"I think I could see you being a pediatrician." she said.
She had forgone any more talk on Namine's father. Talking about him was only a waste of air in Aqua's opinion. There were far better things to discuss. His care for children was as clear as day. He was moved to random acts of kindness for them and while Namine might not have been a child, she was certainly small and mild mannered enough to remind him of one. Omar was just one of those people that Aqua knew cared. Getting to know him more, she realized he was far more open hearted than she thought.
Omar's poem reminded her of the second one - about life. Except his was far more hopeful. She was supposed to be starting over as well. With Terra gone, she had no reason to linger in the past. And yet, it was a slow going process. Maybe it was inspired by the fact that Omar had his daughter - Jane - back from all the years they spent separated. Or Namine moving forward with Omar's assistance.
"That was very good," she complimented when Omar came back to his seat.

He smiled. "Yea? I'd like to see sick kids smile. Give them something to laugh about again. That would be the best part of it I think" Brightening their day would be good. Omar smiled as people clapped politely for him as he finished his poem, which he had made up as he went along, and sat back down across from Aqua. He winked at her. "Flattery gets you everywhere" he teased with a smirk.

"Yeah," Aqua agreed softly. "That is a good part of the job."
Her job wasn't always like that. She would deal with kids in horrible situations. Or like the kids targeted by the La Llorona killer, who had their lives cut short before they could truly live. She didn't get to see that cheer. Her job was difficult on her and it wore on her at times. She wanted to believe she was making a difference by doing what she was doing. There were times when she just didn't know what to do.
She had to fight back a blush. She had complimented him but he had just turned it around with ease. Mouth going dry she quickly wet it with her drink. She wasn't used to that. Omar was clearly flirting, but there was no way he was serious about it. He had just said that faeries were awful to him. She was just reading things that weren't there. Probably her own desperation for interaction with someone after the funeral.
"I'm sure you hear that all the time." she dismissed.

"I don't know how long I could watch kids get really sick though. Or tell the parents bad news if it came to that. But I'd love to work with children for a while. As a doctor or something else, I'd love to just...be there for them" he smiled when she blushed and almost reached over to take her hand, but resisted. She'd probably think he was acting weird. "Not really. I usually get 'rotten troll'" He chuckled and shook his head. "Even the BPD has ideas about trolls. According to Shadow there's been an issue with alligator fighting"

"With good comes bad, I suppose. The job can't be good all the time," she mused.
There were times when her own job pushed her, hurt her, cut her deeper than any physical wound ever could. And other times still where she was glad to be doing what she was doing. Those moments made her feel like she had really made a difference and those were the best moments in the world. They were starting to become fewer and far between.
"As in trolls fighting the alligators or trolls having alligators fight each other?" Aqua asked.
To be fair, Omar was the type of guy to pick a fight with a demon. Wrestling an alligator wouldn't be that much different. Minus the whole demonic possession and shadows.

"No I suppose not. I wish it could be though. It's why I like music so much. Yea it's hard but it's like 90% good" he smiled and looked Aqua up and down. "Bet you'd have a good voice. You should join me onstage sometime. We can be bards together" he laughed and waved a hand. "Joking, joking. Not about your voice but I don't know if you'd ever deign to step on stage with a rabble rouser like me" or a troll. Aqua didn't seem prejudiced against trolls, but you never knew. He chuckled. "Both, I think. I can see true trolls wrestling alligators and ones like me pitting alligators against each other. "I wouldn't do it. Wouldn't be fair to the alligator" his eyes twinkled with mischief and he winked at Aqua.

"I don't know. I haven't sang in years." Aqua said quickly, as if to dismiss the notion. "For all we know, I screech worse than a banshee."
Not since she was a child. And not since her mother was around. That didn't mean she hadn't enjoyed music in that time. She enjoyed music immensely. She had gone to the bar on a night when a bad would be playing after all. She just hadn't known it would be Omar's band. Music had just been something that Aqua associated with her mother. It didn't feel the same to sing alone. She didn't have anyone else to sing with besides that. Omar's offer was sweet. Another thoughtful thing about him. But she didn't want to intrude on his livelihood. It was, after all, how he made his money.
"You're terrible!" She proclaimed but there was no venom behind her words, just barely restrained laughter. "You leave those poor alligators alone."
There was nothing 'poor' about alligators. They were a problem from time to time. They still lived in the area, despite the fact that humans had moved in. There had been more than once the Others Unit had been called in to deal with a gator that was floating in someone's swimming pool or terrorizing the neighborhood. Luckily no one had ever reported a pet being eaten by one or those calls might have been some of Aqua's last gator relocation attempts.

"A little practice, some lessons and an injection of self-confidence and you'd be great" he said. The poetry slam was nearing to a close and Omar focused on eating his sandwich so they could leave before the placed closed. He choked on a bite in laughter and swallowed before grinning at her. "The alligators started it! Besides, Trolls hunt for food. we're also a playful sort. Who cares if we play with our food if we still eat it?" He laughed at her and shook his head. "Sorry darlin. I'll continue starting fights till the day I die. It's who I am"

"Maybe." Aqua said. "But no promises."
She had finished up the last of her food. Things were winding down. She would be the first to admit, that she had actually really enjoyed herself with Omar. He was fun and he made her laugh. He didn't focus on what happened with Terra, but he had shared his condolences. Because he knew how she felt. He had been himself the whole night. He hadn't tried to pretend. His honesty was refreshing as was his look on life.
"Of course you eat them." she cried in disbelief, except she was laughing.
People ate alligator all the time. It had a strange taste to it, she thought. Though she actually liked it. It was a bit chewy and tourists always claimed it tasted like chicken. Not everything tasted like chicken of course. Aqua could only describe the taste as alligator. But as long as Omar didn't waste what he hunted. Plus, people hunted alligator all the time. She might just want to make sure Omar had a license to hunt so he didn't get in trouble.
"As long as you don't get hurt. You've got people who need you." she said. "Like Jane and Namine."

"I'll keep the flame of hope burning then" he smirked and shrugged. Maybe was almost as good as a yes. And this date had gone really well. She'd enjoyed his jokes, seemed to like his stories, and was good company. And he was happy that she had been able to forget about the funeral for a little while. There was nothing better for healing than forgetting about the wound and letting it close naturally on it's own. "People eat alligators. I just kill mine with bare hands first" he laughed with her. "Worried about me? I'm flattered. But don't worry, it takes more than an alligator to take care of me"

Aqua had to fight back a blush. Flame of hope? She certainly didn't see herself as anything special to sing with. But if she recalled right, her mother did sing better when her father joined. But that was because she had a partner. Or at least that's what Aqua believed. She didn't think she would be the singing partner that Omar was looking for. He would likely end up singing duets with Jane or maybe one day (if Namine's nerve improved) Namine.
"I - just don't want to tell Namine you got eaten by an alligator because you got hungry!" she protested.

"You're a sweetheart but I'll be fine. I've done this too long. I know how to be careful" He sighed dramatically and rolled his head back to stare at the ceiling. "But if it's going to worry you I'll not go alligator hunting. I'll just get my meat from the deli" He looked back at her and winked. "Well. That was fun. But I suppose it's time to draw this night to a close..." he said reluctantly. "I'll go hail a taxi"

"But if you enjoy hunting, don't stop because of me!" Aqua protested.
Sure didn't think gator hunting was safe, but if that's what Omar liked to eat... Plus, any deli nearby would have charged an arm and a leg for the meat because it was dangerous work. She could no more tell him to stop hunting than he could tell her not to fly. She gave him a smile. She didn't know why he would be so concerned about what she thought about his hunting. She was just the faery housing his daughter. No one special. He had to eat but he would give up hunting just because she was worried about his safety. That was odd.
"Oh..." she murmured. So soon? "I guess time flies..."

"Nah. Crocodile is for special occasions and is a hassle to gut, clean, de-bone and skin. I can live without hunting it" He moved to get up, popping the last bite of sandwich in his mouth as he did so. She seemed just as disappointed as he was. "Miss me already sweetie? We can do this again if you want. It went so well anyway, why not?" He moved towards the door, intending to go out and hail a taxi and come in to get Aqua, so she wouldn't have to stand in the cold.

"If... you say so?" she said.
She didn't know what hunting entailed. She never hunted in her entire life. She didn't do a lot of things other faeries did. It could have been because she had been in a human community for so long, she forgot what it meant to be fey? But with Omar, she didn't really mind all that much. He didn't judge her as human or as faery, even if he thought that she would have had some sort of superiority complex.
"I... wouldn't mind actually." she said softly.
It was nice being around Omar. Maybe because he could relate to her situation, but because he made her forget, if only for a little while. This was probably the most she had smiled and laughed since she buried Terra.
