"....This is a little different than a coffee burn" Riku pointed out as he inspected his partner's wings. "Do you think you can handle it? We don't want to push you too far Sunshine" Riku sighed. It seemed his arguments for not getting his arm healed would go unheard, so he just accepted the fact that his arm was getting better and the healing herbs he'd been preparing for speedy recovery would probably be donated to the hospital. It was alright, it was still a good cause. Some kid's broken bone would be healed in half time with the herbs, and that was a good thing.

"Well, if you think you can do it, I guess I can't argue." she said. "What do I need to do to make this easier for you, Sunshine?"
She wasn't about to start arguing over who should get healed first. That was silly. If Sunshine was sure she could heal her and Riku, then Aqua wanted to believe her. Yes, coffee burns were different from fire burns, but Sunshine was really confident in her abilities. Aqua couldn't dare try to mess this up for the healer, mostly because it was good for her to try to talk to Riku on her own, showing him she was pretty good at what she did. Not to mention her partner. Shadow didn't seem happy. She just kept smiling, despite her own concerns.

"Just...just relax. That's the best you can do."
Sunshine had knelt to the edge of Aqua's seat. analyzing the best way to go about this. If her hair had been its usual length, she would have easily just wrapped the burn in a hair tourniquet. And with the Sapien not fully out of her system, she couldn't lengthen it like normal. Very carefully, she picked up one of the damaged wings and brought it to the edge of hers hair. Once she felt the slightest tickle, Sunshine started singing;
"The other night, dear, when I lay sleeping..." As she sung, the roots of her hair began to shimmer neon yellow. That glow extended from the scalp and through her hair. It may have looked like a crazy bright yellow wig pressed against a damaged wing, but the more Sunshine sang, the more it glowed. In her head, she was asking the injured tissue to repair itself, to know what it was like to be full and...warm...again. The sun was her strength, and the more she thought about it, the more she knew her power was there. She sang the whole song, ending with;
"Please don't take my sunshine away"
At those words, the hair stopped glowing. The wing no longer flet like ripped crepe paper or Swiss cheese. In its place was a wing, glittering like fancy fabric, rippling like water. Sunshine stood up, tucking her hair back behind her ear.

Riku watched in amazement the healing of the wing. It as a truly incredible feat. Probably a normal thing for Sunshine though. "That's a really cool power" Riku said with a smile. "I'm really impressed. Is this something unique to you or is it something your family does too?" He was suddenly very interested in it. Idly he wondered if her hair was compatible with voodoo or if it counted as dark voodoo. Using human ingredients generally counted as dark voodoo unless used in protection spells. But since her hair had healing powers, maybe it all balanced out? He'd have to ask her if it would be alright to experiment later. "How do you feel, both of you?"

Aqua felt a little self conscious having everyone focusing on her. Sunshine gave her no time to prepare for well anything. Aqua wasn't even sure how to brace herself for a 'healing' when Sunshine touched one of her wings. It felt strange having someone lift the appendage. Like, it wasn't supposed to do that. She carefully lifted the one she Sunshine was guiding upwards, trying not to let it extend too quickly less it hit the other officer in the face. Then came the soft tickle of someone else's hair against her wings. Aqua was embarrassed to say the soft gesture brought a shiver down her spine.
Sunshine's magic trickled through her wing, cool at first but heating up. Warmth like basking in the warm sun. The magic made Aqua feel... safe. Perhaps because it was so similar to her own. Aqua had never had a lot of exposure to other faeries, aside from her parents so her memories of what their magic was like was as faint as their voices in her mind. She could remember, vaguely, if she tried really really hard. She felt new and warm and the nostalgic reminders of what her mother used to do for her when she hurt herself tingled at the back of her mind. She almost flexed her wings but remembered Sunshine was right behind her so withheld the urge.
"I feel much better," she told everyone. "Thank you, Sunshine."

Sunshine said nothing in responses for a while. She stood back up, stroking her hair with a nervous smile. "It...it runs in my mom's family." Now that it was out of the picture, she ducked her eyes down nervously. She had a crush on Riku, and right now the only impression she made was being a good healer. This would take a lot more focus.
Watching Sunshine act like a giddy schoolgirl cut into Shadow. Aqua was healed, which meant Riku was now in her eye. He wouldn't get that kind of look from her. He was, from his discoveries, a homunculus and she was a human. It wouldn't work between them. Grabbing the folder with Terra case, he looked at Aqua. "Aqua, can I talk to you...in private? You need to hear this."

"That's really cool" Riku said with a smile. He wondered why she was acting so nervous around him. Girls usually pretended to act like nervous schoolgirls around him, because he was apparently handsome and of course had a lot of money and they thought if they acted like that he'd think they were cute. But with Sunshine he sensed it was genuine and wondered at the exact reason behind it. Maybe because he was a voodoo priest and his herbs healed like her hair, but a bit more slowly? He couldn't imagine why she'd like him. He knew he was prideful and sometimes reckless. And people found him often too quiet or thoughtful for their tastes. Maybe he'd discreetly ask her later, or try to figure it out on his own.
He offered her his arm. "It's in a cast, though. Do we need to cut it out of the cast first?" That would be pretty painful to say the least. If they really had to cut it out of the cast Riku wouldn't be looking forward to it. Riku turned his head to Shadow and Aqua and nodded to them. "Sunshine and I got this. You can go, it's obviously important"

"Oh, um, okay?"
That was strange. Shadow sounded so serious. Aqua got up from her desk and glanced over to Sunshine and Riku. Yeah, they could handle whatever it was that Sunshine needed to do to heal Riku's arm. She folded her wings close to her back once again. Almost tentatively she joined Shadow over by his desk. A talk in private? Was it about the Sapien thing? Aqua had only dragged Shadow and Pitch out because she would not live with herself if she was forced to make a decision between the two of them. She looked down at the shorter officer.
"What is it Shadow?" she asked.

Sunshine glanced down at Riku's cast arm. Ooh, that was a good point. How could she work with that if the cast was still fresh? There'd be a no set bone for her to work with. She asked, "How long has that cast been on? If it's over three weeks, then I can try to heal with it."
Aqua approached Shadow, with his face set into his typical serious expression. But something in his eyes spoke mixed emotions; empathy for her since learning of Maria's death, honesty that he wasn't taking the news lightly, and anger towards Vanitas' actions. "Sunshine and I found something during an investigation. Something you need to see." He pushed the folder with their notes to her, the bloody badge rattling inside.

"Oh...since the Sapien fiasco I think? It's when the arm got broke and I got it set as soon as I could" he said, trying to think how long in weeks that even was. "I'm sorry, time has been a little fuzzy. I just stopped needing pain meds and my herbs and charms" and pain meds always made things a bit blurry. He'd been fine enough to do paperwork but that was about it. He looked over to Aqua and Shadow. "Does this have something to do with Aqua's issues? She went into a little bit about her last partner and I understand he turned out to be a crooked cop and disappeared. I didn't pry too much though because it's not my place, but I am curious about if anything was discovered." he hadn't been here long enough to earn her absolute trust yet, and had only just gotten her to open up about things. And to stop treating him like he was going to betray her in an instant. He looked at Sunshine. "You don't have to tell me, I'm just curious"

"What?"
He pushed a folder at her. It all felt so ominous. She glanced up at him, confused and partially suspicious. The folder was heavy, unusually so. It didn't only contain paper. Through the folder, she felt a weight to it, small, circular. Heavier than paper. The look on Shadow's face, it worried her. A part of her didn't want to open the folder, too afraid of whatever it was that he discovered. She frowned, steeling herself and bracing for whatever was so important that Shadow felt she had to know. Her heart stopped in her chest when she looked down at the gleaming but filthy badge beneath the manila folder. The serial number... The name... Terrance. Terra.
"Is this some kind of a joke?" she hissed. "Because I'm not laughing."

Shadow looked long and hard at Aqua. "It's not a joke. Forensics just analyzed the badge we found. It's definitely Terra's. We also found a suspect; we found it in Vanitas' lair." He was on the very edge of saying the name with absolute loathing. He understood how Aqua felt; vindictive.
While they were talking, Sunshine had already sat next to Riku. Her hands were trembling. It was tough not to show excitement for being next to a guy she had a crush on. The better news was she was getting insight on him as a person.He was the concerned type, the intellectual type, curious as to what Shadow and Aqua were talking about. Sunshine already knew the answer. Very quietly, she answered. "We found clues to Aqua's former partner. Shadow was the right person to tell; I'd only sugarcoat it, he tells it like it is."

Riku looked at the two talking quietly and nodded with understanding. "It's good for her to hear new news I think. I hope this helps her find closure" She was taking good steps towards healing he felt, at least she didn't act like he was going to hurt her at the drop of a hat anymore. But Riku hoped that what she found wouldn't break Aqua. "Alright, should I take off the cast and let you do your thing or...?"

"You..." Aqua breathed, her voice shivering in anger. "You had no right digging into that, Griffiths. How dare you?"
She felt hurt, absolutely betrayed. She didn't tell Shadow to dig into her past, dig into what her partner had done. She had told him about her partner because she trusted him but he used that trust, went searching where he had not right to search. She would take care of things herself, like she had always done. Terra was a personal matter but Shadow and Sunshine had just made it a matter of office business, like her feelings meant nothing. She was shaking with a subtle sort of rage that was wearing at her. She snatched up the evidence baggie that contained Terra's badge and rose to her feet. She was holding back very Unseelie responses to what Sunshine and Shadow just did. Didn't stop her from sending a dirty look to either of them. She had to get out of there, tell the chief she was taking a personal day. Fly away from there.
"Keep your nose in your business!" she snapped.

"We were going to give it to you anyway." Shadow was unphased by Aqua's anger. She had a right to be irate. Terra had been her partner, and she had been obsessed with finding out what had happened. The only digging they had done was testing to see if the badge was real and not a fake planted by Vanitas. The truth was out and back in the hands of the right detective to look at it. Saying nothing else, the black hedgehog went back to his desk.
"...what happened?" Sunshine asked. She had only looked up just to see her partner typing madly.
"Not exactly a thank you, but it wasn't a 'fuck you'...bit of both, kind of used to it."
Sunshine nodded solemnly. The big issue was off the table. Now she could focus on Riku. "Don't worry about the cast. It...hopefully should work." Well, at least she hoped it would. She pressed her hand on the cast where her thick hair was. She sang again, thevhair glowing right yellow.
