"I guess..." Weiss wondered if she was making good choices lately though. She was choosing to stay with her parents, despite everyone telling her that it was best to leave them. She was choosing to keep her shadow spirits a secret, which would only make things worse when she revealed them later. What did that say about her? She wasn't sure what to do, or how to make herself feel any better about the decisions she was making. It seemed like these days, her shadow spirits were the only ones assuring her that she was doing the right thing. They seemed like the only ones who understood what she was doing, and why.

"Is... everything okay?" he asked.
She didn't seem convinced by his answers. He wasn't sure what sort of a response she was looking for, or if he could even give it to her. She seemed to have a lot on her mind, things she didn't want to talk about, things he wouldn't force her to talk about. At the same time, she did get a little off her chest. Something about good and evil. Being concerned about it. Thrax perhaps? He wondered if her parents lectured her for saving the life of the 'common' girl by fighting off against the demon. Their family would have been damaged past salvation if anything happened to her. No heir to take over since they disowned Riku. Adrien was surprised she hadn't become some sort of bubble girl or locked away in a tower somewhere to protect the future of the LaFayettes.

Weiss bit her lip, wondering if she could talk about anything that was on her mind. Her shadow spirits, her parents, Riku. Well, Riku and her parents were sort of lumped together at this point. Maybe that was sort of safe to talk about. "I met with Riku a while back," she said. "Him and his partner, Aqua. They...want me to move out. Like, they want to get a case together and have me legally live with Riku instead of them." She let out a breath. "It's...sort of overwhelming." Part of her was afraid of whether they would succeed at all. Her parents would fight tooth and nail to keep her around. They already disowned one kid. Weiss was their only shiny new toy left they could show off to others. And then the other part of her worried about what might happen if Riku and Aqua did succeed. Would she even have a chance of becoming the voodoo queen? Riku thought she might, but Weiss wasn't sure if she wanted to take that chance.

"Wow... That's... that's a lot to take in." he said.
Not so eloquently put, but it was overwhelming. A lot to be thrown at Weiss at once, especially after the harrowing ordeal she had gone through. But it made him wonder, she had been offered a way out. Would she take it? She had her own goals, but did that mean she had to stay in that unhappy home? He couldn't offer to let her stay at the Agreste manor. It would have been in the tabloids the instant he did. He couldn't offer her protection from her parents. But did she need it? Did she want it?
"Do you want to leave your parents' place?" he asked.

Weiss sighed again. "That's just it. I...I don't know." She sipped from her tea cup as she tried to gather her thoughts. "Everyone thinks it would be good for me. And...you know I'm not exactly very fond of them. But...I want to be the voodoo queen. With my parents disowning Riku, I have a pretty good shot at it. But if I leave my parents, it might as well be impossible. I've worked towards getting that position for so long...I feel like I can't just throw it away. And if I'm the voodoo queen, then my parents can't boss me around anymore. I'll be in charge and I"ll get to do things my way." That was really what she wanted. She didn't want to be some porcelain doll put on display anymore. She wanted to be in charge of herself. And with all the power that being voodoo queen brought, nobody would ever control her again.

"Why can't you do both?" he asked. "You could still try to be the voodoo queen and get away from them if that's what you want."
Then they really couldn't tell her what to do. Ironic that he was the one telling Weiss to follow her heart. He should take his own advice. He was old enough to live on his own. He didn't have to stay in this enormous manor with only the servants for company. But at the same time, it was in the manor he felt the closest to his mother. His father was never home anyways. So it was like had the whole place to himself. Getting his own place seemed like waste of money. Not to mention, he would have to hire extra security and then background checks. It was a mess.

Weiss shook her head. "They'd never let me. If I left...I might as well be dead to them. That's how they think of Riku. They hardly talk about him and when they do, it's always with hatred." Her hands tightened around her tea cup. "A life like this...it's all I know. How can I do anything else?" That was the other scary part. Living this way, being the center of attention, having anything she wanted at the tip of her fingers, it was how she was raised. Living any other way was practically foreign to her. Could she live that way? She knew Riku could, but he was different. He'd always been different from their parents. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. Weiss, on the other hand, could count plenty of times when she had acted exactly like her mom and dad. She'd snapped at the servants before, hadn't hung out with someone because they weren't like her, had used her last name to make things go her way. It was the debate that raged in the back of her mind constantly. Was she a good person because of the shadow spirits she had summoned, because of the dark voodoo magic she was studying? Riku didn't need somebody like that in his world.

"They can't stop you from becoming the Voodoo Queen. Isn't it your blood right or something? What are they going to do, have another kid?" he asked.
As far as Adrien knew, royal lines were familial. It wasn't like there was another person with a stake to the Voodoo throne. Unless there was and the public didn't know it? The LaFayettes had that corner squared away. Even then, the current king or queen, if there was one wasn't going to live forever. Unless that was a side effect. Adrien shook his head. He hadn't gotten to know the Voodoo side of things. His father hadn't let him. He hadn't wanted Adrien getting ideas about magic. He would't stand for it.
"But not knowing what you're going to do is an adventure."
Every day of his life was planned. From the moment he got up, to the things he ate or wore, to the people he talked to. Weiss' surprise visit aside. He liked surprises. He probably liked them more than the average person. But he also enjoyed keeping things simple and just experiencing things he didn't normally get to have.

"They'll pick someone else, I'm sure," Weiss said. "Any of their voodoo associates. If they think they'd do a better job being in charge than me, they'll go for it." After all, they hadn't thought too hard about booting Riku out of the position and placing all their hopes on Weiss. If she left, they'd just do the same thing. Weiss couldn't lose this opportunity, not when she had already put so much work towards it. "I can't just leave voodoo behind," she said. "It's part of who I am. I like it. If I leave, what else can I do with it?" Any other witch doctor around here found it hard to make a business when her parents' company loomed over their heads. They didn't like competition, and usually squashed it pretty quickly.

"Why do they get to pick the Queen?" Adrien asked. "Shouldn't it be by ability? No one knows voodoo like you do."
He offered her a smile. He thought it impossible to replace someone like Weiss with anyone. Even the people who had small practices for the art, weren't as good as anyone in the LaFayette family, which was why the police office was doing so well on horrific cases involving voodoo practices, because they had Riku. Weiss knew her stuff just as well, if not better. Still, she knew more about the inheritance that was the title of the voodoo queen than he did. If that was her goal, he would do what he could to support her.
"You can still like voodoo and not do it for a career. But if you want to be the Queen, let me know what I can do to help."

"They have the most influence though. That's the problem," Weiss said. "I mean, they're the leaders of the voodoo community around here. Not to mention, we come from a long line of great witch doctors. voodoo's practically in our blood. Nobody else around here can really claim that." She sipped her tea. "Being the best at voodoo isn't the only factor. It's who you know, what kind of ideas you have. It's practically like politics." If Weiss left, she'd just alienate her biggest influence into becoming voodoo queen. And she could forget getting help from anyone else in her parents' social circle. If they helped her behind her parents' back, they'd flip out. Nobody wanted to get on their bad side. Adrien offered his support though, and wanted to help however he could. Weiss figured she'd just have to take that and be grateful. He may not understand why she wanted to stay with her parents, but at least he supported her goals. "Thanks. That means a lot."

"I play a fair share of politics in fashion. It's not exactly a kind industry."
It was cut throat and cruel. Models were tossed aside for injuries, scars, tattoos, age, body shape. It was a wonder he hadn't gotten some sort of eating complex like some models did. He could only imagine the politics that happened in the voodoo circles. It was probably over his head. But throw enough money at a problem and there was a chance it could be fixed. He could always bribe a few of the officials. Maybe bribe her parents enough to pay them off to get them off her back? He wondered.
"Of course, Weiss, we're friends, aren't we?"

"I bet," Weiss agreed. Granted, most of the behind-the-scenes fashion stuff she saw were shows like America's Next Top Model, but she felt like that fit Adrien's description of the modeling world. She wondered if boys got into cat-fights as much as girls did. It seemed like every other week on America's Next Top Model, girls were fighting or stabbing each other in the back. It made good T.V., although it did remind Weiss of her home life sometimes. People played games like that around her family all the time, trying to gain their favor so they could get a little higher on the social ladder. She gave Adrien a little smile. "Yeah, we're friends." And she was glad to have him around, even if she felt like she didn't deserve him.

"That's good to hear." he said.
He never doubted Weiss. Just her family's intentions for whatever partnership they wanted with the Agreste family, namely the fortune. Any girl who married him would be well off and taken care of. The bank account alone said that. Probably why he had crazed fans who thought they could sway him into marriage if they only got him alone. He never had to fear that Weiss was like those people.
"Here I was starting to think you only kept me around because I was a pretty face." he joked.

Weiss laughed. "Hey, I get the 'pretty face' comment too. At least, I used to." Boys had used that to flatter her on many occasions. Her pale skin, white hair, and blue eyes gave her an almost exotic look. It was a trait that all her family members shared, and it certainly helped them stand out from a crowd. Lately though, any comments about Weiss's appearance tended to do with her scar. She wondered if her mother ever felt like this when it came to her scar. Did people talk about it constantly when she first got it? Weiss felt like they probably did. Heck, they still talked about it sometimes. They were always wondering where exactly she got it from. Her mother always said that it had come from an accident, though she never elaborated more than that. Weiss wondered how people would react if they knew the truth. They'd probably freak out or something, then post it in the newspapers by tomorrow. Family drama did always make interesting news.
