"I suppose I have my parents to thank for that."
Aqua wasn't sure how it sat with her that Omar knew more about the courts than she did. Even worse that the other faeries had become elitists. Omar had proven he was a good and kind person. As she was learning, it wasn't entirely just a Seelie thing to help humans. Unseelies could be fond of humans too, they had a different way of showing it. She had honestly never been around other faeries. She didn't know their customs or their beliefs. She had been around humans for so long and most of them were very open minded about everything. After her parents passed away, she had been in an orphanage with humans and Others. So naturally, she didn't see anything different about them.
"I'm sorry that the other faeries treat you that way." she said. "I... It's my job to get both sides of the story. I wouldn't have just blamed you."

"Wish I'd known them. They would have been a breath of fresh air" His own master was an elitist prick. But Davey had at least learned that when Omar needed a century or two of peace and alone time, it was best to give it. "So I'm taking it you've never learned your people's customs, right? you talk about your parents in the past tense so I'm assuming they passed" He paused and smiled. "I never, um...Never was raised by my own kind either. I was raised by humans and Unseelie fae. It's common for faeries to take troll children and switch them out with human children to raise as servants. More an Unseelie practice now than a Seelie one I've heard" It was still a slightly common practice, though not in America. He shrugged again. "I make myself useful. Back in my teens I was serving class to upperclass humans anyway. I'm used to it" He blinked at her and smiled. "Thanks for that. That means a lot, Officer Malone" he winked at her.

"Yeah. They passed away. It was a car accident. And well, cars and iron." she said. "After that I grew up in an orphanage. There were lots of humans and lots of Others."
She was trying to make light of it. Their death had happened years ago. She shouldn't act like it had only been the day before, even if she did still miss them fiercely. Actually, that was the most she had spoken about her past. Probably because Omar had offered his up first. Select few knew her parents were dead. Though everyone knew that Terra was gone. It had been the loss that cut her the deepest because she could choose her love but her parents were blood.
"I wasn't ever around other Faeries because my parents lived here," Aqua explained. "I... I'm sorry. I... What they did was wrong."
The whole 'stealing' children to replace them with someone else's was deplorable. It made Aqua sick to her stomach. Just because they had power, it didn't mean they should abuse it like that. Her people - her kind - were forcing humans and trolls into slavery. It made her head spin a little. But there wasn't anything she could have done to stop whatever faery forced Omar into work. If he was a bard a long time ago, he had been around before her mother and father even met. He was free now, so that had to count for something.
"It's just Aqua when I'm off duty," she said firmly.

Omar winced. "I saw a troll woman convicted of stealing children in the 18th century in Romania" he said softly. "They stripped her, tied her to a pole and smeared church dirt on her till she died of 3rd degree burns. Church soil does for full trolls what iron does for you faeries. I'm so sorry if you had to watch your parents..." he shuddered. He regarded her with a mixed expression. "It's part of what Fae do. You do realize that there are two stories about how they were created, right? One says that in the war between the angels and fallen angels there was a group of angels that chose neither side. so they were cast down to earth, being too good for hell but too bad for heaven. Another says they're the children of demons and angels. I don't know if either story is true though. Either way, you fae folk are a mix of good and evil. A perfect blend of chaos"
He gave a short laugh and rubbed the back of his neck self-consciously. "No offense to you. You're great. I doubt you have a mean bone in your body. But others aren't so nice" he paused when their food and drinks were brought to them, nodded to the waitress and then continued after she left. "They also replace sick or dying faery children with human children so the humans can cure the faery babies. Or give them a good burial. But more often than not, it's taking troll children. Like me" he sighed and smiled at her. "Sorry for the heavy topics. I doubt you want to talk about this on a night out"

Aqua covered her mouth with her hand as he described the troll woman. It brought back the memory of what happened to her parents and it was something she would wish on no one, not even her worst enemy. Even if it came down to it, she wouldn't be able to shoot Vanitas with an emerald bullet, just like how she couldn't watch another faery die because of iron. Not again. Never again.
"I didn't know," she said, feeling a bit silly for repeating the same answer.
Her parents didn't' tell her. They probably thought she was better off not knowing. She was starting to learn things about the court that she didn't want to know. She had been blissfully unaware of some of the things they did. Ignorance was bliss she supposed. Omar must have thought her to be very ignorant. She had just been in the human realm so long she all but acted like one. She didn't see herself as faery half the time, just a human with wings.
"Yes," she agreed, voice slightly strained, "Let's talk about something else."

Whoops. Maybe he shouldn't have told her. "I uh, don't believe in church" he said with a half smile. "It's just too dangerous. I have to wear long clothes and gloves and good boots if I want to set foot on church property" He shrugged. "Church bells cause indescribable pain for me and Jane and other trolls. So I keep my distance" he laughed a little. "Hence why I'm telling you now, sweetie. Being what you are, you should know about this. Be able to make more informed choices when it comes to your kind" He wished someone had told him his heritage when he was young. He was still learning it now. "It's good to know who your people are. I ally myself with the humans but my people are Trolls, ya get me?"
He leaned back and thought before smiling.
"Red grows the rose, red like lover's lips. sweet are the pomegranate's pips, sweet like my love. honey flows amber like her hair, the blue of a bluebird is nothing to her eyes. Darker blue than any skies. Inky flowers twine through skulls, forever printed on her skin. These are the traits does make a lover. When I think of them, I think of her"
He paused and looked down. "... I wrote that for Jane's mother. It was going to be her birthday present but.." But he found her dead with their son in her arms two weeks before her birthday. It had been horrible. "I've toyed with the idea of making it a song, what do you think?"

"You're right. I should know these things." she said. "I'll be sure not to make you or Jane go within a hundred yards of a church as well."
Informed choices. Things had been happening quickly as of late. Like her deal with the Seelie Queen. She didn't feel like she was given much choice in anything. The only choices she had made were starting to lead to regrets. Before she could delve too much further into dark thoughts and self loathing, Omar started to recite poetry. Not surprising since it was a poetry night. She just didn't expect him to be the one reciting. Though the way he spoke, she could tell the real feelings behind each word. He truly did love Jane's mother.
"It's very sweet," she told him kindly. "I'm sure it would make a lovely song."

"It's alright. I can understand not knowing. But I'm here if you need some clarification. Seelie and Unseelie courts work somewhat similar. The Raven Prince Madoc Morfrin or as he prefers in this day and age Arimane, the brother in law of Queen Titania. Therefore they work together closely. The inner court workings are pretty much the same" just with scarier creatures in the Unseelie court than in the Seelie. And more drab colors. "Now to figure out the tune" he said with a half smile. He picked up his coffee and sipped on it. "Any songs you particularly like? Any genre. I'm always looking for new things to learn to play for my performances" he grinned and leaned in. "Have you seen my website? It's getting over 200,000 hits a week! Pretty good for what's practically a garage band"

"Maybe I'll take you up on the offer."
It was probably a good idea to know what she was getting into. The faery court almost seemed too good to be true. Particularly with the Seelie Queen involved. It left the blue haired faery with a bad taste in her mouth, but there was nothing she could do. She was powerless to stop the queen of all people. And still, Omar continued to keep things light after that by talking about what he knew best - music. Aqua wasn't as musically inclined as her mother, but she could carry a tune if she had to.
"Songs... I don't really listen to much but I suppose I listen to rock." she mused but then smiled. "And don't tell Namine I told you, but she finished that album cover you wanted. She's over the moon about it."

"I'll get out my old stuff on the courts. Maybe you can come over and I'll tell you all I can" he smirked slightly. "If I were a faery I'd say there was a price. With you lot there's always a price. But, I'm a troll. I don't believe in that" he grinned in delight. "Rock music huh? My specialty. I didn't create it but oh boy I wish I did. Do you like classic or modern or all types?" his eyes lit up at the last comment. "My album cover? I didn't think she'd actually do it, I mean, it's been a while. I can't wait to see it"

"Price... Oh," she murmured.
The deal with the Queen suddenly made more sense. Knowledge in exchange for knowledge. But she would feel bad if she didn't do something for Omar in exchange. She would be eating up more of his time. Not to mention it would have to be before a performance or after one. Their hours would be off and she certainly didn't want him to stay up later/earlier in the morning for her sake.
"I could make dinner?" she offered.
She smiled. Omar didn't seem to mind her company, despite saying how strange it was for a faery to be so accepting. And he was willing to teach her about her own people. Even the Seelie Queen or her people had offered her that. Everything she knew about her people, about herself, she had discovered on her own. She hadn't been able to count on others for that growing up.
"All types. Dad used to have these old records... I wish I still had them." she said. "Of course she finished it. She was delighted that you asked her to."

"Everything has a price with them. From say, giving a charm to a child to, well, saving someone's life" He looked down again, lost in his own thoughts. "Hm? Dinner? That'd be nice. But I can make dinner. No need to worry about it" He served faery people. It didn't seem right to have one make him dinner. "Man, I would have loved to get my hands on them. See everything he had" he said longingly before looking down at his coffee and sandwich. "We should probably eat" he said sheepishly. He had enjoyed talking to Aqua too much, but now his stomach was growling.

It made a sick sort of sense. Sunshine's family were gifted powers because of that exchange. They saved a life and were in return gifted powers. It contradicted what she had been taught by her parents, namely her mother. She was Seelie. She was supposed to do kind things to do those who deserved it without asking for thanks for seeking recognition for her work. Or so she had been told. But her parents didn't seem to fit a lot of faery molds.
"I can't have you making me dinner and teaching me about faeries!" Aqua reasoned. "At least let me make dessert."
She smiled as she thought about her father's collection of old records. He was a fan of the old school record player and those sorts of singers, even when Aqua had teased him about his tastes. He said a 'child' like her wouldn't know what she was talking about until she was as old as he was. After he passed away, his things disappeared. Perhaps stolen by the estate lawyers or just misplaced in the storage locker, but she would have liked to listen to them again.
"Yeah, we should. You have to get to your next gig." she said.
She had been minding the time because she didn't want to make him late. It was his job after all. She wouldn't steal his livelihood from him because she wanted to spend time with him.

He laughed and shook his head. "Honey, I cooked, cleaned and taught my kids without expecting them to do a thing for me. I'm used to being asked to do it all. I don't care" He raised an eyebrow but shrugged. "How about you take me out. Your favorite place since I showed you mine. Fair's fair and since you're insisting..." she looked really happy and nostalgic and he wondered if she was thinking of memories of playing the records with her dad. "Actually...I scheduled tonight so I don't have a gig. I figured you deserved to have my undivided attention. Besides, I love poetry night. Some of the poems can be quite spectacular" he took a bite though and sighed happily. He loved coming here.

"Don't you honey me," Aqua lightly scolded. "Fine. Hope you like milkshakes."
Kids. So there were more kids than just Jane and her brother? The case that Aqua had read up on. The one the BPD had let go through their fingers all because they couldn't spare the man power for a few 'trolls'. Seems faeries weren't the only ones with biases. Funny the things she was learning about Omar all in one night. She supposed after this, she couldn't exactly deny him the right to see Namine. Not that she had intended to in the first place. He did the blonde wonders for her confidence and her nerves. The troll just had this way about him.
"But I thought -" She stopped before she shook her head. "You didn't have to do that."
