He laughed. "You're still going to be you no matter what. British sounding name or no" he smiled widely at her and brushed some hair from her face. "By the way, do you mind having our wedding in a voodoo temple? I mean, I practice the religion obviously and I'm not sure if your family has a set religion-forgive me for not asking and possibly stepping on toes-but if you don't mind then can we? It would be really nice, I'd probably have a friend officiate, and I could share the voodoo culture with you"

Sunshine felt his hand brush aside some of her hair, and she blushed brighter. It still was a big rush for her, how someone from such a privileged home could fall for her, a baker slash cop with no wealth to her name? Well, wealth that was in the middle-class field. She looked up at the silver-haired, blue-eyed voodoo leader, listening to his request to marry in a voodoo temple. She pursed her lips. "...Well, it's...better that than a run of the mill church rental, expensive venue, waterfront bullshit weddings," she murmured. Her family had Christian beliefs, but understood that other cultures were celebrated in Bellerouge. Voodoo had been one they were outside-looking-in about. "Sure."

"I mean, if you aren't comfortable with it just say so" he said, extremely anxious. "Or we can compromise and do an in between of voodoo wedding and Christian weddings. I heard people do that" they were going to get married, compromises were part of marriage. He wanted Sunshine to be happy, but he wanted to do what was true to himself too. He hoped she was okay with this. "I mean, this is your wedding too"

“Hmm...well we can have aspects of a traditional wedding, you know vows, rings...but throw in the voodoo touches, like Gris Gris,” she suggested. Some of her studying voodoo cases had pointed her in the direction of things such as healing herbs and rituals seeming more partylike than serene. This would be the perfect meeting point.

"Why don't we make the gris gris for each other? I can teach you" he offered. "It's something my parents did, and I always thought that was romantic, making djinn and demon repelling amulets for their future spouse" He grinned. "This is going to be the most talked about thing in town, mark my word. It'll be nice having something good to talk about for a change. I, uh, probably should have asked your dad before I asked you, that's what Christian practitioners seem to do. Voodoo weddings don't really have that. I want to do this right though..."

Sunshine blushed a deep pink. Making a Gris Gris for someone she had started to fall for, like beyond a crush, was incredibly romantic. She hadn’t been there to save him from Vanitas, she wasn’t going to make that same mistake again. He mentioned her father and she back away, facing the ocean. “By father, you mean John?” Joaquin had disappeared, so there was no way he could have gotten the blessing. There were a few other men who would have gladly given a blessing

She seemed to like the idea of making a gris gris for each other and he was glad. He wanted to share his beliefs with her, and wanted to do something unique and romantic for her, and this was the best way to do it. It doubled as protection on the job and he was glad for it. "I know John's your step-dad" he said quietly. "But I thought he was your only dad right now. Is...your biological father still around? I could have always asked them both, if I had known and thought about it" he wanted to respect both fathers, if he could. But if she just wanted to acknowledge John, he'd comply.

Sunshine shook her head solemnly. "Remember when I showed you his picture and said that was the only thing I had? Well, it's true. I don't know if he's alive or not. Or," her voice cracked, "or if even wanted to be a part of my life." No. She wasn't going to cry on her day off. She took a sigh, and the tears that threatened to well up dried instantly. She turned back to her fiance...wow, calling him that would take some getting used to...and smiled cheekily. "So, if you want to ask John, go for it."

"Yea, I'll ask John. Though the point is moot because you already said yes" he laughed. "It's a good way to get to know your family better, though. I can talk to your step-dad and your mom about this. Perhaps this is a good time to open up communications with my parents too. My mother would be more understanding than father, although father married into the family and took the Lafayette name. He was a Hoodoo Man, actually. But Hoodoo is pretty similar to Voodoo so the change for him wasn't that drastic. I have an uncle and two cousins on my father's side of the family. I'm hoping Ichabod can come to the ceremony, we were always fairly close"

She smiled widely. "Yeah, well, if I don't tell him I've said yes, it'll be a surprise. Plus, makes it nice for both of you to have a clean slate to work on." Her throat seemed to dry up quickly at the thought of meeting his family. She had only met Weiss and hadn't had no time to chat with her since the rescue from Thrax incident. Just thinking of his parents and their intense beliefs in both voodoo and, the ball was dropped here, hoodoo, it began to make her nervous. She took a breath, exhaling in time with a crashing wave.

He hugged her tightly. "Mom I'm not so worried about. Or my cousins or aunt. It's my Father I'm worried about. I wish I could say it won't end in a fight but...it might, it really might. But they deserve to know too so I really hope you don't mind meeting them. I respect my parents to some degree..." he was rambling now and sighed, letting go of her. "Forget it. We'll figure it out. for now, let's just have fun, together. It's a cause for celebration. I mean, you said yes!"

Once again, she was back being hugged by her fiance. Sunshine couldn't stop smiling. She was a bride to be on the verge of getting excited about meeting her future in-laws. She was both dreading and being excited for it. What would the other cops say? What would Shadow say? Would he finally confess what the girls had hinted at, and that he cared for her more than a friend? He didn't seem like the kind to sabotage a romance. Riku released her and changed it to celebration. With a grin, she flipped her hair. "You're right! We should be having fun, not freaking out about the future." She lightly tapped him before dashing of to the shoreline. "You're it!"

Riku grinned when she lightly tapped his arm and dashed off. He scrambled after her with a loud laugh and let himself forget about everything that had gone wrong and might go wrong, especially with this new development of Sunshine saying yes. She said yes! He couldn't believe it. He was beyond happy. He let her lead him around for a few minutes before running faster and catching up to her, tapping her shoulder. "You're it, sweetheart"

When was the last time she had such a rush of joy? Yeah she was relatively positive, but she had never gone to super childish lengths like she was now. Sand and surf were kicked up and she was tagged by him. She grabbed her hair tie and redid her bras. The last thing she needed was someone tripping over her mutant length hair. “Okay fine.” Braid in check she darted after him with a burst of speed maybe even Shadow would have been surprised by

He gave a whoop of surprise as she went after him faster than expected. He poured on the speed and ducked his head down to get even faster. Of course he'd let her catch him, eventually, but he wanted to make this fun. He hadn't really experienced 'fun' until he left his home and was a little starved for the experiences. This was fun, it was awesome! It made him happy. He had never really been 'happy' in his life, but today, today he was experiencing true joy and he couldn't get enough of it. After a couple minutes he let her catch him and when she tapped him he picked her up and spun her around, high on joy. "You make me the happiest man alive" he couldn't help but say.
