John and Wendy suggested time at Nevermore would ease Sunshine’s stress. Ever since she found clues to getting Shadow out, she had been working without food or sleep. Wendy had kidnapped her and dragged her intoned Nevetmore, ordering her to sit and eat. Sunshine obliged, sipping the hazelnut coffee, but rather than eating her chicken and cheese croquette, she crumbled the Pablo into a neat pile.

For the moment, it looked like things had settled down. The earlier pandemonium and chaos of those first few moments of the apocalypse had been replaced with eerie quiet. And Yang wasn't sure which one bothered her more. She'd been patrolling the streets for the past few hours, a change of pace from deciphering the clues Shadow had left behind. She at least felt useful when she took down a demon or a monster that was hurting someone. Failing to find any leads made her feel like an idiot, like maybe she could solve the riddle if she was a bit smarter. She sighed as she passed by store after store on her motorcycle, most of them abandoned. There was one with its lights still on though: the Nevermore Coffeehouse and Bakery. She gave a small smile. It figured that Sunshine's parents would keep the place running. No doubt they wanted to provide a safe haven, and some food, to anyone who needed it. Parking her bike out front, she opened the doors to find it mostly deserted, save for one familiar blonde head. "Hey," she said, giving Sunshine a wave.

"Yang!" Sunshine let a genuine smile cross her face as the golden-haired half phoenix walked in. Had it not been for the raging apocalypse outside, she would have thought it was just any normal day and she and Yang were going to sit and talk about boys or whatever. Constantine wasn't here to rub them the wrong way, knock on wood, so she could finally be at ease. The crumbs she had picked from the croquette fell like a greasy shower. Her appetite was returning, and Wendy was returning with a broom to sweep up the crumbs flung out carelessly by her daughter. A joke scolding look and a refill of hazelnut coffee were all she gave before she left.

Sunshine's gloomy mood seemed to pick up once she caught sight of Yang. And while Yang was glad to make her friend feel a little happier, she felt bad that she couldn't really solve her main problem: finding Shadow. Then again, finding the right kind of help for that would take some work. How could they get to purgatory without actually dying? It was a difficult question to answer, and doing something crazy like selling a soul or making a deal with a shady person was out of the question right now. She sat across from Sunshine as her mom came in, seeming to act like normal despite everything that had happened so far. "Your mom seems to be taking the apocalypse well," she joked.

"She wants me to get my mind off it. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't working." For the briefest moment, the sparkle that used to always be in Sunshine's large green eyes was returning. Not much to smile at when she thought of her best friend in purgatory. But she needed to focus on her other best friend, the cop who was sitting across from her alive and well. Sunshine sipped her hazelnut coffee, trying to think of a topic that didn't involve gloom and doom. Her mother said moping on this would only make it worse. "So, how's the motorbike?"

Yang gave a little laugh. Nothing like a little motherly love to brighten things up. Too bad it couldn't fix what was going on. At Sunshine's question about her bike, she gave a shrug. "It's doing okay. Hasn't gotten trashed or anything since this whole thing started. I just hope the gas stations hang in there so I can keep puttering around." Gas stations always went nuts during a crisis. Even for regular things like hurricanes, people were so desperate to fuel up and head out that some gas stations just ran out. Of course, in this situation, there was also the possibility of monsters blowing them up or something.

"Ain't that the truth," Sunshine said with a snicker. "I mean it looks nice, too. Wouldn't want it to pucker our or be stolen by a demon." The only way she had for getting around town besides the police car was Thomas' beat up pickup truck that he used to get to his regular job. That job was now on hold due to the building being razed by a vampire clan. Thomas luckily had come out okay and didn't get bitten. Gas stations were something she hadn't thought much about, apart from watching the hoses guzzle out oil and spew prices that was hard to come by.

"Well, Adrien wasn't going to let me drive a piece of crap when he helped me pick it out," she joked. Technically, buying the bike had been a collab rather than Adrien paying for whole thing, but still. He wanted the best for her, and she wanted something that was fast and sleek. She gazed out a nearby window for a moment, hoping Adrien was okay. Last she'd talked to him, he'd been using his mansion as a safe haven for anyone who needed shelter. She hoped he was doing okay. Adrien was far from helpless, but she wasn't sure how much his "Chat Noir" skills would come in handy during the apocalypse.

Sunshine laughed. "You know, I'm sure Riku would have been the same way if I asked for help in picking out a car." Yang's bike had been a very impressive piece to work to say the least. She was no bike expert, but she was pretty sure it would turn heads whenever she drove the streets with it. The thing had been a very beneficial means for Yang. She followed Yang's gaze out to the street. Ever since they moved into the new house, Sunshine missed just coming home and curling on the couch next to her husband for odd 'netflix and chill' or whatever.

Yang gave a little laugh in return. "Don't we have the most doting boyfriends?" she said jokingly. "Or husband, in your case." It was kind of odd, having a conversation like this with the end of the world going on outside. But it made things almost feel...normal. And Yang could use a little normal right now. Maybe if she tried hard enough, she could just pretend that she and Sunshine were just catching up on a break before heading back to work. She'd join Pitch and Sunshine would start her shift with Shadow... Yang shook the thought away. Thinking about Shadow made her stomach tighten with worry. She wanted to find him, but she felt like time was running out. And a tiny part of her brain still feared that she might be too late, that he'd end up dead just like her parents. Losing her mom and dad was hard enough, she didn't want to think about what losing one of her parental figures would do.

"Did I even tell you about the one time I woke up and Riku had two little voodoo dolls bring me breakfast?" Sunshine snickered. Most people would have found it terrifying. Two little dolls made with nothing but yarn and thread walking in carrying a cup of hazelnut coffee and a plate of pancakes just trotting across the bed to leave it by the bedside table. It also didn't help they were the size of a wadded up sock. It was a benefit Sunshine had over Yang; while Chat had a secret vigilante identity, Riku could do parlor tricks that made the simplest of tasks something enchanting.

Yang tried to put aside her gloomy thoughts and focus on the conversation. Sunshine's bit about Riku using voodoo dolls to bring breakfast was kind of funny. Who knew that a guy from one of the most powerful voodoo families ever could use his powers for something so adorable? "I just hope that Constantine guy he found isn't causing any trouble," she said. Constantine had helped well enough back at the graveyard, but he was a wild card. He wasn't exactly on Disparion's side, but he seemed to be attached to Cruella. Who knew what he might do now?

Sunshine massaged her temples. "I know. I don't trust Constantine, especially with him having ties to the gang at Mina." The Others Unit had been banned from entering the nightclub. The only time they could go in was by being undercover. Sunshine herself avoided it because of her fear of vampires, usually choosing to work outside security on those missions. She sighed, "The good news is we found the long lost lab where Project Shadow took place. It's our biggest clue yet."

Yang looked up. Sunshine had found another clue? That made her feel a little more hopeful about finding Shadow. "Did it give any hints about how to get into purgatory?" she asked. Really, that was the main issue here. Of course, there was also the problem of finding a way back once they actually got to purgatory, but Yang felt like that was something they could worry about later.

"Still kind of in the dark on that part. Sorry." The odd disc that they found was being studied, so until that was done, it was time to play the painful waiting game, which was Sunshine was doing. She was distracting herself with food and friends, but she was pretty sure she'd be obese in the span of a few days. It made her glad that some other cops were just as worried about finding Shadow as she was. It made her feel less alone.
