The smirk of confidence the lawyer wore became a grimace of distain. He had probably expecting something along the lines of immediate release and then Vanitas forking over whatever payment that the two had negotiated for the man's time. The lawyer smoothed the papers in his hands before sighing.
"Very well," the lawyer said, "But I'd like to speak with my client first. If his emotional state is as impressionable as you say, then I'm afraid your interview is over. And I'll see what we can do about having both parties drop charges."
To Aqua's credit, she gave no indication of surprise as Pitch spoke. Though she was rather surprised with how easily he took charge and handled the lawyer. He had covered more bases than even she would have thought to cover. She looked up at her partner for the night, wondering how many times he had done this before on his undercover operations. But it was slightly disheartening to hear that Pitch had not gotten a word out of Vanitas. But with all things considered, Aqua was still impressed with how much headway Pitch had made. It was a lot more than what Aqua had gotten accomplished in the same period of time. The contradictory statements didn't help prove either way who started the fight or who didn't.
Namine hesitated for a moment before she took Omar's hand. She smiled. "I-It'll be okay." Namine assured him quietly. "T-They know what they're doing." The girl's faith in the BPD was unwavering. She had only seen the officers through her own rose-tinted glasses and she admired them for everything they did. She knew Omar didn't feel the same, but perhaps one day he would see they did their best despite being looked down on for the Others Unit.

Omar caught the slight nod as a warning and fell silent. He gently squeezed Namine's hand and rolled his eyes. "The demon cop seems to know what he's doing" the troll conceded. "But I have my doubts about anyone else on the force" He did not hold them in high regards at all and despised them with the passion of a thousand fiery suns but for Namine's sake he was going to remain calm and give the cops the benefit of the doubt.

Pitch merely gave a nod of his head, his appearance one of professionalism despite the fact that he had clearly turned the situation for Vanitas' lawyer on its head and ensured that Omar would not be stuck with the blame for the situation.
"Of course. Your client is this way."
Without another word, Pitch led the lawyer to the interrogation room and opened the door for the man, ignoring Vanitas as completely as before as the lawyer walked in and sat down across from the demon. Pitch let his gaze pass over Vanitas briefly before smirking and closing the door. A moment later he had returned to the holding cells and even gave a small smile to Aqua.
"It is unfortunate that we were not able to pin this on Vanitas but we will not need to worry about yonder troll suffering the fallout."
Speaking of Omar, it was clear that Namine was feeling sympathetic to his situation and the two were speaking softly to each other through the bars of the cell. Interesting.

The lawyer huffed before following after Pitch and into the room with Vanitas. The irritated demon who had been left to stew alone, seemed to perk up a little more when his lawyer walked in. He glowered at Pitch.
"About time," Vanitas groused.
Aqua sighed after the lawyer left. She smoothed a hand through her hair and took a deep breath to recollect herself. She was left on edge despite that. She was working too many cases and there just weren't enough hours in the day to get these things done. These cases were starting to wear her a bit thin. Her days off were too few and too far between these days. She smiled up at her partner for the night. He really was a mercy on this night. He seemed to be handling himself just fine, despite the circumstances. Her she was, unable to even handle a lawyer. How embarrassing...
"Thank you Pitch," Aqua breathed. "I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't stepped in when you did."
Namine squeezed his hand in return. She looked up at Omar. He really did seem to hate the cops. She didn't know if this meant he disliked her too because she worked for them. She wasn't technically an officer but she was still 'on the force' so to speak. But she kept that notion to herself, too afraid to broach the subject.
"They do their best," Namine insisted.

Omar shrugged from behind bars. "Maybe, maybe not" he said. If they were really doing their best there would be less crime, less kids in bad places and less assholes like himself or Vanitas running around. But he didn't say that to Namine. Instead he squeezed her hand again and blew his bangs out of his face. "What kind of music do you like Namine?" He asked suddenly.

Pitch raised a hand to stop Aqua in the act of praising how he had handled the lawyer. He turned to look at the younger Faery, allowing a small smile to finally break through his perfectly controlled façade.
"You will learn, Detective Malone. My time with the BPD and my previous....experiences have outfitted me well to deal with such individuals as yonder street-level demon and his pompous lawyer. Given enough time you will also gain the experience and skill to handle these situations by yourself with ease."
Pitch fell silent as he continued to observe Namine and Omar talking and although he couldn't hear what was being discussed, he had an inkling it didn't deviate too far from the BPD.
"It would appear that Miss Namine has made the acquaintance of Mr. Omar."

Aqua looked away. Her ex-partner used to shoulder most of those burdens. At first she hadn't even noticed, but then, when it came time for her to do those things on her own, she realized how grossly unprepared she had been. But she smiled never the less. Pitch was the type to lead by example. But she looked over to see Namine and Omar, talking softly between the two of them. What surprised the fey was that Namine was holding Omar's hand. The little blonde tended to shy away from everyone.
"Might not be a bad thing," Aqua mused. "Do you think we should tell him he might get off or wait for the lawyer to give us an answer?"
Namine frowned. Confusion swept over her features but her mind quickly scrambled for an answer. She hadn't listened to music in a long time. But she smile as she remembered the type of music she did like. She remembered waking up every morning and hearing her mother play the piano. That was until the woman left and Namine was alone with her father. But the piano music always seemed to fill the house with so much warmth and happiness.
"Piano." she said.
The lawyer stepped of the room, leaving his client behind for the time being, despite the demon being rather annoyed at being left behind - again. He had to tell the two officers the verdict the duo had come to.

Omar nodded and smiled sheepishly. "I never learned how to play but my old girlfriend Marie did. She was always offering to teach me but I was happy with my guitar, ya know? We made a great duet" He sighed and squeezed Namine's hand for comfort. He still missed Marie and their two children. "You remind me of my daughter, Jane" he told Namine with a smile. "She was always gentle and loved the piano too. Could be pretty feisty but she was for the most part a pretty chill little girl" he chuckled, remembering her days as a baby. His Jane had gone too soon. They all had.

Pitch continued to watch Namine and Omar for a moment while listening to Aqua's inquiry on if they should tell Omar of his possible freedom. However, he didn't attempt to reply as only a moment later the door opened and Vanitas' lawyer stepped into the interrogation room. Even though it was clear the man had tried to keep his cool and confident exterior intact, the demon could tell he was annoyed by the way the situation had gone.
"I have discussed the situation with my client and he has agreed...reluctantly to drop the assault charges on Mr. Omar. However, if Mr. Omar offers any further issues for Mr. Vanitas, he will be fully charged with no leniency shown to him by the BPD. Am I clear Detective Malone? Detective Black?"
The lawyer had the kind of puffed-up chested, beware my connections look on his face that probably set most people on edge. However, Pitch merely gave a small smile of complete ease before speaking in a perfectly calm voice.
"Of course. Shall I see you and Vanitas out?"

"Yes, I understand," Aqua said, giving a non-committing answer. "Pitch, if you take care of Vanitas and his lawyer, I'll see Mr. LaRue out."
She understood it, but she didn't have to agree. It all depended on the circumstances, especially if she had to bring the duo in again. Vanitas had done more damage to the man in the cells than that man had done to him. No one just threw glass bottles at someone and got glass that deeply without some form of rage issues and worst of all becoming a repeat offender. Despite this demon's current standing with the government, Aqua would be watching him closely. She had a sinking feeling he would try to use this immunity to get away with a lot but he didn't seem to realize that if he did, then he would become such an annoyance that keeping him on the streets for information wouldn't be worth that hassle. Aqua fished her keys out of her pocket to go and release Omar from his cell. She nodded to Pitch before heading to the holding cell.
Namine noticed the way he past tense to describe his family. He looked so sad, even though he was smiling, like it didn't hurt to think about them. She didn't know how such a good person could end up in jail over a bar scuffle. To the little blonde, there had to have been some mistake. He couldn't have gotten into a bar fight. It didn't make sense.
"They sound so nice," Namine said softly

Omar reached through the bars with his other hand and patted the hand that was holding his. "They were very nice" he said softly. "But they are all gone now" he saw Aqua walking toward them and scowled softly. "About freaking time" He said to her, though not in as gruff a tone as he normally would have used. "Maybe I need to start getting a lawyer so I can get out faster. But I guess the demon freak decided to drop charges? Best news of the night" He already knew he wasn't getting paid so there was that, and he might lose his band. Not a good night at all. "Are there any rules I have to abide by to avoid him pressing charges?"

Pitch gave a slight nod before walking out to the interrogation room with the lawyer in tow and opening the door to where Vanitas was still sitting with a highly annoyed look on his face.
The lawyer didn't wait to step into the room and collect his client.
"We are leaving now, Mr. Vanitas."
Pitch didn't say anything, perfectly content to see the other demon out of the BPD. While he and Aqua hadn't been able to see Vanitas charged with his crime, he had gained some useful insight into the informant and maneuvered the situation in such a way that Omar would not be held accountable for Vantias' actions.
Now he merely stood to the side as the lawyer waited for his client to follow him out of the room, only offering Vanitas the same smirk he had given him during the entire interview.

"I'm s-so-"
Namine's jaw clamped shut when the blue faery walked up. She looked down, afraid she had done something to upset the officer by being there. She wasn't supposed to be by the holding cells but Omar had asked her to stay so she had. She didn't want to get in trouble. Or get Omar into any trouble, especially since he had been arrested for fighting!
Aqua sighed. It was a common reaction from the little blonde. She was scared around new people and Aqua wasn't exactly close enough to the sketch artist to be considered a friend.
"You're free to go, Mr. LaRue." Aqua said, unlocking the cell doors. "Just... try to avoid him if you can. Also, those bandages of yours are going to need changing every four to six hours."
Vanitas stepped out of the room. He shot a smug look in Pitch's direction, as if gloating over the fact that he and Aqua could not make the charges against him stick. He followed his lawyer to the front door of the offices, more than eager to be out of the presinct and away from the idiotic cops that thought the silent treatment would get answers.
"I'd say this has been fun, but it really hasn't." Vanitas said.

Omar nodded curtly at the cop and stepped out of the cells. He looked at Namine and sighed. "Do you want me to walk you home again?" He could at least do that much before he had to meet his band and besides, he kind of wanted to. Omar looked over at Aqua with a 'no shit' expression on his face. "I won't go near him again if you paid me" said the troll curtly. "No need to tell me what I already know" he looked down at his arms and nodded again. "Thanks for these, then. Also, where is my guitar?" He looked back at Namine. "I mean it, I'll walk you home again. No problem He said

"Oh, I don't know about that. I found it quite amusing myself."
Pitch said this quietly to Vanitas as the demon offered his own nasty grin and a matching comment to go with it. However, even if Vanitas had gotten away this time, Pitch knew it was only a matter of time before his usefulness to the government ran out and his legal protection disappeared. And now that he knew the demon's fears, he could manipulate him like a novice chess player going up against a master. He might think he was winning the game, but wouldn't even realize it when his king was taken.
"Good evening, Vanitas."
