Adeline nodded. At least Namine was getting some money in. In a way, Adeline was more lucky. She was still living under her parents' roof. When she had first summoned Thrax, she didn't have to worry about a job or money or anything like that. She had her parents to rely on, and they helped figure out what was best. That was why they had taken her out of school and had gotten her a tutor instead. Being around her other classmates had just been too much. Namine probably had to deal with stuff like that at her job, plus she was living on her own. Although it was good she had some people looking out for her. A support system was important. "Maybe you could sell art online, in the meantime?" she asked. "It could bring in some extra cash and you won't have to deal with anyone face-to-face. Everything can be done on the computer." She wasn't sure how viable that was as a source of income, but it could be something Namine could try until she could go back to working full time.

"I do... O-Only occasionally though."
She didn't put her work out there, Aqua said. She barely did gallery exhibits and the whole online thing was a little wary because internet was forever. If she messed up online, then it was stuck there. Also, the person could very well take her work if she posted pictures and say it was theirs. She didn't want to risk that. Art was so much more complicated than when she was a little kid. Or maybe it had always been complicated and she had never known.

Well, at least that was something. Namine was doing a whole lot, but she didn't have to right now. Right now, taking baby steps was the most important. Rushing her would just make her feel worse. Adeline sipped her drink for a moment before asking "What are your friends like? The ones who help you out and stuff?" Adeline doubted she had met them, but still. It'd be nice to hear what they were like. Maybe she could work with them in helping Namine recover. After all, getting over demon trouble was practically her specialty right now. Sure, she was still working on getting over it, but at least she had experience with it and knew what it was like.

"U-Um, t-there's Aqua. She's my r-roommate. She's been great. S-She helped me keep my job and she helped me find a therapist to talk to," Aqua said. "A-And Jane has been making sure I-I'm not alone. She was there when... He..."
When He grabbed her off the streets. Jane had tried to fight back at every twist and turn. Jane hadn't needed to jump in to try and save her like she did. It was probably only because Jane had fought and gotten captured that anyone even cared that Namine had disappeared. Namine hadn't had a cell. Vanitas had used Jane's phone to call Omar to taunt him - rub it in his face that he had the two young women.
"A-And there's O- er my dad."
That was going to take some getting used to. Would Omar even be okay if she called him dad? She certainly hoped so. He was adopting her. Strange to do since she was legally an adult, but all because she made a silly wish aloud, which he heard, he was determined to make it happen. She supposed for an immortal like him, what was one more child? A human child at that.

So that was the name of the other woman who had gotten kidnapped. Adeline had remembered hearing that Namine hadn't been the only one taken. She just couldn't remember the person's name. Aqua sounded vaguely familiar. Wasn't she one of the officers on the BPD: Others Unit? Adeline had met a few of them during her trips to the police station. She doubted any of them remembered her though. She was just one more victim they had to help out, one more case to be added to their pile. It wasn't like she was expecting anything more, though. That was their job. They talked to her, recommended some courses of action, and did their best to catch the bad guy. "How's Jane handling it?" she asked. From the sound of it, she seemed to be recovering better than Namine, assuming she had enough energy to help the blonde out. Some people moved on from these things faster than others.

"Jane..." Namine laughed. "She just..."
Jane was so strong. She had literally bounced back from the kidnapping. She had been so confident that Omar would pull through for them. She had been so happy that her father had come to the rescue, just as she had hoped. Jane had told Namine so many times during their stint with Vanitas that Omar was coming. He would save them both.
"It's like it never h-happened."

Adeline's suspicions were confirmed. It looked like Jane had some strong resilience going on here. Adeline wondered if she was just born that way, or if something had happened in her life that had toughened her up for things like this. Either way, it looked like she had moved on from this, and was now helping Namine do the same. "She sounds tough. Maybe she should join the police or something. Knock some bad guys' heads around," she joked. If this woman could bounce back from being kidnapped by a demon so quickly, she'd probably be suited well enough to be a cop.

Namine quickly shook her head. Jane with the police? Worst idea ever. Jane hated the police. She resented them with everything she had and then some. Namine was fairly certain that forgiveness would never be given by the young half troll for as long as she could live. So no, Jane did not have a future in the BPD Others unit, not now, not ever.
"Jane h-hates the police." Namine said.

Adeline blinked. She hadn't expected a response like that. "Really? How come?" Had she had a bad experience with them or something? Adeline felt like she had had the opposite. Sure, they hadn't caught Thrax yet, but at least they were trying. Plus, Pitch was a cop, and he was one of the most wonderful people Adeline had ever met. They helped people and caught the bad guys. At least, they were supposed to. She knew that not every police officer was a good one, but the ones she had met were. She felt like that had to count for something.

"T-The police... put her in foster care a-after he mom and brother were killed." Namine whispered. "B-But didn't check if her dad was still alive."
Jane had been torn away from the only family she had left. Forced to grow up with people who tried to make her something that she wasn't. The same people who told her that if she acted human, she was human. They tried to stamp out all troll attributes that cropped up in her life. It wasn't a good way to live, especially if you were an Other and were harassed for it.

"Oh. I see." That was a pretty understandable reason. Adeline couldn't imagine going through something like that. Still, could you really hate all officers for the rest of your life because of something like that? That was like Adeline hating all demons because of what Thrax and Vanitas had done to her. If she had held that prejudice, she never would have been able to become close to Pitch and Axel. Adeline wasn't sure if it was her place to object to that, but she felt like she should say something. "Not all of them are bad though. I mean, you've seen that yourself. And one of them's helped me out a lot, more than I probably deserve." She sipped her drink before asking "Is there any way to change her mind?" If Jane was stubborn about her attitude towards cops, Adeline didn't want to try and start something. Best to let bygones be bygones, if that was the case.

"I k-know they aren't. T-They saved me from... my b-biological father and V-Vanitas."
Admitting it was a frightening thing. Namine almost expected either her father or Vanitas to just appear because she dared to say it aloud. But the police had saved her from situations she had never been able to save herself from. Her father was the violent type and an off duty officer saved her. Then when it came to Vanitas, the entire force came after him, though he was a dangerous individual so they weren't going to let him get away.
"J-Jane seemed determined to hate them." Namine whispered.

Adeline's brow furrowed. So, the dad Namine had mentioned earlier was an adoptive one? He was different from her biological father? It seemed like Namine was dealing with more than just Vanitas. She had daddy issues too. Was he the reason why she was so shy and quiet? "Do you wanna talk about him?" she asked, referring to Namine's father. She wasn't sure if Namine would spill the beans, considering that this was only the second time they had hung out together. But maybe hearing about him would help Adeline understand her a little better.

"There isn't m-much to say." Namine said. "H-He's in jail. A-And... I'm b-being adopted by O-Omar LaRue."
Namine didn't like talking about her father if she could help it. He was a cruel and vicious man after her mother disappeared. The police saved her so that was why she strove so hard to work for them. Namine had a hard time dealing with conflict because of how that man treated her. Aqua certainly never expressed any fond sentiments of him when Namine confessed what happened. The faery happily informed her that despite how he escaped during the riots, he was quickly detained, with more time put on his sentence for trying to escape.

That news surprised Adeline. Could adults legally get adopted? She hadn't heard of it before. Then again, there was a first time for everything. Besides, if this Omar guy treated her well, then Adeline was all for it. If Namine could surround herself with a family that would look after her and make sure she was okay, Adeline was sure it would do her loads of good. "So, should I start calling you Namine LaRue?" she joked, giving a little smile. If she was correct, Omar was the dad of the other girl who had been kidnapped by Vanitas, Jane. It looked like Jane and Namine were going to be sisters, legally at least. Adeline supposed that was a good thing. Jane may be biased against cops, but it sounded like she was good to Namine, so that pleased her.
