Yang was talking with Namine now, which meant Shadow was set with Jane. The good news? She was beyond the 'rip-the-head-off-of-you" phase. Had Omar talked some sense into her? Was it because they surprisingly got along despite having three conversations? Well, let's make it four. Jane asked him what he was doing over the holidays, and he shrugged, "The Seddons invited me to dinner. Before that, I'm going to be playing cards with the Colts. So, really, not much." That had been the challenge of living alone. He had no one to spend time with over the holidays. There would be occasional thank you notes, but unlike Sunshine with her family, Shadow had...no one. It had never bothered him. Until now. ________________________________________________________ With Riku's blessing to get something stronger, Sunshine didn't know what it was she did to deserve him. She approached the bar and ordered two kiwi lemonades, one with melon schnapps. It was strange, having a summery drink during the wintertime. She blamed working with all the holiday flavors at Nevermore. As much as she loved butterscotch lattes, they were getting old. She accepted the barters, handing her fiance the non-alcoholic beverage. "So, had Weiss moved in and gotten hrself comfortable?" Part of her was sad she didn't show, but she understood why. Having shadow spirits be your party trick at a fancy shingdig...not exactly a good memory.

Omar looked at him. "Don't give me all the credit, she's a good girl. A good strong girl in her own way. I found her when the damage was done. I'm just helping her find the pieces of herself she lost along the way" Omar nudged the younger man with one hand, gently so as to not aggravate his hands. "She's going to have help from you, isn't she? I mean, you're apparently really good for Yang so..." Omar gave a wry half smile. "Family is important, kiddo. You won points with me for seeking her out and seeking to take care of her. I'm just the guy who walked her home from work one night. You're flesh and blood, it makes a difference"
-
Riku kissed Sunshine's cheek and took his lemonade. "You are an absolute peach Sun" he said with a grateful grin and took a drink of his lemonade. It tasted so good, props to Adrien for thinking of it. He really had thought of everything. "The thing with Jane LaRue and Shadow is cute" he said with a cheeky grin. "Dare I say it but I think I saw him get flustered. I hope what I'm reading into is right and he likes her, I don't know her that well, but I've heard she got her dad's fiery side. So they'd be cute together, Shadow and Jane"

"W-We're trying to g-get to know each other." Namine said. "H-He talks about you a lot though."
Adrien had been taking things easy with her, something she appreciated. He wanted to get to know her as much as she wanted to know him. She wasn't sure how to go about being a sibling. A learning experience on all sides for her since now she had Jane and Adrien to get to know. Plus, an actual father figure who was a good person. She was overwhelmed by the sheer kindness of everyone involved. Adrien had been particularly sweet, like he was going out of his way to try and make her as comfortable as possible, even though this had to be hard on him as well.
"Good. Otherwise I'd have to force you over to our place." Jane said.
No one should ever be alone during the holidays. Jane was simply of that mindset. Nothing was worse in her opinion. It just seemed Shadow was having a hard time of thingsl lately. Her father didn't hate cops. He had managed to not just lump the BPD into the 'all cops are evil' mindset. It was harder for her to get over that but she was willing to try pushing past it one cop at a time. Shadow was a good start. She knew him, had even drank with him. If she looked at him by a person by person basis instead of just a job title, it wasn't so bad.
Adrien smiled sheepishly. He felt like all the things he had done for Yang were simply natural. He would gladly do the same for Namine, if she had ever needed his help. He would extend the same courtesy to Jane and Omar. They were important to Namine. If Adrien was going to be a part of Namine's life, he would have to accept the fact that with Namine came the two trolls. It did't seem like a terrible thing. Namine was happy with them. They seemed like genuine people.
"Yang's important to me," he said. "I want to get to know Namine too. I'm not going to be like my father and squander away my time on my company."
That was as close to a promise as he could make to Omar. He wanted to help Namine if she needed it. Be there for her if she asked for it. Yang was the one person he knew he could have no matter what. She was special to him and he adored her completely. He wanted to know his sister and her family. Maybe then he wouldn't feel so alone when it was just him in his mansion. He didn't dare ask Namine or Yang to move in. They had their own lives after all.

"He's a flatterer. Don't believe everything he says about me," Yang said with a laugh. No doubt Adrien had exaggerated some of her good qualities. Then again, he'd never minded the bad stuff about her, which she appreciated. He just accepted her as she was. "He's a nice guy, though. One of the nicest I've met. Which I found kind of surprising, to be honest. I thought he'd be like every other stuffy upper-class guy." In the beginning, she'd fallen for Adrien while she'd known him as Chat Noir. Adrien had just been a rich pretty boy in her mind, someone who belonged at the top of the social ladder with all the other selfish and snooty people. Finding out that Chat Noir and Adrien were one in the same had been a pretty big blow for her at first. Luckily, she'd gotten over it pretty quickly.

"I may take you up on that if I get sick of the Colts. Tell your dad to leave an extra plate for me." He was half-joking. If a mix-up in routine was what he needed to get out of the strange fog of confusion, which was probably why he was so on edge, then it would have to do. The brothers would understand. Dimitri would probably accuse the ditch on Jane, to which Shadow would punch him. His ear twitched in the direction of Yang's conversation, and while looking at his partner and her engaged fiancee, he realized that maybe he, too, had been so bitter because of the stuffy upper-class mark. Yet when Riku went and actually talked to him like a human did, it showed the guy wasn't so bad. _______________________________________________________________ Sunshine blushed as Riku's lips hit her cheek. The urge to make a retort of her being a kiwi and not a peach was corny, tough, so she sufficed hy taking a small sip. Which she nearly spit out when he mentioned Shadow and Jane were talking. Her green eyes darted over where, yes, he was chatting with the half-troll who had berated them at the masquerade issue. In a friendly way nonetheless. Okay, it wasn't flirting, but at least he was branching out. "Yeah, he talked with her at the charity concert Omar threw, too," she reported. Riku mentioned he thought they looked cute together, and she had no idea what to say. It could work. Maybe?

Riku gave a wry half smile. "Maybe we should help nudge them in that direction if we notice they seem to develop crushes?" he laughed a little. "It would be nice to see them happy, I think. Omar might be glad for his daughter getting with an honorable man, I mean, who wouldn't?"
-
"Don't lose your company either" Omar cautioned. "I need someone who can support himself, and be a protector. Just in case....Just in case I'm gone soon" He wasn't leaving anything up to chance. He'd gotten his will and locations of his treasures written up and ready for Jane and Namine. Just in case he was taken by the fae or worse, died.

Namine couldn't help the laugh that escaped her. Yes, Adrien did brag about all of Yang's accomplishments, but he was proud of her. Also, it was plain to see just how much he cared for her. His admiration and devotion bled through every syllable and laced every sentence. Namine was a little jealous of her brother. He had seemingly the perfect life. Though, she knew the truth of that. It was surface deep. He had some of the same reservations as she did about meeting his half sibling, only he had the courage to reach out once he knew. She had hesitated, but it was through Jane and Aqua's encouragement that she actually showed up to meet him. She was sure Omar would have said something, but she was hesitant to drop this on him since he was still recovering
"H-How d-did you meet?" Namine asked.
Adrien talked. A lot. Probably to fill in for her hesitance. But he didn't talk about how he had met Yang. Just how amazing he thought her and how proud he was of her. A 'glowing house husband', Aqua had joked if not for the fact that Adrien also worked.
"I think that can be arranged." Jane said. "And a doggie bag of leftovers, Mr. Takeout."
He had admitted to living on takeout when they had been drinking. Besides, with the way her dad was talking, there would be enough food for an army. Shadow would just have to be the 'wave of reinforcements' that they needed to win the battle against the holiday feast. She knew things were going to be big for her dad this year. It was the second year they were back together, now they had Namine, possibly Aqua and whoever else ended up on their doorstep. Likely her father's bandmates or maybe Adrien and Yang. It would be a big happy home of people.
"Yeah, but my company won't be my entire life." Adrien reasoned.
But then Adrien paused. If he were gone? He critically eyed the LaRue patriarch. Yeah, he had a close call with the faeries that kidnapped him. He didn't look sick, just tired. He was no longer wrapped up like a mummy in bandages either. But if something happened to Omar, Namine would be devastated. Not to mention Yang. Adrien already went through the loss of a father and he didn't want to see either of them have to endure the same thing. Besides, Omar was a troll, right? They lived a lot longer than humans. Nothing should happen to him.
"What do you mean?" he had to ask.

Namine's question was innocent enough, but it made Yang falter for a moment. She could recall her first meeting with Adrien vividly, although she'd only known him as Chat Noir at the time. And she'd nearly burned his face off, thinking he was an intruder come to steal her and her kids' stuff. Luckily, she had an answer that was at least honest in some parts. "He was trying to help me out, while I was still living on the streets with my kids," she said. "Kind of had to keep some of his charity work behind the scenes. His dad wasn't a big fan of it. I didn't trust him a whole lot at first, but...we kind of warmed up to each other, I guess. And nature took its course after that." At least now he could help the poor as much as he wanted without having to deal with his dad's stinginess.

“Matchmaking are we?” Sunshine smirked playfully. She had never seen that side of Riku. The sweet side yes, but the one who said let’s pair so and so up? It was new. She crossed her arms and looked at him with a twinkle in her eyes, “Have you thought of any matches for your sister?” Any of them would be better than sending her to some awful bachelor pad. ———-— Shadow made a face. Oh, yes, make fun of his literal life while running. Home cooked meals for him we’re a luxury. But she was doing it as a well meaning joke. He popped a scallop in his mouth and chewed with relish. They were better each and every time. He looked over at Omar, then back at Jane, asking, “So...your thoughts on your dad and Aqua?”

Riku grinned. Well, it passes the time at parties. Seeing who's talking to who and how they're acting and making silly little plans about their future" he paused and "My sister? Nah. But the Colt brothers...think Red would be okay talking to Dimitri? or would she shoot both of us for the attempt?" he laughed and sipped his drink. "But Weiss? She'll figure it out. I trust her to make good decisions. Doesn't mean I won't give the guy the third degree but" he laughed again.
-
"Good. We all need to have boundaries to live. My band means a lot, but it's not my entire life, and neither is my relationships, much as I love them. I have to be careful to keep everything in it's place so I can think properly. But if things bleed into each other, you gotta just roll with it" he laughed a little and then looked down at his hands. "Kid, I don't even know. I'm just preparing for everything so the ones I love don't get in a bad place because of my absence"

Namine smiled. She hadn't known Adrien long. She hadn't even given him a thought before he sent her that letter, explaining who he really was to her. But considering how gentle he was with her, how thoughtful and considerate he had been despite the awkwardness of the way they met, it made sense he extended the same kindness to others. He had thrown this party after all. He wasn't looking for anything in return. Namine glanced over her shoulder to Adrien who was talking to Omar. He had invited the LaRues so he could get to know her better. He truly wanted to be a part of her of her life.
"I-I just wish I-I could do something for him." she said.
Jane's smile faded. Aqua and her father? She hadn't been entirely happy about that revelation. Faeries treated their kind like garbage. Sure, Aqua was a city-bred faery but she still had the potential for the same cruelty in her that the faeries who kidnapped her father had. Besides, that woman had tugged her father around for months, leading him on and avoiding him. Jane hated seeing Omar get upset about that. It was only by her father's interventions that Jane hadn't confronted Aqua herself. It wouldn't have been as kind and gentle as the woman's talk tonight.
"I... he's happy." she shrugged. "I wish he hadn't fallen for a faery but he's a grown man. He can make his own choices. But if she's anything like those faeries that hurt him..."
She trailed off. She would likely have that talk with Aqua with her shotgun. Shadow would have to arrest her. The thought of Aqua pretending to love her father only to hurt him made Jane sick. Jane didn't trust her, even if she did act nice and seem nice. Aqua would really have to prove herself in order to fully gain Jane's acceptance. It had nothing to do with the fact that Omar moved on, but more of Aqua's species and her job.
"Don't talk like you're going away then," Adrien said. "You mean the world to Namine. I'm sure Yang feels the same."
Preparing for something that might not happen seemed rather silly in Adrien's mind. Like suffering twice, once for the actual event and once for all the worrying leading up to it. He also felt sort of like Omar was thrusting him into the position of successor of the 'family' if anything happened to him (though more taking care of Namine and Yang if anything happened but Adrien would keep an eye on Jane too because she meant a lot to Namine and Yang). Adrien wasn't sure if he was ready for that responsibility on top of his new company and foundling relationship with Namine.

"Eh, you don't need to," Yang said with a shrug. "That's just how Adrien is. He does nice things and doesn't ask for anything in return." She paused for a moment before adding "Although I'm sure he likes a 'thank you' as much as the next guy. He just needs to remember that we like him for him and not his money." Even if Adrien wasn't expecting a kind gesture or gift in return for something he did, Yang liked to do it anyway. She wanted him to know that she appreciated him, regardless of whether his money was involved or not. There'd probably always be someone who was after his riches or his influence. But his close friends and family, he could always trust them to not be like that. At least, that was what Yang reminded him every so often.
