was thinking rational, Aqua surmised.
"I think..." she began, "That is a very good idea. Riku, Sunshine can heal your arm. Then there's at least one useful officer back on the force."

"Oh, he's attacked cops, but physically, yes, this is a first."
The huffy reply to Aqua's remark had been uttered by Shadow. He was walking into the offices, officially no longer in the Sapien human form. At least he could walk into a place and be recognized. In one hand was his Nevermore order, plopping down and dialing his phone. The less he thought about Vanitas, the better.
Sunshine gave an apologetic shrug to the other two cops. Ironically, they were coming in on a Friday, but it felt like a Monday. Aqua sounded on board with her healing Riku's arm, but she was hesitant for one reason; a broken arm took longer to heal.
"I could...warm up my powers by healing your wings. Considering my, um, haircut,I don't want to exert so much energy. Then when I'm done with that, I can focus on Riku."

Riku turned to look at Shadow and gave the other a nod. "Well, I can give testimony if we manage to drag him in court. Anna can too. She fixed my arm into a temporary cast. This was the first place I thought to come..." Anna had later convinced him to go to the hospital, but he had refused to give his name and had instead gone by John Doe. He knew it was silly, but he could practically feel his family watching his every move and the less it looked he was struggling, the better. Riku waved his good arm, feeling guilty. "Aqua's in worse shape than I am. You should just take care of her. I just have a broken arm. Her wings look really painful" He had only just met Sunshine, it didn't feel right taking advantage of her kindness, especially when she had only mentioned the healing power. It was Aqua who had suggested she heal his arm. Somehow it didn't feel right, just asking her to help him like that.

She had already mentioned how Vanitas lawyered up the moment they brought him in on charges no less than an hour old. She didn't know what they could throw against him to make them stick. There were times where Aqua was almost certain he was untouchable. It was a bit disheartening. But with so many people trying to pick up efforts against him, maybe one day he would be behind bars like he deserved.
"W-What? My wings? I..."
Her wings were probably the most sensitive part of her being. They were pressed flat against her back to keep from bumping into anyone, curled in on each other as if to comfort the agitated cartilage. She was almost afraid that if Sunshine tried to heal her, she would burst into laughter because of the feeling of hair against them. Or something more embarrassing. She didn't really know since she had never ever had anyone heal her wings before and it had been ages since she last let anyone even touch them.
"Are you sure?" Aqua asked. "My wings are bigger than Riku's arm... I just don't want you to overexert yourself."

"The makeup of a wing is not as complex as a bone," Sunshine pointed out. "Mom healed a Seelie who had hot coffee burned on her wing." She gripped the length of hair by her chin, which had the most hair she could use. "Besides, the sooner we can get two cops working, the faster we can get supernatural scum off the street."
Shadow had been engrossed in a call all while the other cops were talking. On the other line was a metalworker who recognized Terra's name from a receipt. Sapien may have been the focus, but since his discovery of Vanitas' involvement with Terra's murder, he could start helping Aqua put the pieces together.
The call finished, and Shadow hung up, quickly scribbling notes about the affairs. However he had an ear open, and he tried hard not to feel jealous of the attention Riku was giving Sunshine.
