The kids deepened and a gentle hand touched her on the back of her neck. The chill of the dampness surprised her, but it didn’t distract her. She was far too busy enjoying the comfort of her boyfriend. A far more serious one at that. Sunshine had been so engrossed that she hadn’t noticed her hair somehow activating their sun-based powers, the golden glow creating a soft aura.

Riku opened his eyes when things suddenly got brighter and pulled back from the kiss to mutely point at Sunshine's hair, which was glowing brightly. Without her activating it. He grinned. "I think your hair is showing how much you're enjoying today" he said teasingly. "I'm glad I have a tell about how happy you are" he continued and smiled more gently. "Do you want to go back and get something to drink? I have wine for you and sparkling cider for me"

Sunshine pouted as the kiss ended. But the way he was staring at her had been an expression she had seen from other people. It was the wide eyes of shock, but the good news was the shock wasn't fear. He even teased her about her hair, and she glanced at the now unbound locks, which were blowing aside in the 'Rapunzel' length as she called it, noticing the golden yellow light was dying. She must have activated her powers...or maybe they had the mind of their own to light up whenever she was, well...maybe Aqua's research could answer that question. He quickly asked if she needed something to drink. She looked out at the water, a hand still on her hair. "...Yeah. Sure."

He walked back to the place they had set up and quelled any feelings of nervousness he was feeling. He could do this, he had this in the bag. He knelt by the picnic basket and pretended to look for something as Sunshine walked up to him. He pulled the bottles out and then continued looking. Finally he deemed he'd spent enough time 'looking' and leaned back on his heels. "Hey Sun? could you find the bottle opener? I can't seem to find it" the bottle opener with the ring on it for Sunshine. (ring: i.pinimg.com/736x/10/cd/2d/10cd2d411afe24d441b45c108e363a31--rapunzel-ring-disney-rings.jpg )

The sand collected on her wet soles like magnets. As he busied himself with gathering the two drinks - the cider, smart on his part and wine - and she bit back a laugh. How come it was always wine when they did something? He then sat up and asked if she could look for the bottle opener. She nodded, kneeling down to dig through the picnic basket. Bunches of grapes? Nope. Gluten free pumpkin bread? Nope. A jar of quince jam courtesy of Omar? Nope. Finally, the glint of metal caught her eye.
"Okay, Found...whoops!"
Just as Sunshine triumphantly pulled out the requested object, something went flying onto the towels. At first, Sunshine thought it was a screw. But the bottle opener was silver. Why would there be a piece that was gold? She looked closer. It was a small circle, big enough to be fitted on her finger. The center was a lilac stone framed by differently sized rays; a sun motif. She knew the look well; it was the Seddon family crest. She gaped at him wordlessly, her hung open mouth for once quiet.

He bit his lip when she pulled out the ring and it went flying, but luckily it ended up in the towels and was quickly found. He picked it up, moved to kneel on one knee and held it out to her. "Rachel 'Sunshine' Seddon" he started, paused and cleared his throat and tried again. "Sun, will you do me the greatest honor of becoming Rachel Lafayette?" he asked, feeling utterly cowardly in this instance because yes, he'd faced a demon, insane criminals and whatever else, but he'd never had to propose to someone before. And it was utterly cowing. He looked into her beautiful green eyes earnestly. "I...I love you, Sun. And I know this might be going a bit fast, but I know in my heart you're the one for me and...and I would love if you became part of my family"

The beach, the other beachgoers, even the concept of time itself disappeared when Riku picked up the ring. He was kneeling in front of her with the ring, saying her full name. He and the ring were the only things she was looking at. He called her by both her nickname and her real name. He has stumbled and spoke again. He had been so nervous, and it showed her how he felt.
That the kiss when he became human was true. All the times he appreciates her was genuine. The times he looked at her and she had just thought it was something out of a fantasy. The doubts he would ever like a scrubby artist like herself.
He said he loved her, and the tears started flowing. He loved her, he loved her! She wasn’t crying out of sadness, no. It was tears of joy.
“This can’t be real,” amid her sobs, she was smiling. “I’ve had dreams about this my entire,” she hiccuped, “life.” She dried her eyes. “I always looked at you from afar, and I was always so scared to tell you how I felt, now you’re here...and...and yes!” she nodded, “yes I’ll marry you!”

He got up quickly when she started crying and put his arms around her. She seemed utterly blown away and happy despite the tears and that made him happy. And then she said yes and he started crying out of sheer happiness and they were both a mess. He blearily went to look for napkins and gave some to her and took a few for himself and wiped his eyes. "You mean it? You'll really marry me? I just-you're going to be the center of attention by my family and the press should you agree to this" he stated, wanting to let her know up front some of the realities of becoming his wife. "It's going to be hard, and you might be expected to learn some voodoo, by my family because tradition but I won't pressure you, plus your other powers will be scrutinized. Just so you know what you're getting into"

Sunshine was swept into an embrace of vanilla-chamomile. Riku was hugging her, openly crying with joy himself. She understood why; it had been such a difficult few weeks, and the fact something good was happening made him overwhelmed. She took the napkins and dabbed at her eyes, smiling wistfully at his concerns. “I don’t care about the popular crowd’s opinion, I never did. I care about you. That’s why I want to marry you.”

His heart was beating a million miles a minute. "Okay, okay, I'm just-I'm kind of freaking out because my brain just caught up with what I did" he laughed nervously. "But you said yes! You said yes! I can't believe it, Oh gosh" he grinned like a fool. "I'm not worried about the paparazzi, or the hordes of fans of my family, but I am worried about my parents getting back in contact with me and doing everything they can to stop this union" he sighed, feeling a little scared with the excitement suddenly. "To them, you and your family is just the help"

“I’ll have to work hard t get my family to like you then.” The optimism was hidden by her nervousness. The thought of the Lafayette disapproval hit her. Given she had been present during the ball, her family could have been considered bad luck. If they wouldn’t accept her, the Seddons would be there. She shrugged out of her tank, the sun beating on her bikini clad upper half, draped in blonde hair. “If I can be unafraid of the tabloids, so can you.”

"I hope your family likes me, I really like what I've heard of your family" he said. He stared at her as she took off her tank and wore nothing but the bikini on top. He grinned. "I'm used to the tabloids. But I'm just worried how they treat new meat. They'll be going through your background, looking for any weakness to exploit. Probably going to high school friends to see if you were a wild child"

Sunshine looked down at the sand. Compared to the Lafayette’s, the Seddons were cuddly teddy bears. They had asked multiple questions about the time she and him were working together and they knew they were an item. She looked up at him, smiling wistfully,
“It’s pretty obvious what my weaknesses are.”
She brushes a hair from her eyes, looking back at the sea. A wave ebbed and she thought back. High school. Marie Laveau High School. Sunshine didn’t have many friends, usually keeping to herself.
“My high school friends left Bellerouge after graduation. Jack...Merida...Hic...” she sighed. That bashing was painful. “The big four of Marie Laveau. The worst they’d say is that I didn’t party enough...or speak up...”

He smiled back at her equally wistfully. "They're going to find something, or twist something around to fit what they want. Most people are going to know how to tell fact from fiction, but there will be that few that can't. I want you to be prepared for some of the outrageous things that might be said about you" He then broke out in a big grin and gave her a huge hug. "Mrs. Rachel Lafayette" he whispered. "I like the ring of that, don't you?"

Sunshine ducked her eyes down. He was making a good point. People would probably judge her without considering her life. As if being an officer wasn’t enough. Suddenly, she felt a muscular warm hug bring her closer. As he called her Mrs. Lafayette, her cheeks flared. “I won’t lie. I’ll miss the illiteration if Sunshine Seddon, but it does make me sound less British.”
