"That it is." he agreed.
He might have added something spiteful about the birthday thing, like 'at least your parents remember yours' or 'at least you get a party' but thought better of it. Just because his father was married to his work doesn't mean he should take it out on everyone. He was glad that Weiss' parents at least did that, even though it was mostly for show. They invited a lot of people as a show of wealth and power. Adrien always wondered why his father never did that but then remembered how his father hated a lot of people. Probably best not to have the least social man in the entire city around a big group of people. Someone was likely to get sued.
"It's only a good party if there's a cake taller than you are." he teased.

Weiss gave a little laugh. "I'll be sure to get some extra icing on it. I mean, if everyone's going to be breaking whatever diet they're on, might as well go all out, you know?" She knew Adrien wasn't the only one on a diet. Her mom was always on whatever fad diet was popular. It seemed like she constantly worried about her figure, which Weiss saw as dumb. Having a nice-looking body wasn't going to hide the scar on her face. Then again, maybe that was why her mom obsessed over stuff like that. If she looked nice everywhere else, maybe people would forget her scar. Weiss doubted anyone would though. People might not point it out so much, but it still drew attention from newcomers. Weiss knew this first-hand. The people she knew didn't mind her scar so much, but any strangers she met certainly did a double-take upon seeing it. Besides, she had a feeling the people she knew still talked about it anyway behind her back, probably still wondering what possessed a LaFayette to take on a demon like Thrax. It was the nature of people in this social circle. They always found something to gossip about.

"Oh I'm looking forward to it already," Adrien chuckled.
Seems like Yang wasn't the only one to play at the 'diet breaking train'. Not that Adrien minded one bit. He would gorge himself on bad foods if he could. Ruin his diet, wreck his image. Just thinking about it made him crave a melty cheeseburger with fries something fierce. He almost laughed. How pathetic he was. One mention of bad foods and he was almost drooling. Thank goodness for the cookies the kitchen made supplied them. He delicately picked one up, trying not to show how overly eager he was for something heavy in carbs and sweet.

Weiss laughed again. This felt nice, just relaxing with a friend for a little while. She had been tense for a while, ever since Elsa had somewhat sensed her shadow spirits. Granted, she hadn't seen them directly, but she had gotten the feeling of being watched. It had made Weiss paranoid for a little while, and only her shadow spirits could reassure her, saying that they just needed to be more careful. Some might call Weiss's precautions paranoia by this point, but she didn't see it that way. She just saw it as protecting her shadow spirits, while they protected her in return. "Well, hopefully, someone has fun at it," she said. "Maybe some people's spirits will get perked up a bit at this party." She remembered Omar commenting how maybe she should just do her own thing, rather than host a party she wasn't really going to have fun at. But that was impractical advise, in her mind. Having a party this way was what was expected of her, from her parents and the people around her. Going against the grain would just create more trouble.

"You're going to have fun too," Adrien reassured her.
He wanted Weiss to have fun. They both knew she needed it. Probably more than he needed to because he could at least find a way out of his father's house to do the whole 'Chat Noir' thing, but she was stuck in that house with those people. Their parents were some of the least fun inclined people on the face of the earth. It was a wonder that they had grown up the way they had and weren't as rotten as their parents were. She barely laughed and barely smiled as it was so each time she did, Adrien counted it as a victory. No matter how small. He paused and thought about what he could do to make her evening a good one.
"You'll save me a dance?"

"Hopefully, if you and Elsa are there," Weiss said. The night wouldn't be a complete bore if she had her friends. Of course, she did have friends she wanted to invite, but probably couldn't. Her parents would never approve of it. Anna, Aqua, they'd never make it past the front door. However, she did give a little smile at the mention of dancing. "Sure. That sounds nice," she said. Dancing was something she actually enjoyed doing, although that and her music had taken a backseat for a while. Most of her time now was focused on fencing and voodoo, the two things she felt like she could become strongest with. She couldn't exactly protect herself with dance moves.

"I'll be there for sure. I'll have my calendar cleared for it."
Wouldn't be hard if he told his father's assistant who it was for. It looked good if an Agreste was at a Lafayette party, especially if the media caught wind of the event. He just wanted to be there for his friend and make sure her birthday was a good one. He was going to have to start looking for a gift. It was normally left to his father's assistant but this year, he wanted things to be different, even if he didn't know what to get a gift for a girl who was his best friend? He would figure it out. Not like he didn't have more than enough money to cover the expense.
"And if you need a dress, let me know, I can talk to Natalie about letting you get some of father's newest designs." he offered.

Weiss gave a smile. "I actually think that's something Mom and I would both like," she said. "She's always been a fan of trendsetting. I wear something of your dad's and everyone will be scrambling to buy it the next day." Mr. Agreste did tend to churn out pretty nice-looking clothes, and Weiss could still enjoy getting a new dress. And if her Mom approved of the idea, then it was practically a win-win situation. The LaFayettes were pretty high up, but the Agrestes were even higher, high enough where the two families weren't really competing against each other. Instead, the LaFayettes took any opportunity they could to gain the Agrestes' favor, whether it was with inviting them to parties, promoting some new fashions, or even proposing some joint business ventures. Weiss wasn't sure how that last thing would work out. Voodoo and fashion didn't really go together. But, if anyone could find a way, it was her dad.

"I'll have Natalie set up something for you both."
A mother and daughter thing might be nice. Something private so they could just be together before the big party. It wasn't hard for Adrien to guess an approximate size for Weiss. He had been in the fashion industry long enough to pick a few things up. He would also have to make sure there were things with Weiss' preferred colors - blues, greys, whites and purples. Anything neon was a no go. It almost screamed for Weiss to beat him if he even suggested it. Besides, Adrien liked helping. If he could take one little thing off of Weiss' plate for this prep then he was happy to do it. Even though, dress making wasn't something he did. He could have his father's tailors do it.

"Thanks." Weiss smiled again. Adrien seemed so eager to help in some way, she might as well let him. If helping her in little ways made him happy, then so be it. Still, she sometimes felt like she didn't deserve having a friend like him. Adrien was a genuinely nice person, and would probably help even more if his father wasn't such a sourpuss. Weiss, on the other hand, was still debating whether she was a good person or not. It seemed like she was doing shadier things every day. Summoning her dark spirits, keeping them a secret from everyone, delving into dark voodoo when she wasn't supposed to. Then again, how defined was the line between good and bad? Weiss felt like it was getting blurrier all the time. After all, no evil person really thought themselves as evil. They'd find any reason to justify their actions. It was other people that deemed their actions evil or not. She glanced at Adrien, wondering if she could ask him what he thought about the issue without it seeming too weird. Weiss wasn't a very philosophical person, but questions like these had been in her head for a long time. Maybe she should get an outside opinion. "Adrien..." She paused for a moment before continuing. "Do you think good and bad is simple to define?"

Adrien finished the last of his tea when Weiss asked her question. Good and bad being simple? He couldn't help but chuckle. No. Good and bad were not clean cut things. Take Chat Noir for example - the gentleman thief or so Adrien tried to make him out to be. He was polite, kind and he gave to the people who truly deserved it. He helped the police. He fed the homeless. He clothed the low income families. At the same time, Chat was vengeful and he was stealing - breaking the law. He was hunting down Cinder and Thrax like a man on a mission. Because they had hurt Yang. His determination was nearly all consuming.
"Hardly." he said, trying to contain his mirth. "People have different ideas of good and bad, right?"
He didn't want to point out Weiss' own family example. Her family thought Riku being a cop was bad and shameful to the family name. Riku, on the other hand, believed in what he was doing and stuck by it. He didn't want to pick at that emotional scar. It wouldn't make his point since she would get so emotional about it. It was still a sore topic after all. So he put his teacup in the palm of his hand. One finger lightly touched the rim of the cup. Slowly, the cup started to disintegrate in his hands, until he was left holding ashes instead of a tea cup. Not like his father bought nice tea cups. The servant had brought out a cheap set anyways. It was strange to show her that. No one knew he could do that. Not even his own father. Not even the media. Not even Yang.
"I can destroy things by touching them," he said, "Still think I'm a good guy, despite that?"
Destruction normally meant bad things. It took some time to learn to control it. Luckily, he practiced on rocks and twigs when he was a kid. Adults wrote it off as childish behavior. No one missed rocks and twigs. Sometimes, when he was emotional, he worried about touching people, but had yet to have any incident.

Frankly, Weiss was relieved enough when Adrien said good and bad was hardly a black and white sort of thing. She felt like that made her feel a little better about her own actions. Studying dark voodoo may seem bad to most people, but she wasn't doing it to hurt people. She just wanted to protect herself. She didn't want to get hurt again. However, Adrien proved his point further by making the tea cup in his hand disintegrate into a pile of ashes. Weiss's eyes widened. She had no idea Adrien had a power like that. And his dad had never said anything about it either. Did he know? Did anybody know? She glanced up when Adrien asked if he was still good, despite his power, and Weiss nodded. Of course he was. She didn't doubt that for an instant. Then she asked "How long have you been able to do that?"

"Since I was a little kid... About when my mom left I suppose." he said. "Father doesn't know. You know how he is about Others."
He must have at least been five or six. It was hard to remember exactly when it happened. The first few times it had happened he had been confused and terrified. He wanted to go to his father, but the man had already expressed his hatred for anyone 'different' on more than one occasion. Ranting and screaming, but now the man barely reacted to anything with anything aside from disdainful indifference. So the little boy stayed quiet about it - in fear that his father would hate him too. Now he was older, he barely cared what his father thought because he was certain his father barely thought of him. Adrien dumped the ashes on the little saucer and dusted his hands of the remnants.
"Why the question, Weiss?" he asked. "What brought this up?"

"Jeez..." Weiss couldn't imagine keeping her powers a secret from someone. They were such an important part of who she was. Her whole identify was practically centered around the fact that she was a witch doctor. Her future depended on it. If she couldn't be a witch doctor, what else was there? However, Adrien asked why she brought up her question in the first place, and she wasn't sure how to answer. Part of her was tempted to tell him about her shadow spirits, how spending time with them seemed to blur the line between good and bad every day. If Adrien trusted her enough to show his powers, could she do the same? Part of her was still hesitant though. Adrien seemed to think she was a decent person, trapped like a bird in a cage because of her parents. Would that change, if he knew what she was capable of? How nasty she could really be? She couldn't bring herself to tell him. Instead, she just replied with "Just...something that's been on my mind lately. "I mean, what's good or bad seems to be challenged all the time." Thrax was probably giving demons a bad rap, despite at least one being on the BPD Others Unit. Frollo had always fought in the name of justice, yet he had turned out to be just as corrupt as the people he hated. How could somebody define good and evil when things like that existed?

"I guess... what's important is what choices you make." Adrien mused.
This had certainly gotten rather philosophical. However, Weiss didn't want to talk about it. He certainly couldn't force her. He had no backbone when it came to his friends, he supposed. He wanted them to be happy. It's probably why he tried so hard. He sighed but found himself smiling, nevertheless. He was behind the firm choice that your choices made up who you were. Not what others thought of you. Part of the reason why Chat Noir broke the law. He was doing the right thing by giving information to the police and leading them the right direction from time to time. He did morally ambiguous things all the time. Weiss didn't have to know that though.
