"Yang, tell Shadow I'm being the host. I'm supposed to make sure everyone's having a good time," Adrien joked.
Besides, he was with his friends. He never got to just hang out like this. He was a little nervous if he was honest. He wanted everyone to have a good time and enjoy themselves. He had tried to think of everything - a secondary catering company so Sunshine didn't have to work, his chefs to make the food, better interior decorating, the popular fire demon to provide liquor. He knew it was silly, trying to impress people who already liked him. Well, some of them liked him. Others were here for Namine's sake rather than him.
"But seriously, cut back and have some fun, okay?" he told Shadow.
"I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you," Aqua said sincerely.
Hurting him was the last thing she wanted. He had already suffered so much on her behalf already all without her asking him to. He chose to stay loyal to her despite his captors telling him to give his feelings for her. Aqua took a deep breath. She wasn't going to let her guilt and fear overwhelm her this time. She had been petrified after Omar got hurt that he had died the same way Terra had, that she wouldn't get to say goodbye - again - and she would spend another couple of years just looking for a body for closure. But he was there, he was alive, and he wasn't going to disappear again. This time she would be sure of it.
"There's no excuse for it. I was afraid. I guess I still am, but I've made up my mind." she told him.
She set her drink down with a firm clink. She hadn't even really gotten to touch it by the time Omar waltzed over to her. What she said would be said without the verbal lubrication often provided by alcohol. With her hands now free, she took his hands in hers. She refrained from squeezing them in case they were still tender from healing. She meant what she said about not wanting to hurt him. She looked up at him, trying to keep eye contact, despite the nerves.
"I'll be yours," she said. "If you'll still have me?"
Jane smiled as Riku made his quick exit to save Sunshine from polished floors and her own long hair. They could get to know him later. For now, she and Namine could just mingle. Namine gave her a nervous glance, almost expecting Jane to be affronted by the fact that Riku had 'dismissed them' so quickly along with an outburst of one of Jane's usual tirades about cop stereotypes. But Jane understood. It was his fiancé after all. Plus, someone had to make sure that Sunshine hadn't hurt herself.
"Nice guy," Jane commented.

"Oh, I guess we wouldn't want that, would we?" Yang said teasingly. Still, even she could admit, most of Adrien's staff were pretty nice. They didn't seem to mind so much that Adrien had chosen to date a girl like her. Or, if they did mind, they kept their opinions to themselves. Maybe they just liked the change in management better. Adrien was a lot warmer and friendlier than his father. Working for him probably made a world of difference. Of course, the staff could also see that Yang brought a lot of life to the house too. When the two of them were together, they practically glowed. There was a slight commotion as Sunshine tripped upon entering the room. Luckily, Riku swooped in like a knight in shining armor and helped her to her feet. Yang glanced at Shadow, hoping that all the couple-y stuff wasn't wearing him down. Even regular people could get sick of PDA every once in a while. Sunshine was usually the one to perk him up, but hanging out with her right now would probably only increase his feelings of being the third wheel. "If you wanna cut back, we could always see who can eat the most from the buffet," she joked. "I could probably go through the whole cheese tray in one sitting."

Shadow shook his head with a quiet laugh and one of his rare smiles crossing his face. Yang was practically beaming with delight just with her light teasing od Adrien. How long had it been since there had been any kind of positivity? It was strange to say, but he was feeling...happy. Was this how it felt? Not caring about crimes and just relaxing with people who trusted you and vice versa? Even at the small rumble tumble of Sunshine's clumsiness and Riku rushing to help her - which Shadow didn't even do because he knew she was capable of looking after herself and had a supportive fiance - he hadn't gone to broodiness. Yang booked him a challenge, to which he looked at her with a competitive smirk. "You're on."
_____________________________
It was just a small flub, and she was at least still standing, albeit awkwardly. Had her butt been any larger, she would have been laughed at. Riku was running to her like a knight rushing to a princess and she felt her face grow pink. Leave it to him to be so charming. He had helped her upright, and she tucked a hair behind her ear. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just being a klutz, nothing new."

Omar felt like he was glowing. He squeezed her hands-gently, gently, not wanting to aggravate the pain in his own hands. "I would have waited for ever if you'd asked me" he told her honestly. "And I would have moved on if you'd asked me" he had to add that because he felt like he was being a little creepy. "I was waiting on your okay"
___
He smiled at her gently. "Hey, it's okay. If you had fallen I would have helped you up. I'm just making sure you're okay" he laughed a little. "I want to be here for you, okay? Just tell me if I'm hovering, I don't want that either" he wanted to be the perfect gentleman but he was worried it wouldn't be received as well as what was in his head.

"Eat your hearts out," Adrien joked. "I'll cheer you on."
He didn't foresee any food eating competitions in his future. Besides, there was plenty to eat. His staff made sure of that. They might have gone a little overboard. And if Yang and Shadow hung out, maybe Yang would get to challenge Shadow to the race she wanted since she bought her bike. She loved her new bike. Going out and picking one together, even if it was just for her, made Adrien feel even more over the moon about her. She was trying to include him in her interests and her hobbies. He would have to make more of an effort to do the same. Maybe she would like rock climbing? Maybe Shadow could come with and they could get to hang out for real. The prospect of having an outing with friends made him grin.
"I can always leave you two to it and go check on everyone else?"
"I shouldn't have made you wait this long." Aqua insisted. He said he would have waited forever if he had to, but that wasn't fair to him. He was too kind to her. Omar's devotion was a little intimidating, mostly because the last person who had cared so much had ended up hurting her - though Terra had been possessed by Vanitas at the time. But it was time for her to move on from Terra. Omar was safe. He was gentle and unbelievably kind. He had also caught her by surprise with a wicked sense of humor. He had been able to move past the fact she was a cop to see her as a person. To him, she wasn't Aqua the faery or Aqua the cop, she was just Aqua. She took a deep breath to ease her nerves. Recalling all the feelings she had when she had been around him gave her some confidence. "Would... you like to do dinner sometime?" she offered. Dinner was a good start. They could take things slow until she figured out where she fit into 'them'. Omar seemed to already know his place in the relationship. He had happily accepted it even and that was before she had said yes. She supposed that came with age? He was older than her after all. He had more experience in moving past love and loss. He was able to take a fall and get back up stronger than ever before. That alone was something to be admired about him.
Jane peered around the room. There were still lots of people to go and see. She smiled when she saw Yang across the room. She gave the blonde a wave. She seemed preoccupied with her boyfriend and Shadow, but it was good to see her. The last time they were at a party like this, they had both gone dress shopping together and had a good time. At least until Thrax had shown up and Jane blew up at Shadow. She winced. She hadn't apologized for that.

"Okay, you go and play the part of the nice host," Yang said before giving Adrien a light peck on the cheek. Then again, there probably wouldn't be any acting on Adrien's part. He was genuinely enjoying this. And how could he not? Yang would probably feel the same, if she was in his shoes. But, she focused her thoughts on the task at hand: the buffet. Shadow accepted her challenge whole-heartedly, and while she might not have been as cocky as she was back in the day, that didn't mean her competitive streak had disappeared. Back in the day, it had mostly applied to her fighting matches, but it was still relevant in food-eating challenges as well. She made her way to the buffet, and managed to fill every square inch of it with things like meatballs, chips and salsa, and a sampling of every type of cheese from the cheese tray. "Nobody can deny it: buffets were made for things like this," she said to Shadow with a grin. She looked up to notice Jane waving at her and she waved back. To be honest, she hadn't seen her friend in a while. Jane had been the friend she'd been most worried about when she'd joined the Others Unit. While Omar had gotten pretty chill with the cops, Jane hadn't been quite as forgiving. But if she was starting to become cool with someone like Shadow, Yang figured she wouldn't hold a grudge against her for her career choice. Besides, she always felt that now that she was a cop, she could prevent other people from going through the same thing Jane had. And wasn't that something worth striving for?

"And don't try anythibg too...heroic." A teasing wink was fired at Adrien as Yang pecked Adrien on the cheek. It wasn't like PDA was something that annoyed him after all. Yang had grown in her time on the force and, well, he hated to admit it but Pitch had gotten some seriousness in her, though he was happy to know she still had her silly side. He followed her to the buffet, glancing over to notice Jane waving in their direction. He hailed her with a hand up. Once this was taken care of, he'd be able to catch up with her. Maybe get her opinion on the whole 'Omar dating Aqua' thing. "Yeah. either piling or food poisoning." _______________________________________________________ Sunshine shook her head with a small smile. Leave it to Riku to think he was being a helicopter boyfriend. She wouldn't object, but at least she had someone to talk to. For now. And that was given if Omar and Aqua stopped being cute at the bar. Her wish was somewhat granted when Adrien was off, finishing a talk with Shadow and Yang. She smiled. Good. Her partner was getting out of his "emo" shell and making some conversation. She waved Adrien down. "Adrien! Over here!"

"Or better yet we stay at one of our apartments and I make dinner for you" he offered and smiled. "Only the Seddons have better food than I do, and I blame the faery blessings, it just makes everything sunny, food included" he was joking at the last bit. "Dinner sounds amazing with you Aqua" He slid off his stool and gently took his hands out of hers. "I'm going to grill Namine's half brother, is that alright? Everyone says he's a good kid, but I don't want Namine used and Yang with a broken heart"
__
Riku nodded, feeling greatly relieved. Okay, that's good" he sighed in relief and smiled as Sunshine waved Adrien over. "Hey!" he greeted happily. "How go things?"

"I'm always nice," Adrien told Yang with a grin. "But I'm no hero."
It was true, unless you happened to be a criminal. Then Adrien took off the nice gloves and played bad little thief. Yang did seem to like the fact he was a bit of a rule breaker though. Not your typical rich boy model. He was more open minded than most of the people in his field. Adrien shrugged it off and walked away. Now that his father wasn't in the picture, Adrien didn't have to hide behind a mask to do good deeds. He could host his own charity auctions. He could donate the leftover products to places that helped those who needed it. He could write whatever fat check he wanted to in order to support the BPD. It was perhaps one of the good things that came out of his father's death, aside from being able to see Yang unhindered. He waved to Sunshine. She had made an interesting entrance, but Riku had double checked on her, to make sure she was okay. He stepped over to the couple, just to check and make sure they were doing okay.
"How are you doing?" he asked.
"Or we could cook together?" Aqua suggested.
Cooking for him would be a way for her to learn more about him. His likes and dislikes. She also didn't want him doing everything by himself. Not when his hands were still healing. She didn't want to be the cause of any further damage to him. If they didn't take care of the injury and baby it until it was better, then it could lead to problems for him further down the line. She sighed when he got up. How like him to go and give Adrien the 3rd degree about getting involved with 'his girls'. It was actually quite sweet that he worried that much over them. She wondered if her father would have done the same with him or Terra. She would unfortunately, never get to know.
"Try not to scare him off. Yang really likes him." she said.
Jane surveyed the room once more. She grinned as she caught Omar and Aqua holding hands. Granted, she disapproved of the fact he had fallen for a faery (and then got tortured for it followed by Aqua leading her father around waiting for a response) but he was happy. So she had to accept that. Though, if Aqua messed up, Jane would happily pluck her wings off. Her father would disapprove, but all Jane wanted was to see Omar happy. Which for now, he was.
Namine however, watched the happy couple with a smile. She was so ecstatic for both of them. They were good together, in her opinion. Both drawing strength from one another and helping one another move past old wounds and injuries like Aqua's lost love and Omar's distaste for cops.

Yang saw Adrien make his way to Sunshine and Riku. He still seemed pretty happy, which of course, made her happy. Adrien may have suffered in different ways than she had, but he'd still had a pretty unhappy life for a while. She was glad that he was finally able to be free and live the life he wanted. He deserved it, after being under his father's oppressive thumb for so long. She had to laugh about Shadow's comment on food poisoning. "Well, if food poisoning is the only negative consequence of this party, I can live with that," she said. "Better than having a crazy demon crash the place or have dark spirits go nuts." It always seemed to be Weiss's parties that things went downhill. Then again, both circumstances had been out of her control. Yang could understand how they'd leave a negative impact on her though. It was no wonder she'd skipped out on this party. She made it about halfway through her plate before asking Shadow "So...how are you and Sunshine?" She still remembered being with the fellow blonde when she realized that Shadow had feelings for her, and her decision to wait for him to say something about it first. Yang wondered if he had, although she doubted it. Shadow would probably need a lot of prodding to spill that secret.

WHat was it with all the bubbliness coming around? It wasn't just from the steaming pile of food on Shadow's plate, which was seeming to grow with each ladleful he added. Any more and he would probably need an extra plate. At least the weight could be burned off with a quick jog and a night routine. Monsters seemed to be bigger in their spew of crimes during the nighttime hours, especially in the winter. "So true. The only demon here is me, and I'm not in the 'blowing up and ruining a party' mood." He chewed a meatball thoughtfully, and Yang brought up Sunshine and him.
He inclined his head to where his partner was. Adrien was approaching her and Riku. She was beaming. Beaming. And her fiance was catching her rays of happiness, too, laughing alongside her. Sunshine was gesturing o her fiance, introducing him, "So, yeah, we're....um...we're a package deal now."
He had to swallow the meatball, the metallic taste rining the more he watched it. "She's been busy, what with all the planning for the wedding. We hrdly ever have time anymore." He sat back. "but I do like Riku, he's a good match for her. He and get along fairly well," he dryly laughed, "yeah, me, making friends. What a shock."

Omar made his way over to where Adrien was with Sunshine and Shadow, though he hung back a little and watched them talk together. He wasn't giving the third degree with Sunshine and her fiance there. It just wouldn't be taken well.

Riku laughed and nodded. "The best things come in pairs" he joked and smiled at Adrien. "We're doing pretty good I think, how are you?"

"I heard!" Adrien said. "Congratulations. If you need help with finding something to wear to the wedding, let me know."
Maybe a budding designer who hadn't gotten their name out there yet (to keep Riku and Sunshine off the front page of Fashion Weekly or Desired Designs). A rookie designer was often full of inspiration and the willingness to prove themselves. Senior designers were great. Fantastic in their own ways. He had plenty of those and happy workers now that he was the one running the office and not his father. But budding designers fresh from schools had heads full of ideas and great hopes. He liked to help them when he could. He also wanted to help his friends. Sure, Riku was the former heir to the Lafayette family, but weddings could get expensive. And Riku partially bought his girlfriend a house.
He spared a look to Shadow, but very quick, one that Riku or Sunshine would not notice. The officer had told Chat Noir that he had feelings for Sunshine, but had let her move on with someone else. Sunshine was happy. He supposed that was all that mattered to Shadow. There were other people out there. Maybe someone else would catch Shadow's fancy. Someone who could match him a little better. Because unfortunately, Shadow was a bit tough on the outside, he needed someone to soften him out a bit. Round him out as a person so to speak.
Aqua let out a shaky breath once Omar left. She put a hand to her face. It felt warm. She had to be blushing fiercely. She was a little glad that Omar had stepped off. It gave her time to think this over. She was now officially dating Omar. It felt so adolescent to call him her boyfriend, but that was what it made him, right? Her new boyfriend. She shook her head and reached for her drink, finishing it off quickly. She wasn't going to get drunk, she told herself, just enough to help her lighten up some.
Jane frowned. It seemed like everyone was busy talking or eating. She would typically go to the bar in this scenario, but her dad was there for one, and two, it was a room full of cops. She was also there with Namine. The girl might have been older, but Namine was meek and impressionable. She gave off the air of innocence that Jane wouldn't want to ruin. Sighing, she took the blond by the hand and led her over to the food. At least they could eat something.

Yang was quiet for a moment. She could tell it was bothering Shadow at least a little bit. The only question was: how much was he hiding? At least he admitted that Riku was a nice guy and that they'd been getting along. That was good to hear. But Yang wondered how long he could stay silent about this until he exploded. His feelings over Sunshine and Riku getting married were sure to build up over time. How long would it take before he couldn't hold anymore and everything just flooded out? "Well, if you managed to make friends with Riku, I'd say your social skills have definitely improved," she commented. Shadow wasn't acting like the douchey guy whose crush managed to get away from him. But that didn't necessarily mean that he wasn't hurting over it any less. "Are you sure you wanna keep how you feel under wraps? I think your opportunities to say something are running out."

Shadow swallowed his fill, the plate now halfway empty. Yang was pressing him to say something, and while he did, he also knew the dangers of letting hs emotions out so freely. If anything had gone wrong, the manor would have been a cesspool for demons to climb out of. He couldn't risk injuring any more people with the unbridled powers. He put a hand on his inhibitor rings and answered her suggestion. "I'm going to tell her, just not in public, and especially not during one of the few times where most of us get to relax." Speaking of relaxing, he saw the bar was finally open and his stomach wasn't full yet. "I know one thing I won't tell Sunshine; Adrien's cook makes mean savories." The quip was his cue to head back for more, and in so doing found himself nearby Jane and Namine. ______________________________________________ Sunshine laughed. "Honestly, everything's kind of been accounted for. We had no plans with a big budget or anything. I do need to ask your girlfriend officially if she'd be my maid of honor, though. "What exactly did assistants to the bride and groom wear in helping a voodoo crowd? She'd ask Riku and, well, maybe take Adrien up on his offer. "So what are your plans with your company? Besides treating Yang like the badass princess she is?"
Okay, maybe using a pet name was mean-spirited. Did Adrien call her friend a princess? Maybe? Well, she knew in the fairy tale life she herself was Rapunzel. Did that make Yang Goldilocks? Or Maid Marian? Or what other analogies she couldn't think of that the top of her head? Her head inclined to the bar where Omar and Aqua were walking away...with smilies. It seemed there were other couples getting to know one another. Yet a tiny pang of guilt hit her. Shadow hadn;t dated anyone. Ever. Here she was with her fiance and then the rest ofthe couples getting together. The only bachelorettes in the room were Jane and Namine, and well, she prayed Shadow wasn;t getting reminders of Maria looking at the artist.
