Adeline gave a little laugh before she took another long sip of her tea. This banter was actually kind of nice, in her opinion. It made her feel better and forget all the bad stuff shoved in the back of her head. After all, she had a lot more to deal with than Pitch. Thrax was still out there, doing who knew what. Adeline knew he had to be caught sometime. She just wondered how long it would take.

She was laughing. He counted that as a victory in his books. Especially since she had been so depressed the first time she came to the bar. Sure, she had more problems than most people, especially with demons haunting her every step. Not to mention the crush she wasn't going to act on. She was younger than most. So these problems weighed heavier on her. So Axel was going to remind her she was still a kid and make her laugh like one.
"But alas, I'm too hot for my own good," Axel bemoaned for her benefit. "Can't risk using my powers too often. Things have a tendency to go up in smoke."

Adeline snickered. "Never took you for a punny kind of guy," she said. It felt good to just laugh and talk about not-so-serious things. Sure, she was still not sure what to do about Pitch. But Axel had at least given her something to think about. And he made her laugh. That was enough for her.

"It's been known to happen on occasion." Axel grinned. "Why? You don't like them?"
He grinned. He didn't often make jokes. Didn't have a reason to or the mood for it. It had been easier lately. But he also spent more time around 'gentle' souls like Adeline and Anna who probably wouldn't react well if he used dark humor or was as bitterly sarcastic as he often was. She was too 'innocent'. At least she acted that way.

"They're okay, I guess," Adeline replied. "I've just never been good at them myself." Adeline's humor was more of a dry wit sort of thing. Most of the funny things she said came along with a sarcastic tone, or were muttered under her breath. Or she ended up being funny on accident, usually when she tripped over something or her face turned beet red.

"That's because you're just a kid," Axel replied without missing a beat. "These things age like fine wines."
Some people were a bit quicker when it came to puns and jokes. He was sure that Adeline was funny, but wasn't giving herself due credit. And as the bartender, of course he would compare things to alcohol. It was an occupational 'hazard' he supposed. But at least Adeline was having fun and not stressing over the demons in the city. Or her crush. She could go and think up ways to try to date the guy later. Axel was certain he would hear about how her attempts would go.

Adeline just gave a nod and sipped the last of her tea. Maybe she'd just leave the punny stuff to Axel. He seemed to be pretty good at them already. "I'd better get going. You know how my parents are about me staying out late and stuff." Granted, they weren't helicopter parenting, but still. They tended to like updates on where she was at and when she might be home. Then again, they may relax a bit now that Vanitas was behind bars. Sure, Thrax was still out there, but at least one more criminal was behind bars. Maybe they'd take some comfort in that. "Thanks for the...love advice," she said. She still wasn't sure if she could be straight-forward with things like Axel suggested, but she would make good on her promise and at least think about what he had said.

Axel chuckled. Like any kid, she had a curfew to adhere to. Her parents would probably lose any leniency that they had for her 'activities' if they found out she had literally been 'bar hopping' at a demon run bar no less. And his 'love' advice might have been one of those take it or leave it situations. She might have to figure out how to win her guy on her own. After all, she knew him better than Axel did. Then there was trying to figure out how to talk to him since he was avoiding her.
"Tell me how it works out with Romeo." he said.

Adeline chuckled. In a way, this relationship between her and Pitch was sort of forbidden like Romeo and Juliet's. She just wondered if their love would turn out okay, or if it would end in tragedy like theirs. She felt like each outcome had an even chance of happening. Maybe she would just have to wait and see. "Sure. See you later, Love Guru." She left some cash to pay for her drink, then gave a little wave as she headed out the door. And she decided that she did feel better as she was leaving, than she did when she had first come in.
