Riku nodded. "And I need to ask Shadow to be my best man" he said with a smile at Sunshine. "We've been getting pretty friendly lately. We practiced targets together" Riku paused and looked at Adrien. "You could say this is voodoo themed, and it's in a voodoo temple. We might need a voodoo outfit" he didn't know if Sunshine wanted a traditional wedding dress or a voodoo one, but he was up for whatever. He wanted to make this as comfortable for her as possible. "I might need help picking out what luck colors to trim my suit with, if you'd help" he nodded in agreement to what Sunshine said. He hoped Adrien was handling it all well, he was a good guy but did he have a head for business?

"I'm sure Yang would love to be your maid of honor." Adrien said. "And just let me know what you need. I'll do what I can."
That was a truly special position in the wedding party after all. He was sure it would mean a lot to Yang that Sunshine was going to ask. It would pain him to ruin that surprise so he would let Sunshine be the one to tell Sunshine that. He would have to confer with Yang on proper wedding gifts. If Adrien was left to his own devices on a gift, he would probably give them something that was too over the top. Like an island. That would be a little too much on his part.
"Ha, well, I suppose aside from spending time with Yang, I like to get to know my sister." he mused.
Aqua got to her feet. She would need something to weigh her stomach down now that she had something to drink. Not a good idea to let herself become a lightweight over a single drink. Besides, the smell of food was tempting and taunting her now that she had finally taken the last weight off her shoulders. It was funny how talking to both Riku and Omar made her feel like she was finally freed. Unburdened by her own doubts and hurts. In a way. She was making a recovery and that was what mattered the most.
"Huh, the food here is pretty good." Jane admitted.
The food was surprisingly tasty. Like Adrien had actually gone out of his way to make sure the food was good for his friends (and newfound family). Or maybe that was his staff, since Adrien likely didn't dirty his hands with cooking. He might have been trying to butter them up though. Make them think kindly of him by providing a good time. Jane needed to have some time alone with him. But it didn't seem like she would get that since it looked like her father was trying to get in a word with him, now that he had resolved things with Aqua.

Yang let out a breath. That was a good enough answer for now. She just felt like Shadow needed to get it over with, so there were no regrets. He'd already been through so much, he didn't need even more regret added to his plate. "Okay. I really do think it'll make you feel better, at least a little bit," she said. It was sucky to be in Shadow's position, she was sure. But it wasn't really something she'd gone through herself. She'd had a few flings in the past, but nothing serious. Adrien was the first person she'd really fallen in love with, and there had been no third-wheeling experiences on her part. The closest she had was getting slightly jealous when Adrien had to do photo shoots with hot female models. But she was starting to get over even that. She knew they didn't mean a thing to Adrien, and he was barely in front of the camera anymore. Most of his work now was behind the scenes. Shadow shifted the conversation to the food, which Yang had to agree was pretty good. Then again, it came from Adrien's staff. Anything they made was perfect. She followed him back to the long tables filled with food, where Jane and Namine also happened to be.

Sunshine gaped at her fiance. He was going to ask Shadow to be his best man? And that Shadow was actually being friendly towards him? The last time someone had put the moves on her, who ironically was the host of their party, her partner had been extremely overprotective. "That's a first," she said. Her gaze shifted to her partner, who was at the buffet with Yang. At least with this gathering, there were people he could talk to without feeling like he had to put on a front or hide in the shadows. Adrien then mentioned a sister, and she almost had to spit out the cucumber flavored water the chefs had passed around. It was the first she had even heard of this. There had been rumors but. "...Who...who's your sister?" ____________________________________________________________________ "The bacon wrapped scallops are the best."
Okay, so maybe Shadow was being a bit upfront about the food. Nevermore had spoiled him in regards to sweets, but this..this was worth all the money being spent. Arien was also luckily no one like Gordon Ramsay would be figuratively roasting the ceremony. He added three of the things to his pile, looking over at Namine. Did Jane ask her to come along? She was so demure compared to the...livelier crowd. He hadn't seen her since the rescue from Vanitas, and, well, the less he thought of that punk, the better. He was here as a guest, not an agent of chaos like 'dad' wanted him to be.
"...How...have you ladies been?"
He inwardly scolded himself. Talking to women was a weakness of his.

Riku grinned at Sunshine's surprise. He'd wanted to keep it a secret as long as possible, but the reaction was great. "Yes hun, the only two people I'd ask to be best man are Shadow and Aqua, and I don't think Aqua quite fits as best man" he chuckled.

"Hey, if Shadow can get along with me, I think he could get along with Riku!"
Shadow was among the few people Adrien counted as close friends. Which was funny considering they met on opposite sides of the law. He knew exactly who Adrien was but chose not to act on it. Him and Sunshine both had the powers to ruin him as a person, as a businessman and lock him away for good except they didn't. He couldn't say that about most officers.
"Actually, she's my half sister, but a sister's still a sister, right?" he said. "Namine LaRue. It's why I also invited Omar and Jane. So I could get to meet them tonight."
He had yet to actually do that however, but being a host wasn't an easy thing, having to jump around to make sure everything was going okay. It was hard work but he found it was quite worth it. He glanced around the room again. Everyone seemed to be happy. Just chatting and drinking. This was the way a party should be. Nothing stiff and formal like any of the LaFayette balls. No offense to their family, but they only knew how to cater to high society. Adrien didn't think he had any friends like that aside from Weiss and perhaps Elsa if he got to know her better. But they didn't fit the mold of stereotypical rich girls.
Jane glanced to the side. Shadow and Yang were standing beside them. Both had healthy helpings of a bit of everything from the buffet that the cooks had laid out. It had been too long since Jane had last seen Yang. Unfortunately, with her now teaching and Yang now working on the police force, their schedules conflicted so it made it that much harder to meet up. However, the blonde was looking much better than she had.
"Bacon wrapped scallops huh? You sure you haven't eaten them all yet?" she laughed.
The food was good, so the recommendation was appreciated. Jane didn't want to miss out on any of it. Because the meal was prepared with as much care as one that she would cook for herself or for her dad or Namine. Okay, so maybe he had good cooks. That didn't mean anything. It could have just been he had paid off his cooks to put their all into the meal. She wasn't going to give him a green light until she met the guy.
"W-We've been okay," Namine said shyly.

Jane seemed like her usual self. That made Yang happy. She knew that any worry she'd felt about Omar lately probably paled in comparison to what Jane felt. She'd already lost Omar once, in a way. Almost losing him a second time had probably been really rough. But, if there was one thing Jane was good at, it was bouncing back from horrible incidents. She was a resilient person. Namine stuttered out a reply, so Yang figured she hadn't changed a whole lot. Granted, she'd only spoken to her a few times, but she remembered her being nice, if a bit quiet. It was almost hard to imagine that she and Adrien were actually half-siblings. But, after having a depressing family life for so long, Yang was glad that Adrien was building up his own family, regardless of whether the people were actually related to him or not. "So, how's life with your new families going?" she asked Namine. Not only had it been found out that Namine was related to Adrien, she'd also become part of Omar's family as well. It almost seemed a little nuts. But if it made Namine happy, then Yang was all for it.

"Oh, I don't know they do make women cut tuxedos," Sunshine teased. But she had seen Aqua in a dress at the masquerade. She had looked absolutely elegant. A tiny little flush appeared as she felt the human act of self-consciousness wash over her. She couldn't help it. Being surrounded by Others made her realize her human significance. As she looked over, she saw Omar watching them talk. "Um, Omar's actually right over here if you want to chat. I'm going to grab something from the bar. You...want anything?" Sunshine was asking her fiance now. Truth was, she also wanted to chat with her friends and not be the braggy type to say 'look what I caught.' ____________________________________________________ New families? Oh, right, the adoption. Then again, who hadn't been adopted by Omar LaRue in this town? In spirit, mostly, the only one the police had track of was saving Namine from her douchebag of parents. It had taken Shadow a literal bucketload of restraint to keep himself from blasting something. It didn't matter now. Namine was safe. Yang was continued to talk to her, so he looked back the brunette. Both of them were sober now, and the last time they spoke had been gathering school supplies for a third grade classroom. He had gotten news of a lockdown in the district, but it had been deemed a flase alarm and thank God it hadn't been Jane's school, or an Other Units based investigation. She was laughing at his plate, and he realized he probably had cleared an entire quarter onto his serving. He felt heat slapping onto his face, but it wasn't rage.
Was he...blushing?
He cleared his throat, trying not to think too much into it. "Ready for Christmas break, Jane?" There we go.

Riku chuckled. "Traditionally, I'm not sure it'd fly. But voodoo weddings aren't exactly traditional. But I think asking Shadow would mean a lot to you and him, and I like him a lot as an ally and friend" he looked over at the bar and shrugged. "I have duty after, so probably nothing of the alcoholic sort for me, but perhaps we can get some of that kiwi lemonade I spy? I have a soft spot for kiwi"
-
Omar walked over when Sunshine gave him an in. He waved at her and her fiance and looked at Adrien with an appraising look. He looked nice, but Omar looked like a crusty asshole and that just wasn't the case. Looks didn't mean anything. "You're the kid brother of Namine?" he asked, relatively politely. "I've been wanting to have a chat with you for a little while"

Adrien adjusted his collar self consciously when Sunshine announced that Omar had sought him out. He took a deep breath and turned to face his sister's father. Namine adored Omar to absolute pieces. Thought of him more highly than even her own father, though even Adrien hated her real father. If he wanted to keep getting to know his sister (and date Yang) he was going to have to prove to Omar he wasn't a creep and he wasn't going to try to use them the way his father used people. It was easy to be personable, but he wanted Omar to like him for him, not who he pretended to be. So he put on a good smile and held out his hand.
"Uh, yeah, I guess that would be me, wouldn't it?" he said. "It's nice to meet you, sir. I'm Adrien."
Aqua watched the room from the bar. Omar had set on his 'war path' to vet Yang's boyfriend and Namine's half brother. It was actually kind of sweet, that he wanted to be aware of who his girls were seeing. Most parents these days shrugged those things off. She had seen it. Missing kids whose parents only reported them missing because it had been days since they had last been seen but the parents barely knew about their kids in the first place. Not even a 'friend's' name let alone a favorite color. No, Omar seemed to take pride in those he knew and wanted to learn as much about them as possible, as if to commit it to memory.
"I-It's good! Adrien is really nice and Jane's like a s-sister already!" Namine chirped.
Not to mention how wonderful Omar had been to her. Elsa had been amazing walking her through the process the way she had, kind and patient. Namine finally had a loving family. She didn't want to mess that up with her timidity and insecurities. Thankfully, people were patient with her, understanding of her plights and so receptive of everything she was trying to do. Yang was Adrien's important person. He talked about her a lot so naturally, Namine wanted to get to know her better, especially if she was such an integral part of her half brother's life.
"Kids got out yesterday," Jane said happily. "Their parents sent in so many gifts and chocolates I might pop if I try to eat them all."
It happened every year. The little gifts were nice, thoughtful ways to show her students appreciated what she was doing. It varied. Everything from drawings and handmade crafts to full on gift cards and chocolates. Jane loved them all. She and Namine were working on a scrap book last night, taking pictures and labeling pages, carefully gluing in the drawings and printing the pictures of the others that wouldn't be able to be kept, like a sleigh made of candy bars or the mug of chocolates. Jane wanted to remember what each student gave her. She was already planning a nice movie day for the end of the year with snacks and goodies. Her students were like her kids. Omar had his and these were hers. Though, she wasn't prone to legally adopting them (yet). None of them needed it.

Namine instantly perked up at the mention of her new family and Yang could see how excited she was just by the tone of her voice. She didn't know the full details of Namine's previous family, only that it hadn't been great. Lucky for her, Omar was there for her. It was a special talent of his. He had a knack for being there when people needed him, and not giving up on those who needed help. "I guess it's just part of that LaRue charm," she joked. "They'll suck you into your family before you even know what hit you." She gave a laugh, although that'd certainly been the case for her as well. Omar had become a father figure to her, when she was first living on the streets and coping with the loss of her own parents. And she and Jane had clicked together with hardly any effort on their part. It was like it was meant to be.

"Okay, that's one kiwi lemonade coming up. I may or may not get one, too." Sure, the bar may or may not have been covered, but Sunshine did also want to provide good tips to whoever was making people drunk or tipsy or somewhere in between. Maybe she'd spike hers with some kind of spirit, but what the heck did she know about bartending? Baking was more her forte. But, well, it wasn't fair to act loopy at such a nice place, and to have her fiance worry about her while he was off on duty in a bit, well, that wouldn't be fair. She half-skipped, half-walked to the bar, giddy at the thought of when Shadow would be asked. She saw him chatting with Yang, Jane, and Namine at the buffet, and her heart soared again. He was actually talking and socializing. Who knew the rare social side only a select few saw could come out?
__________________________ Jealousy stabbed Shadow in the heart. Yes, the LaRues had helped out most people here, but what about the people of the city? People like him, who often went for twenty four hours without sleep protecting people from monsters? The LaRues had rescued children off the streets, yes, but what about the time a child was nearly eaten by a werewolf? Who had been there? The Others Unit. He bit back the nastiness rising - nastiness led to Disparion sneaking in to give him the whole 'destructo-boom' and his friends did not deserve it - and gave a small chuckle ith all the comments on chocolate Jane said. At least she was being respected, not just as a teacher, but as a half-Troll teacher. Not too many Others were given that kind of treatment. "Hey, nothing wrong with asking for help in eating all that. Now," his own paternal instinct fell in, teasingly, "have you been a good big sister and sharing that chocolate?"

"Go ahead and get something stronger if you want, I can always walk you home before I start my shift" Riku offered with a small smile. He watched her half walk half skip to the bar and his smile turned into a full grin. He loved her so much and all her joy just being alive just made him love her more. She was truly special. He was lucky to have her.
-
"Drop the sir kiddo" Omar said with a half grin. "I might be a dad to your half sister and a father figure to your girlfriend, but I'm just a rocker boy and a troll. No status to speak of kid" he laughed easily but his eyes watched the boy thoughtfully. He extended a hand almost lazily to be shaken. "I'm just the guy who takes care of broken people" he himself had been broken so often that it was just second nature to care for and emphasize with people who were hurting. Hence why half the town was looking up to him as a parent, uncle or brother. And maybe boyfriend to one very special lady now. That made him happier beyond belief. But, on to business. "Call me the mender or something. I don't care" he laughed again.

Adrien gave a nervous laugh. Did he muck things up already? He was trying to put his best foot forward with Omar. He wasn't sure how to interact with someone so crucial to Namine and Yang. He didn't do well with father figures after all. His own father hadn't been the greatest of men. The only good role models Adrien possibly had in his life was Tom, Natalie and Shadow. To be fair, the list was only that short because he had never gotten to do anything other than 'work' with the other adults. They only saw him as someone to try to sway to their side, not a person, not like his friends.
"Right." he said slowly. "Well thanks for taking care of Namine. I'm glad she had someone..."
If he had only known... He had a feeling his father kept this a secret from him simply because his mother's affair would have made for a scandal in the news. His father was all about reputation and image. An affair was never good. Neither were scandals. He had gotten some nasty letters concerning Yang and now he was getting some about Namine. Both of which only angered him. But he was storing them, keeping them in case those psycho fans tried to hurt either woman.
"I-I was lucky." Namine said.
She was surrounded by friends and family. Never in a million years did she ever think she would end up like this. The thought alone used to make her tear up, but she was past that. Instead, she felt an overwhelming gratitude towards everyone who decided that she was worth the time of day. It started with her friends in the BPD and had worked it's way up since then. She still felt like there were days where she would wake up from the 'dream' and be alone once again.
"She sneaks some when she thinks I'm not paying attention." Jane shrugged. "But I'd share if she asked."
It would appear that Namine's sweet tooth was quite infamous, even among the BPD. She was, after all, a regular of Nevermore. Sunshine worked at both places. Not to mention, her dad had also fixed Namine a bunch of sweets to help soothe her nerves after that asshole Vanitas. The fact that he got out, pissed Jane off to no end, but he wasn't the only criminal who got out, it was hard for the BPD to catch them all again. They were already working old cases on top of new cases as well as the fresh breakouts.
"What about you, Shadow?" she asked. "You got any big plans for the holidays?"

Yang had to nod in agreement. Namine was lucky. Omar would be the best dad in the world to her. And Adrien finally had a relative that he could actually bond with after being estranged from this father for so long. She glanced at Namine, wondering how things were going with the two. She knew Adrien was still being careful when it came to Namine. He was worried about doing something wrong and scaring her off. In a way, he'd done the same with Yang after she'd lost her arm. He'd done everything with the utmost care around her, lest he make her upset or trigger a traumatizing flashback. Yang knew that was a good quality in a guy, but it also meant that Adrien could end up ignoring his own needs to make someone else happy. "How have things been with you and Adrien?" she finally asked.
