Yang had to laugh. She'd never expected Sunshine to have a type. But, it looked like white hair and blue eyes might be a thing for her. Yang wasn't sure if she really had a type. She'd had a few flings in the past, but they'd never lasted long and she'd never been really serious about any of the boys she'd hooked up with. She'd done it for fun more than anything else. Adrien had been the first guy to make her feel different, to think that maybe he'd be more than just a friend who could make her laugh and make puns all the time. It had certainly taken them a while to head in the romantic direction, but she was glad they'd had. Aqua ended up asking about him and she smiled. "We're doing good. I think he's learning how to manage his father's business well. And he's enjoying being his own boss." That was certainly one perk about Adrien being in charge. He could finally manage himself for once, instead of letting his dad do it. Not to mention, he was probably nicer to the employees.

Sunshine's cheeks were flaming a snot only Yang, but Elsa and Aqua started laughing. Oh, of course they'd find humor in the guys' name. "Funny enough, he did have ice powers. He was trying to go into some sort of magic program with it. Never worked out, he was too lazy..." Lazy hitting on her high school bestie Merida, who wasn't interested in romance but needless to say, Jack's actions got to her and they both ended up betraying Sunshine in the back. The group, once so tightly knit, had fallen. Now Sunshine had new friends in Shadow, Yang, and even now, Aqua and Elsa. The direction went to Yang's relationship with Adrien, and the blonde cop snickered at the half=Phoenix's description.
"Yep, there are many benefits of being your own boss," Elsa smiled. "You make your schedule, you choose what's most important to you, and so on. Glad he's liking the same lifestyle I've chosen." Ever since her parents died, Elsa had taken the Crispin Law practices to defending the good of the city. It wasn't much of a start, but at least it was pointing people in the right direction.

Aqua couldn't stop her smile. It was just... for once things might be shaping up for all of them. Sunshine was happy with Riku. Elsa was slowly getting closer and closer to Ralph. Yang was being tended to hand and foot by Adrien Agreste of all people (who seemed to have it in his head to spoil his girlfriend like she was some sort of royal in a past life). She just had to talk to Omar and Riku to get a few things sorted out. Though that could have been the fatigue, slap happiness and falsified courage that talking about her problems had instilled in her. Things weren't ideal. But this put things into a different perspective. She was suddenly immensely grateful she had even decided to work late and was even getting a chance to talk with her coworkers (and Elsa) even if the topic was light.
"I can't imagine having to step into such a big role as that." Aqua said. "Head of the company? It'd be scary."

"Yeah, he was a little freaked out by it all at first," Yang said. "But he has this assistant named Maria who knew how things worked, so she helped him get started." During that time, all Yang had been able to do was provide emotional support. She didn't know anything about running a company or managing other employees. Maria had helped out with that, while Yang was there to make Adrien feel better after a long day. And that could range from long make-out sessions to making dumb jokes. Just last week, she'd spent the night at his place and managed to make a decent breakfast, despite her limited cooking skills. She could make stuff without blowing up the kitchen, but she wasn't about to try and be on the Food Network. Adrien had appreciated it all the same though.

Sunshine almost snorted hot tea. Adrien's Help was named Maria? It seemed wherever they went, that name was popping up everywhere. When it did, Shadow would have a PTSD attack, where he just froze. Sunshine knew why. Maria had been his only real friend and he had been forced to watch her die.
Elsa handed a handful of napkins to Sunshine. "My maid Ella helps me out," she said, "so I know how it is having support in my work.
Sunshine blew her nose, thanking Elsa with a smile. "Wonder how Shadow would feel about the help sharing the name of his friend?"
"Not to be rude, but I honestly never expected Shadow to have friends before he came here," Elsa said. She gave Sunshine a look, "and, well, before you and Riku got together, I was certain Shadow was going to ask you out."
Sunshine nearly gagged on her next bite of food. Elsa thought..well, she had gotten a few looks from people when she and Shadow hung out. One that did come up was a questioning one. She had often shaken off the glances, not really thinking of what was being asked. Now with what Elsa told her, she realized they probably did think they were a couple. Sunshine remembered the times he brushed her hand as they got through Sapien, the moments of silence where he looked at her and did favors without her asking him. Maybe he had wanted to ask her out...

"It's understandable. It's good that he has you in his corner though," Aqua told Yang.
She knew that she had felt better when she had Terra with her when she was working. She hadn't been the same since his death but had gotten better when Riku was her partner, no matter how reluctant she had been at first. A good trusting person you could have in your corner meant the world. That was probably why she had been so depressed as of late. She wondered if this was what Vanitas had in mind when he cast the curse in the first place, knowing that if someone pushed Riku to such fury it would damage whatever relationship that he had with that person. A part of her wanted to shoot Vanitas on sight. But she was a cop. Justice came first. Fair trial and all that jazz.
"Shadow?" Aqua asked.
She hadn't expected that, though she wasn't close to Shadow, not as close as she had been with Riku. Sunshine had easily confessed how cute she thought her partner. Aqua just tried to nudge things along here and there, drop a hint or when Shadow went AWOL, she told Riku to partner with Sunshine because Sunshine needed a partner more at the time.

The topic shifted from Adrien to Shadow, and Elsa confessed that she thought he'd ask Sunshine out. At least, before she and Riku had gotten together. Aqua seemed to surprised to hear that. Yang, on the other hand, kept silent, mostly because she knew Elsa's thoughts had been right, at some point. Shadow had been crushing on Sunshine pretty hard. Heck, part of him still probably was. Yang had felt sad to see him keep his feelings bottled up, although she understood why. Putting Sunshine in a position where she'd have to choose between Shadow or Riku would create a lot of tension, and it could lead to damaged friendships that could never be fixed. Yang felt like she couldn't really bring it up, not when it wasn't her business. But she could see Sunshine turning things over in her head, and she wondered if she was considering the possibility that Shadow had liked her at some point.

Sunshine's face was bright red at this point. Her partner had feelings for her. But...why? She wasn't anything special? She wasn't a seelie or whatever else could match his intense power. But she remembered how when he said that he loved her at the hospital when she had cried over her near death experience. It was probably the closest to a confession he'd give her. He wasn't much of the mushy type, not unless...
Unless he was absolutely serious.
A huge pang of guilt hit her. He had been looking at her, trying to think of a way to tell Sunshine that he loved her. Now she was in a perfectly good relationship. He has no one now, and had let her go. It would explain the sudden desire he had in wanting talk to Riku. Maybe they would get along.
"I don't..." she stammered.
"The same reason Adrien fell in love with Yang probably, or Omar fell in love with Aqua," Elsa answered. She picked up the leftover food and closed the lid to prevent it getting to the flies. "Because you give him hope, a little bit of light in such a bleak town."

"That's a bit much to assume, Elsa. I mean, just because they're close he might not love her," Aqua said.
She was close to Terra and dated him despite him being her partner. She shared none of those same feelings for Riku. She respected him, but he was her rookie partner. She was supposed to look out for him. Though she supposed because of how different things were, and how she didn't want him to fit Terra's role, she couldn't look at him that way. Besides, when Sunshine said she liked him, Aqua tried to coax the two together, as a way for her to get past her own hurts.
Love was a strong word to throw around. Omar might have liked her but she doubted it was love yet. And just because Shadow was fond of Sunshine, he might not love her either. Unless he said something different. She wanted to avoid more situations where people assumed these things. That's what ended up hurting her and Riku. Or rather leading to her hurting Riku.

Elsa still seemed to support the idea of Shadow liking Sunshine. Aqua was a little more skeptical. Yang wasn't sure if she could confess what she knew. Shadow would probably get pissed off if he found out she told people how he felt. Secrets like that had to be shared when the person was ready, and if there was one thing true about Shadow, it was that he liked to really trust someone before talking about personal things. Maybe she could just hint at it? There was no harm in that, right? "Well, he said he loved you that one time," she said to Sunshine as she ran a hand through her hair. "At the hospital, remember?" Technically, he'd just said it and Sunshine could interpret it as she had wanted, and she'd seen it as a platonic love, something two friends shared. Of course, romance probably wouldn't be the first thing that would jump to her head. She had been in a pretty bad mental state, and Riku had been by her side, doing all he could to help her. The possibility of Shadow liking her probably wouldn't have even entered her mind.

"He did," Sunshine nodded to Yang. "And I'm pretty sure he meant it. He never was the type to joke around when he meant something. I'm just...I'm glad he isn't doing the sabotage bullshit that all the young adult movies do, you know?"
"Isn't that the truth," Elsa rolled her eyes. Youn adult literature had gotten a bad reputation for romanticizing love triangles. The reality was it was always obvious which man the girl would choose, which was the guy who was probably bad for her. The issue here was diffusing itself with, what she understood, as the two of them agreeing that they cared. "I also like how it isn't..." she paused, noticing the guilt in Aqua's face. Had her and Riku made up?

"Ah, um..."
Aqua felt like she was certainly out of the loop if she hadn't realized something like that. Sunshine was taking the news surprisingly well. Most people in her position might have just panicked because they just realized that someone that they didn't think had a crush on them before now did. Especially if Shadow dropped the 'L' word before Riku did. It only made things more complicated and confusing in the long run.
"What are you going to do?" Aqua asked.
Not addressing the situation could lead to Shadow being hurt. As if he wasn't already, especially since Sunshine was running around with Riku now. And Shadow had to watch as she was happy with someone else.

Yang had to agree with that. Shadow wasn't acting the same way as, say, Jacob trying to pry Edward and Bella apart. He was better than a corny teenage love triangle. But, as Yang knew, that didn't necessarily mean he wasn't feeling bad about all this. She remembered him being tense for a while if Riku's name was ever mentioned. Even he hadn't been immune to jealousy. He just hadn't let it get the better of him. Aqua asked Sunshine what she was going to do, and Yang was curious to know as well. She could sweep this matter under the rug, or talk to Shadow directly about it. Yang doubted either option was easy. But, if anyone could get Shadow to talk about his feelings, it would be Sunshine. She had a way of getting him to open up that even Yang didn't have.

Sunshine hesitated. Shadow was her best friend, and he talked to her about everything. But in a matter that usually involved his own personal affections for someone, he chose to come to them and hated when someone came up front about it. Asking him because of girl time gossip was something a caddy teenager would do. A teenager her "friends" before she joined the police force had been. "I'll let him come to me on his own terms. Asking him about it too soon wouldn't be fair."

"I suppose you know him best." Aqua shrugged.
She was not going to get involved in this. It would do no one any good if she was started meddling again. Besides, she was in over her head with her own problems. She wouldn't add to it by stirring up trouble when nothing had come from Shadow's apparent feelings. He hadn't gotten upset and hurt her or lashed out at anyone. He hadn't done anything drastic. He hadn't tried to break Riku or Sunshine up. He hadn't threatened anyone (namely Riku). He had done nothing. So until something happened, it was better not to make a mountain out of a molehill.
