"Well, glad to know I at least know ONE fighter," Shadow sounded relieved at that. Now, he could go into the fight rings and not have to make awkward small talk with some of the people. The only person he had ever "talked" to was a were girl named San who really gave a new meaning to the term "dog fighting." And even then, he didn't know her well enough like Yang to have a decent conversation with her that didn't involve punches. He gave a genuine, low laugh at her comment. She could probably kick his butt while he was stuck in this human form. If the Sapien wore off in 48 hours like the packaging said, thee'd be an easier advantage. 'Just because I'm not supersonic anymore doesn't mean I've lost my touch," he teased.
He had been so engrossed with talking to Yang, that he didn't even notice Sunshine walking by. But, then again with her brown hair, she blended in much easier into the crowds. It wasn't until she let out a mellow, "Hey, guys," that he noticed. He patted the area of the wall next to her for her to recline next to. The baker forced a grin onto her face. "What did you do to him, Yang? Because the only person who gets Shadow to legitimately smile or laugh is me."

Yang gave a little laugh. Despite being human now, Shadow seemed to be coping well enough. At least he looked a little more perked up now. She wasn't sure if it was because of her, but she was glad to see him smiling a little bit. When Sunshine joined the conversation, it took Yang a moment to recognize her. But, she realized that it was still her. Her hair was just short and brown now instead of long and blonde. "Oh, Sunshine, hey. How's it going?" Her friend sounded a bit down. Yang tucked her blonde hair behind her back, almost if trying not to remind Sunshine what she had lost. When she asked what Yang had done to make Shadow smile, she gave a shrug. "I guess we both just love talking about punching people?" she joked.

Just a very trace of a smile crossed Sunshine's face. Yang and Shadow would be the type who talked about punches, maybe even comparing battle scars. She shrugged in answer to Yang's question. "It could be better. Dad gave me the afternoon off." she always always called her stepfather Dad due to the absence of her biological father.
"Let me guess," Shadow knew that awkward smile of Sunshine well. When she wasn't doing something crafty, she was always unsure what to do, "you have no idea what to do."
Sunshine nodded, ducking her eyes down. "It's embarrassing. I'be lived here however long and I don't know what to do that's fun around here...at least, what normal people consider fun."

Something fun, huh? Yang thought for a moment. She took the kids out sometimes, when there was enough money to spare or somebody offered to treat them. Where were some places that Shadow and Sunshine would like? "There's an arcade next to a pizza parlor downtown," she said. "You could practically spend a whole afternoon there and not even notice time going by." She wasn't sure if an arcade would be considered too kiddy, but it was the first thing that came to mind. Plus, pizza tended to make everything better.

An arcade and pizza parlor? How come this had never come up to them until now? Both cops looked at one another. Sunshine was about to comment on not worrying about pizza since she could make crust from scratch, but something stopped her. That being a pit in her stomach that had come up. She needed more than her regular food to keep her satisfied.
"...you know, pizza does sound good right now,"
"Besides, arcade shooting is better than no shooting at all," Shadow pointed out. "Lead the way, valiant streetwiser."

Yang smiled, glad to see that Shadow and Sunshine were on board with her idea. "Sweet. It's only a couple of blocks down." The last time she had gone there was with the kids and Jane. That had been a pretty fun afternoon, before all this crazy stuff had started to happen. Yang hoped that whoever was in charge of this Sapien drug would be caught soon, for her sake as well as those that were already affected.

"Double sweet," Sunshine echoed her friend's enthusiasm. Deep down, she was excited. Excitement was way better than the cloud of depression that had been following her. She and Shadow stepped side by side to follow Yang down the brick roads.
As they walked, Shadow had two mindsets warring with each other. The first was it was the first time since being kicked off the force that he felt like he was having a genuinely good time. He and Sunshine hardly ever got out. There was a temptation in his human form to grab her hand, since now he was taller than she was. But would that be awkward? She brushed against him playfully, and he sufficed with replacing hand holding with a returning brush.
The second mindset was having memories of these very roads. The dark alleyways had been his home until he had joined the force. He was going back and forth between sentiment and resentment of how hard it had been.
Sunshine sniffed the air. Was that,..fresh bread? Garlic? All of that? She only associated pizza, really good quality ones, with that smell. "God, that smell is to die for."
"You get spoiled by it pretty quick." Shadow remarked "Before I got my place at the FrogPrince, I'd only come in here if I managed to scrounge just some money."

Yang ran a hand through her hair as she walked down the street next to her two friends. Was it just her, or was Shadow glancing at Sunshine every so often? She knew the two of them were close, but she was never sure exactly how close. Maybe it was best to keep her thoughts to herself, at least until she had more info. The last time she had attempted to play matchmaker was when she had first met Jane. Having no idea that she was Omar's daughter, she had led her to one of his gigs, thinking that she was going to get Omar together with a groupie. Luckily, the plan had been demolished quickly once she found out what their real relationship was. She smiled when Sunshine caught whiff of the pizza place. It soon came into view, with the arcade next door. While the two establishments were owned by different people, they knew that customers tended to head to one after the other, so there was a friendly relationship between them. "Here we are!" Yang said cheerfully. "Welcome to Tony's Pizza and Arcade City." She gave a flourish of her hand like a showman displaying a grand prize. "Any preference on which one we hit up first?"

The chipperness in Yang's voice was contagious. Normally, the bright, enthusiastic tones came from Sunshine. considering the Sapien Barber Shop, she needed someone to cheer me up. Both venues looked pleasant and charming, so it was tough to pick between the two.
"What would you recommend doing first? You're the expert," Sunshine pointed out

Yang thought for a moment before deciding. "Let's get some grub first. We can burn off all the calories playing skee ball or something." That was what she tended to do with her kids. Pizza could make them pretty hyper, and playing games afterwards was a good way to use all their excess energy. A bell rang above her head as Yang walked through the door. Tony's was a quaint little place, but people tended to like the cozy environment. "How about you guys grab a table while I order?" Yang asked. "What toppings do you like?"

Pizza it was. The cops followed Yang into the pizzeria, which was built like any good pizzeria would. The walls were exposed brick, the tables were spread with checkered tablecloths, small vials of Parmesan and red pepper flakes sat nearby, and a collection of pies were warming under a red bulb, flashing their wares.
Shadow answered first. "I'm pretty standard. Pepperoni and mushrooms. This one," he nodded to Sunshine, "you may need to look out for"
"Hey!" Sunshine swatted indignantly. "I'm not that bad!" She tucked a very short hair strand out of her face. "My favorite's Hawaiian."

Shadow and Sunshine's preferences were pretty standard, even though Yang wasn't a huge fan of pineapple on pizza. It just felt weird, putting fruit on pizza. But, she wasn't about start a "pineapple on pizza" debate right now. She was here to cheer these two up, mainly Sunshine. She figured one large pizza could cover the three of them. And if they got hungry later, there was always the vending machines at the arcade. Yang found it a pretty convenient place to snag a couple of candy bars. "Right. We can probably divy that up three ways." She headed up to the counter and quickly ordered a customized pizza that was one third Hawaiian, one third pepperoni and mushrooms, and one third red peppers. That had always been Yang's favorite pizza topping. Once her bill was rung up, all she, Sunshine, and Shadow had to do was wait.

"At least let one of us get the tip," Sunshine offered. Yang was being a friend in paying for the large. Yes, a large would feed all of them, and counting leftovers, could support the kids Yang looked after and the two of them as leftovers after a long night. Nights that would give much needed rest; at least, she hoped it would let her catch up on some shut eye. After Yang took the bill, she slid a few dollars to the cashier, weakly smiling up at him before looking around. "At least they have the decency to hang up pictures here," she sighed.
Shadow just looked at Sunshine half-concerned, half relieved. To get some positivity, albeit very minor, was a start of cheering up in the right direction. "Red peppers, huh? That doesn't surprise me. I hear in the southwest, they have those ghost chiles."
"Aren't those the ones that are so hot, you need to sign a waver?" Sunshine asked.
"And some idiot ate one and died not realizing he washed it down with snake venom? Yep." Sure, the topic was maccabre, but at least talk of a dead body made him feel less away from work. If it hadn't been a confirmed death by stupidity, maybe a unit there could have been called to see what kind of creature would have killed him. "but our half Phoenix friend's tough."

Yang was about to protest Sunshine having to pay anything, but she realized that it wasn't a battle she wanted to fight. Sunshine made the offer, she might as well accept it. She had to laugh at Shadow's story about ghost peppers, even if it was a bit grim. "Eh, natural selection at its best, I guess," she said. Dead bodies were probably talked about a lot anyway, in Shadow and Sunshine's line of work. Heck, she remembered running into Anna and how much she loved examining them. "Tough as nails, that's me," she said with a grin. At least, she liked to think she was. She knew that doubts will lingered in her mind about the past couple of weeks, and the incidents that involved her getting into some situation that required somebody to save her. She hated being the damsel, and she hoped it wasn't a role she'd have to play in the future.

There was something in Yang's eyes when she agreed with the statement. Shadow understood why she was hesitant to talk about it. He had been the one who saved Yang from getting beat up by Thrax at the ball. The events was far behind compared to the Sapien assault, but to some people, the creepy demon was something they couldn't forget. The Others Unit hadn't called off the search yet on him, which was a huge relief. Thrax was just as much of a threat, if not greater, than Sapien was. But, he knew well how much wounded pride kept one from having a good time - just look at Sunshine, who had lost her healing from a Sapien laced haircut - so, he thought of a lighter topic. "So, getting tired of pumpkin flavors yet, Sunny?"
Sunshine's mouth fell wide open. The only thing she could do in that moment of minor insult was throw her water at her partner, who became doused upon impact.
"I'm melting," he said with no emotion at all.
Sunshine slammed her cup down. "Damn it. So much for finding out if you were a witch. By the way...how is your memory hunt going? You said you may have found a lead."
Shadow's face became a mixed mask. How could be put his memory recollection by doing something outside the law be put easily? Maybe he could have left the part of the restricted area out. Oh, and the part about that demonic Disparion character. He had still no clues as to who this guy was. The only time the name had come was from...a homicide involving a cult that specialized in devil worship in the 1980s. He did find one physical clue which seemed harmless, though. He fished out a sepia toned photo of a bespecled blading man with a handlebar mustache. Over his shoulder stood a girl about twelve or so. Her blonde hair was tucked back with a headband. Her blue eyes were innocent, wide, and full of determination. If they were lavender or green, she could have mistaken for a younger Sunshine or Yang.
"This is Professor Edgar Gerald. Apparently he and I had a connection before the Black War. He needed someone to look over his granddaughter Maria. She had gotten sick. Very sick. The kind of sick where just going outside would kill her. Worse, her condition was killing her. So, her grandpa wanted her to have the happiest times she could before she died if he couldn't get a cure in time."
"Maria...that's the girl who got killed, right?" Sunshine asked.
Shadow nodded. "Yeah. Apparently the government didn't like the professor dabbling too much with Others, so they sent soldiers to kill off everyone who knew about his work. The professor wanted me to get Maria out of there. I grabbed her hand, we ran. Maria put me in a hatch to get me down to Bellerouge. But when she was pulling the lever...."
DING.
The bell for the pizza rang, cutting the story short.
