Yang had to admit, when she saw how nervous everybody was in the city, she had no idea that it was because of a new drug that caused supernatural creatures to turn human. At least, that was what she had been told earlier this morning. She had attempted again to get into some kind of legal fight to get cash, after the whole incident with Cinder, Emerald, and Mercury was behind her. The guy running the event hadn't asked too many questions, which Yang appreciated. Some people were iffy about minors doing this sort of thing. When she asked why everyone was on edge though, he gave her the answer, and she had been mulling it over ever since. That was the main reason why she was walking in circles around the French Quarter, wondering if she should get involved. Pitch had already said that she might be needed to track down Cinder and the rest of her gang. Yang wanted to keep her involvement with police affairs at the minimum. But, she couldn't deny that this was an issue that could affect her, as well as Louie and Jenny. They had powers of their own, after all. Yang didn't want them to suddenly lose them. She sighed as she leaned against a lamppost, wondering what she should do.

OTHERS UNIT DISBANDED. The headline was flashing on every newspaper that weekend. Pictures of before-after shots of several cops were shown. One cop wasn't pictured, but he was glaring at the picture, his red eyes - the only thing he had to distinguish he was an Other and still the "Mr. Prickly" cop - narrowing in distaste. People were ignorant to the problems only Others could solve. He crumpled the paper and tossed it into a nearby wastebin, growling in annoyance. But he was mad about other things, things he would vent to when Sunshine got off her shift.
Or maybe not. A flash of blonde hair caught his eyes, and just for a brief moment, his ire subsided. But one problem; Yang wouldn't see him as the pale skinned, stubbled man. The only things that set him as who he was were his eyes and the red streaks in his hair.
Shadow reclined against the exposed brick of the building, asking as she passed, "Excuse me; any chance you know where Nevermore is? I'm meeting a friend when she gets off work."

Yang was brought out of her thoughts when she realized somebody had asked her a question. She looked up to see that it was a young man, who seemed to favor the color red. At least, that was what color his eyes were and he had streaks of it in his hair as well. "Oh, it's...down that way," she said, pointing down the street. "Once you hit the river, you're getting close." She glanced back at the man, her brow furrowing in confusion. "Sorry, but have we...met before?" she asked. Something about him seemed awfully familiar, but she couldn't quite figure out why.

Shadow expected this. Yang didn't recognize him. But then she came back, saying he seemed familiar. Well, time to show along with tell. He pulled out something that would be partially useful; his Louisiana I.D. The scowling face of the red and black hedgehog matched the best impression he could make. The other thing that had stayed the same? His now useless hover skates, which had been kind enough to merge to his new body. "I'd say I'm undercover, but the news sort of writes itself."

Yang was still puzzled as the man handed her an I.D. But, to her surprise, it showed a picture of Shadow. What the... Suddenly, Yang's eyes widened. She glanced back and forth from the man, to the I.D., back to the man again. Of course, she was starting to realize that this was no stranger in front of her. "Shadow?" she asked in disbelief. "What on earth..." Somehow, Shadow had turned human. Some parts of him were the same, like his hair and eyes, but other than that, he looked totally different. Had he gotten caught up in that drug business?

Shadow tucked the ID back as she followed the small thread woven in front of them. She knew it was him, but there were questions. Lots of questions. Well, it was time to break down the big story piece by piece. First, he nodded in confirmation that it, indeed, was him.
"It's a long story," he said with a sigh. "Let's just say the hottest news story is one I'm a part of, Sunshine is too."

"Then you guys got...caught up in that weird drug business that's been going on?" That sounded bad, really bad. "Are there any other officers like this? How did it happen? How long does it last? Is there any way to cure it?" The questions tumbled out of Yang's mouth like an avalanche. This was something very concerning to her. If she didn't have her fire powers, she'd lose a considerable advantage when going into the ring. Sure, she could still kick and punch people, but adding a fireball or two tended to help her come out on top. Not to mention, it was pretty handy when things got cold and she could start a fire with a snap of her fingers.

Shadow looked at the ground. The questions were coming out, but it was out of order. He hated feeling the way he did, absolutely useless. It didn't help that he didn't have his inhibitor rings, either. Not that he needed them now, but a habit to get his nerves back was to just touch the very edge. If it wore off, his powers would be overloaded and he would be mostly exhausted, or worse, impossible to control.
"We located the group who started carrying Sapien, Gray Dawn," He began. The news was just touching on the buzz stories. The root of the matter lay in the Gray Dawn. Maybe a few journalists were members. "They're an anti-Others group that's just begin to emerge. When word got out about the Sapien they were handing out, we were quick to act. We found the warehouse where they situated...but it was a trap. They shot Pitch...then me...they cut Sunshine's hair..." he clenched his fist mentioning that. Yes, Sunshine decked the person good, but that person would get pay once Shadow got his power back. "Chat Noir helped us out..." at this point he was just half-rambling, "...I blacked out after that, I exerted too much chaos energy trying to get us out...next thing I know, I'm lying in a hospital bed with a damn ache where they shot me." He put a hand on his bandaged shoulder. "Then the department threw all of us off the squad until he got our abilities back."

"Jeez..." Yang couldn't believe it. Shadow, Sunshiine, and Pitch without their powers? It must be scary, for all of them. Although, the idea of Pitch being scared was almost too impossible for her to imagine. While her view of him was a bit more positive than it used to be, she still felt conflicted on whether she could consider him a friend, or whether she could trust him entirely. However, her head shot up once Shadow mentioned Chat's name. Truthfully, she hadn't talked to him since their chat on the Stella's roof after the ball. She didn't even know if he knew that Cinder had tried to kill her to get to him. She didn't even want to think about that conversation. But, her concern for Chat made her blurt out "Chat? Is he okay? He didn't get hurt, did he?" As far as she knew, he was a normal guy, so the drug probably wouldn't affect him, but still.

"He's fine. No one shot at him. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be standing here." But that was all Shadow could really answer. He had been in a state between fatigue and high alert when they dragged him out. That and a huge memory relapse reaccounting Maria's death at the thought of Sunshine getting hurt had put him dreamland. But he knew there had been no gunshots when he had gotten out of the warehouse.

Yang was relieved to hear that, although her face did turn a bit red when she realized she had sounded like a frantic mother when asking about Chat. She hadn't even mentioned him to anybody until now. The only person who knew she had anything to do with him was Pitch, and that was only because of what had happened with Cinder's gang. "Oh, that's...good," she said, trying to cover up her embarrassment. "That's great. I'm glad he's...everyone's okay." Maybe "okay" was an understatement, but at least nobody had died. Yang considered that a plus in her book.

Shadow tittered weakly. "Yeah, we're okay." Even the smile he gave was a bit on the minuscule side. Sunshine was absolutely dismayed when she heard the news, and often went through days of crying on and off. Shadow had often just stayed with her until she was done crying or had fallen asleep. As for him, he was just emotionally drained and confused. Confused on his memory, confused who this eye that kept following him in his mind was, and deep down, what he was conflicted on how he felt for Sunshine.
"Anyways, how's the life of Yang Xiao Long going?"

The subject was soon switched to Yang herself, and she gave a shrug in response to Shadow's question. "Same old, same old, I guess," she replied. "Been looking around for a fight to sign up for. Managed to find a place that accepts minors." She wasn't sure if Shadow would find her main occupation questionable or not, but she felt like fighting was what she did best. She had been taught how to do it since she was young, and she had only gotten better as she had gotten older. Why not use what she had learned to earn herself some money?

"Was it the Beacon Ring?" Shadow asked. That was the only fighting ring that he had constantly gone to before he joined the force. Sometimes, if the spectre wasn't enough, he would go and fight there. "I fight there when I need some extra training. Plus, they're the only ring I know that just opened to minors."

Yang nodded. "Yeah, that was it." She was surprised to hear that Shadow did some fighting on the side as well, although he did it for a different reason. Probably half of the people who entered the ring did it for fun, for competition. The other half did it for the money. That was the category Yang belonged to, although she did enjoy it immensely. "Let's hope I don't have to go against you until you get your powers back," she said. Her fighting Shadow as an ordinary human seemed a bit unfair, in her opinion. Maybe once he was back to his hedgehog self, they could go up against each other.
