I was very experimental as a child, though it bit me in the butt later" he'd experimented with things beyond his control and they'd taken advantage of him and nearly drowned him in darkness. He grinned. "I know Hiccup! He became quite handsome when he grew up" he laughed a little. "The beast tamer, if I remember right. How many dragons were there following him around?" so, he'd gone to the same school as each other. But had obviously just missed each other. "I stayed with my own friends, Sora the summoner and Kairi, a priestess of wiccan. My parents did not approve of my friends though so...they eventually left and I got less loyal friends" he hesitated and looked at her. "Why not you? You're the light in my life, when I'm near you I feel myself shining, and I make you happy. I want to be together because we make each other happy"

Bit in the butt. That was code for getting in too deep. Had he not been saved at the last minute, he could have fallen to darkness. He didm’t, though. He almost did. Sunshine shuddered inwardly at thinking of how far darkness would take anyone. She played with a bit of her hair, wet from the dip and stringy. People tried to take her gift for similar experiments. That all changed when Hiccup’s superlative, the ‘beast tamer’, came up. She turned with her eyes wide. So they did go to the same school if he knew who one of her best friends in high school had been. But the life he had was far different than hers..kind of. His true friends were tossed aside, hers were never true. “I guess disloyal friends was the one thing we had in common then,” she shrugged. “Jack and I used to date, but then it turns out he was two timing me...with Merida. Needless to say I don’t talk to them anymore. That’s why Inguess I sort of...shut myself down, focused on Nevermore. Didn’t bother to think Others would snatch me up and throw me in a world I thought was just a scary story.”

Riku winced. "I liked my friend Kairi, but Sora got her heart" he said by way of consolation. "I happy for them though" he swam over closer to her and touched her shoulder. "I know it was a bad experience but I'm glad you're here. I don't know what I'd do without you, Sun" he kissed her cheek. "You're so much stronger than your bad experiences, I hope you remember that. It's what made me fall in love with you"

UnRequired love. The pain of it was probably worse given Kairi’s potential background as “common”. Or maybe she was rich and was good at keep it quiet. In the end, it worked out in a strange way. The girl from the bottom getting with the person she admired from afar. She blushed, not just at the peck on the cheek but at him saying she was strong. She didn’t feel tough or strong. She was nothing like Shadow. But Riku said her humanity made him fall for her. Enough to ask her to marry him. As she kissed him back, the ring shimmered, reminding her it was the dawn of a new part of her life.
