"At the cemetery," Adeline replied without even thinking. Although, after a moment, she realized how strange that sounded. A graveyard wasn't exactly a typical meet-up place for people. "Nothing bad happened. I was just taking a shortcut and...we kind of ran into each other." That first encounter...it had seemed like so long ago. Pitch had been ballsy enough to trigger her demon side on purpose, just to see how strong it was. She remembered thinking he was a little nuts. But, she had been willing to accept his help. She had been desperate for anything that could help her feel less scared and paranoid.

"Yeah, cemeteries just breed romance..." Axel commented dryly.
A little strange to be meeting someone. The short cut, Axel understood. He took short cuts through some not so great places all the time. But the fact that someone else was just there? A little creepier. Unless the guy liked being around the dead. Axel immediately thought of Necromancers. They liked the dead an awful lot. Strange beings.
"Uh, the guy's not a ghost or a zombie or something, right? He is alive?" Axel asked.
If he wasn't living, he might have to intervene on Adeline's behalf. Necromancers tried some pretty shitty stuff during the Black War and he wasn't about to find out that Adeline had been struck with a love potion for a zombie or something - someone who could never return her affections.

Adeline had to snicker at that. "It does sound kind of strange when you said it out loud," she admitted. Heck, everything about her and Pitch was strange. It seemed like ever since she had summoned Thrax, she had been thrown off the track of whatever normal things kids did. And ever since, her life had been one big case of weird. "Oh, no. He's alive," Adeline said reassuringly. "Although he's usually pretty serious. Doesn't smile much, you know?" Adeline could count the number of times she had seen Pitch smile on one hand. Although, she had to admit, every time she had seen him smile, it had made her feel very happy.

"I just had to double check," Axel said.
It was good that the guy wasn't dead. Or a necromancer. Those guys had a weird thing for blood. That and vampires. Granted, if he hadn't made a midnight snack out of the young girl, he didn't seem likely to do so any time soon. As long as he didn't see any reports of her going missing, Axel suppose he could let it slide. If he did, he would probably get the police involved and go after the guy himself. The kid was too trusting of dark and dangerous people it seemed, especially since she came back to his bar.
"So, confess to him yet?" he asked.

Adeline shook her head. "No. I don't even know if I should. I mean..." She sighed. "I want him to know we can still hang out, even if I don't need his help anymore. I just...don't know how to say it." What would Pitch even think if she tried to seek him out? Would he think she was weird? Or pathetic?

"You like the guy but you're not going to tell him?" Axel asked.
Oh dear, another one of those. Shadow was just the same. He knew there were probably insecurities keeping her from telling the guy but until she laid it all out for this guy to see, she wouldn't know if she was letting go of the best thing to happen to her or moving on from something that would have held her back. Humans and their what ifs drove him crazy. What if I told him? What if he loved me back? What if he doesn't like me after this? Well, those were part of life. Part of the adventure.
"Little advice, if you want something. Don't think. Act."

"I don't know," Adeline replied, feeling like Axel's tone was a little accusatory. It wasn't that simple. Sure, things were kind of sucky between her and Pitch, but if she confessed her feelings, they might get even worse. Not to mention, some people might flip out at the idea of them getting together. Adeline's parents liked Pitch well enough, and trusted him to teach her how to deal with her demon side, but she was pretty sure they'd freak out if she told them she liked him. And she felt like this wasn't the same as girls who got crushes on older celebrities or a cute teacher. This felt different. "Is that how you go about your romantic endeavors?" she asked, glancing up at Axel.

"For the most part, yeah," Axel said. "You might have a hard time believing it, but a demon has a hard time getting anyone besides a demon or a one night stand."
When you actually found someone willing to look past the stereotypes and even sometimes your baser natures, then yes, demons fought for it. They didn't exactly care at that point what anyone else thought about the situation. Yeah, Adeline said the guy was older, but not by how much. To be fair, Axel would be the last to judge for that sort of a thing. It was a relationship. The only two people in the entire world that mattered were her and the guy. If both parties equally liked and respected each other then screw what the rest of the world thought. Shadow did the same thing with his whole 'I'm not human and I'm no good for her' schtick. What was it with people in this city? If they stopped being so emotionally constipated they would be so much happier.
"What's holding you back then, kiddo?" he asked.

Axel did have a point. Demons did have a bad rap around here. Of course, Adeline felt like some of that bad rap was within reason. After all, half of the demons she had met had messed with her mind pretty badly. Still, Pitch and Axel had treated her decently. She had to give credit where credit was due. When Axel asked what was holding her back however, she found it hard to give a straight answer. She wasn't sure how much advice he could really give when she was being so vague all the time. There were a lot of elements of the situation that she couldn't tell him. So, was there really a point to all this? "I...I don't think he would feel the same way about me," she replied. "Like I said, he's...a bit older than me. And...he has a hard time feeling things the same way we do. I don't know if an emotion like that is possible for him." Falling in love seemed like the last thing Pitch would do. Adeline wasn't sure if confessing could make such a difference in that.

"So... age and this guy is emotionally stunted?" Axel asked.
The age was no big deal. But the whole emotions thing could be a problem down the line. Adeilne was young. She was looking for a romantic relationship with meaning. Passion. All that stuff that young girls looked for when they were seeing someone. If the guy couldn't do that, then she would end up hurting herself in the long run. But she liked him. Who knew? It might have only been a crush. And she was young. She could fall for whoever she wanted to and fall for someone else later.
"What are you going to do about it?"

"That's the problem," Adeline said with a sigh. "I don't know what to do. If I go and find him, he may just think I'm...dumb. I mean, if some teenage girl came crawling to your doorstep, begging to spend time with you, you'd probably be a bit turned off, right?" She glanced downward. "I want to show him that we can still hang out, even if I don't need his help anymore. I'm just not sure how." That had become her goal the day Pitch had broken things off with her. But, the more she thought about it, the more she realized that she had dedicated herself to a cause without really knowing how she was going to pull it off. How could she show Pitch that he could still spend time with her, even if she didn't need his help as much as before?

"I don't think I have an easy answer for you, kid." Axel admitted.
Certainly didn't sound easy. He couldn't say what he would do if he were in her crush's position because he had never been in that position before. He hadn't even considered it. He didn't know what his reaction would be. He didn't know how to advise her so he was just going to play it on the safer side. Just go with the flow for now, but when she saw an opportunity, pounce.
"I suppose, if you're lucky, you could just run into the guy again." he said. "The city's pretty big but things tend to get a little more scaled down when you're going through the daily routine. Guy has to go out to the grocery or something, right? All natural like, you see?"

"Maybe," was all Adeline said in response. Maybe she could pull that off, although she had no idea what Pitch did besides work at the police station. He probably ate less than most, since he was a demon and all. And he probably didn't do a whole lot of social stuff that other people tended to do, like book clubs or speed dating. Adeline wasn't even sure where he lived, and she doubted she could get his address without looking like a creep.

"Be patient. But subtly persistent." Axel said. "Sounds like you'd scare the guy off if you're too aggressive."
Axel would honestly have loved to see Adeline try to get all aggressive flirting with this apparently emotionally stunted man. He had seen the same types of guys in his bar stutter, stumble over themselves and choke on their drinks when they were approached by a rather dominant person. It amused the Hell out of him when they did. He would have died laughing if Adeline tried. She was a cute kid, not his type, but cute. He didn't think she had it in her to very very forward with her flirting. He bet that she would have been redder than his hair if someone flirted with her.

Adeline gave a laugh. "He doesn't exactly get scared easily," she said. "He can be kind of scary himself." It was no wonder that a lot of people were intimidated by Pitch. Besides being a demon, he had a way of making someone shake in their boots with just one look from his golden eyes. Although, Adeline wondered if he'd freak out if she tried to seriously flirt with him like she'd seen girls to people they had crushes on. Maybe he's just get really confused, or just not be impressed at all. Adeline felt like she couldn't predict his reaction.
