Weiss felt like she was starting to get this habit down. Her parents seemed a little bit happier when she socialized with people every so often instead of holing herself up in her room with her voodoo books all day. So, whenever she noticed them starting to shift into a foul mood, she made plans to visit a friend. Today, she was visiting Adrien, who she hadn't seen in a while. Their busy lives tended to keep them apart most days. As always, her shadow spirits weren't too far away, but they'd probably stay outside the house instead of following her directly inside. Staying outside would allow them a smaller chance of being seen. Weiss felt like she was finally starting to get used to them, maybe even comfortable with them. Half the time, she preferred their company over the people around her. They had been talking with her a lot lately, reminding her that they would always be there for her, that they would never abandon her, like so many other people in her life. It was something they repeated to her often, almost like a catchphrase. But, for the moment, she put thoughts of them out of her mind as she ran the doorbell.

Adrien just happened to be walking past the front door when the bell rang. After another modeling gig, meant to tire him out so he didn't have energy to go out into the city with the 'common folk' he had just wanted to go to his room and sleep. But the doorbell stopped him in his tracks. He looked around, making sure his father wouldn't be around to scold him if he answered it before opening the door. How scandalous it would be if the newspapers caught wind that Adrien Agreste answered his door like a 'commoner'. That alone would have made the young model laugh. A smile lit up his face when he saw who it was.
"Weiss!" he cried. "Come in!"

Weiss was pleasantly surprised to see Adrien answer the door himself. Were none of the servants around? Or maybe he liked doing it himself when he could. Weiss may have taken to depending on servants like her parents had, but Adrien hadn't. It wasn't that she liked bossing people around, it was just what was expected of her. Still, seeing him smile made her smile in return. Adrien could be so gloomy sometimes, so it was nice to celebrate those moments when he was actually happy for once. "Hey, nice to see you," she said as she stepped inside. "Hope you don't mind me dropping in. Figured I'd visit before my mom starts complaining about me being a recluse again."

"No, not at all."
He was actually delighted to have company. He didn't get many visitors. Not like his father would care for the company he had kept in his extracurricular activities. Weiss was someone his father wouldn't chase out the door. Mostly because family image between the LaFayettes and Agrestes were so important to keep up. Adrien was sincerely glad that Weiss was a levelheaded young woman. She had proven to be a good friend.
"Would you like some tea? I could have some put on?"

"Tea sounds great," Weiss said as she ran a hand through her hair. She felt like she was drinking a lot of it lately, mainly because of her hanging out with friends a lot lately. Still, it was a nice break from the coffee she usually drank to give herself a kick so she could get more voodoo work done. She felt like there was a lot she had to do and not much time to do it in. There were a lot mysteries to be solved regarding her shadow spirits and dark voodoo magic, and she wanted to solve them as quickly as possible. She felt like the sooner she got to the bottom of everything, the sooner she could use her shadow spirits to her advantage and become the powerful voodoo queen she always wanted to be.

Adrien smiled. He closed the front door and motioned for her to follow him into one of the parlors where his father often entertained guests. Along the way, he passed a servant, asking them to bring refreshments and sweets to the parlor. It wasn't entirely selfless. When he had guests, it was one of the few times Adrien could have sweets as well. So if Weiss didn't eat them, he knew he would. He opened the door to the parlor, motioning for Weiss to go first, as was polite/ingrained in him to do.
"How have you been?" he asked.

Weiss followed Adrien inside. Really, it was a shame Mr. Agreste didn't throw parties here that much. People were usually astounded by how grand Weiss's house was. If they ever set foot inside Adrien's, they'd probably lose their minds. But. Mr. Agreste was wealthy enough where he could still be a social recluse and still gain respect from the public. Weiss was sure her parents wished they could do that. Then again, maybe they'd miss flaunting their wealth and prestige in front of other people. It made them feel good. For a long time, it made Wiess feel the same. But recently, she was finding other things more important. She sat down in a cushy chair, ankles neatly crossing as Adrien asked how she was doing. "Doing okay. People aren't staring at the scar as much as they used to." In a way, that was true. The people around her were getting accustomed to it. Really, it was a part of her as much as her mother's scar was a part of hers. People sometimes commented how they matched. Weiss knew they meant it was a compliment, but that didn't mean her stomach didn't churn whenever she heard it. Her scar brought up memories she didn't want running through her head, and she was sure her mother felt the same.

"It adds character."
Although, in Adrien's line of work, a scar like that could either make or break his career. Some girls would probably like it if he had one. It would make him look 'tough'. The type of guy to fight someone for their affections or so their daydreams would go. Others still might argue that makes him combative and they wouldn't want their daughters reading up or following a hooligan like that. But Weiss was beautiful. He wasn't just saying that because he was 'supposed' to like her. He was around beautiful people day in and day out so he could say it without being bias. She was pretty scar or no scar.
"Father put me on lockdown after the riots. I had been out in the city and got punched by someone. Black eyes don't sell photos." he laughed.
Actually, Yang punched him. It swelled up something fierce but honestly, he felt he deserved it after how he treated her. The bruise healed, as they typically do. He would have no vision damage and no concussion. Adrien was almost thankful. The 'injury' gave him a break from his work for a little while, even if he had been on house arrest. He also had Weiss to thank for saving Yang's life. If Weiss hadn't been there, Adrien would have lost Yang that night. It was a thought that made him sick to his stomach.

Weiss gave a little chuckle. "Some have even called it badass," she said. That was what Wally had said, when they had first met. He had even gone so far as to say it made her look like a warrior princess. Weiss wasn't sure if that was an image she wanted to have, but she had accepted the compliment nevertheless. Of course, from what Adrien said, she hadn't been the only person to get bashed around during the prison break. Still, at least a black eye went away eventually, although she imagined Adrien's father hadn't been terribly happy about that. Models had to have perfect bodies after all, and Adrien couldn't stray far from that perfect image, otherwise his fanbase would die out. In a way, Weiss's life was the same. If she strayed too far from the LaFayette image, she was punished for it, just like Riku had been. "Well, at least everyone's moving on," she said. "The city seems to have picked itself back up. It's almost like it never happened." Of course, that wasn't entirely true. Buildings may have been reconstructed, but the jail break had left scars in everyone's minds. It'd take them a while to truly relax again. Still, they were at least taking steps in the right direction. In a way, Weiss throwing herself into her voodoo studies and talking with her shadow spirits was her way of coping. If she ever ran into somebody like Thrax again, she wanted to be prepared. She had to be vigilant and always be ready to fight. Whether this was a healthy way of coping or not remained to be seen.

"I could see that," he replied.
It wasn't the behavior of a 'gentleman' to outright say a scar was badass. It showed what Weiss was willing to do to save someone and for that, Adrien found he was even more thankful that they were friends. She had saved someone very important to him and didn't even know it. He would never be able to thank her outright. But he would do little things to try to make sure she was happy.
"Maybe not completely recovered, but making progress." he said.
Yang was far from recovered. Shadow was still aching. Weiss might have been acting nonchalant but you didn't walk out of a fight with a demon without some sort of emotional tearing. A servant came in, bringing in a tray of sweets and a pot of tea. Adrien smiled and poured them both a cup. It seemed he was doing a lot of listening recently. He listened to Yang and Shadow, now it seemed he was Weiss' supposed 'agony aunt' or would the term be uncle since he was a guy?

"I don't know if I could do fighting for the rest of my life though," Weiss said as she took her tea cup and sipped from it. "I mean, fencing is fun and it's good to know some self-defense spells. But I don't think I could ever be like the cops out there, fighting bad guys all the time." Fighting against Thrax was good enough for her, and all her voodoo work now was making sure that she was powerful enough to protect herself if he or anyone else threatening tried to hurt her. That's what she felt like it was all for. Her shadow spirits had even said as much. They wanted to protect her, and she was going to use them for that. She was quiet for a moment before she said "Then again, I don't know if it could ever fully recover. I mean, even before the jail break, we had criminals running around and stuff." It seemed like stuff like that would always happen in Bellerouge. Was there really a point in trying to clean up a city that kept getting messy every time you looked away? She shook the thought away, trying not to feel so pessimistic. She had to have at least a little hope for the future. After all, she was going to be the voodoo queen in this city, and she didn't want to live anywhere else.

"You don't have to be like them." Adrien said. "A life of action isn't for everyone."
She had done some very impressive fighting, but she was right. That sort of life didn't suit her. She wasn't much of a fighter. She would fight, however, if she needed to. Someone's life had been on the line and she had just been stalling. If only Thrax had been caught. As things were, he was happy that no one had gotten killed in the ordeal. He didn't know how he would have made it through if both Weiss and Yang were killed and he was across the city fighting other criminals.
"It was... tough then and even more difficult now. There's always going to be bad guys out there."

"Yeah, I guess so," was all Weiss said in reply. For the longest time, she had thought Riku would be like her, take on a voodoo life and be another witch doctor. But he had ended up choosing to fight crime, and he was well suited for that life. He had found where he belonged. Weiss wasn't sure if she belonged anywhere. She felt out of place lately, among her parents' social circle. But the idea of leaving them still made her nervous. This life was all she knew. How could she do anything else? The prospect of being the next voodoo queen still hung over her head, and she was reluctant to let that dream go. It could give her everything she ever wanted. She couldn't just throw it away. "You think we'd have come up with a way to get rid of them all by now," she said. "But I guess that's a silly thought. Can't have light without the dark, right?" Evil would always exist, in some regard. That was pretty much Magic 101. Light couldn't exist without dark, and vice versa. Of course, everyone around Weiss advised against becoming a dark witch doctor, that only trouble and misfortune came out of it. Weiss felt like it wasn't that black and white. Her shadow spirits were dark creatures, but they cared about her, and she was coming to rely on them. Was that really so wrong?

"Yeah, well, I guess you can't have everything good all the time. It'd get kind of boring if everything always went your way, right?"
Without a few bad moments, you would never know to be happy for the good ones. Because all of them would be good. You would just expect it to be good all the time. Adrien had learned that. It wasn't a happy lesson, but he had come to enjoy things as they were. He hoped Weiss could do the same. He knew things weren't easy for her. Her parents were controlling in the same way his father was all but non-existent in his life. Money buys happiness indeed. He would laugh at the first person who said that one to him. And probably regret it.
"How have you been otherwise?"

"Yeah, I guess that's part of life," Weiss said. It wasn't like she was the only one who had problems. She just hoped that becoming the voodoo queen could get rid of a lot of them. She wouldn't be bossed around by her parents anymore if she was the head honcho, right? Regardless, Adrien asked how she was doing and she figured it was time to change the subject. She couldn't talk about such gloomy things all the time with her friends. They'd start thinking she was acting weird. Of course, if they knew the work she was doing with her shadow spirits, her talking about gloomy stuff would be the least of their problems. She still didn't know how to tell people about them. She just kept telling herself that she'd know when the right time came along. Of course, who knew when that would be. "Okay, I suppose," she said. "Mom and Dad are already getting my birthday party plans underway. You'd think with how much planning they put into these things, they were running a country or something." Her mom liked everything to be perfect, and her dad wanted to make sure no unapproved guests showed up. Weiss found it all tiresome. Really, the only perks were inviting Elsa and Adrien. They were the only people that could make the thing more bearable.
