What Jane said seemed to make something go off in Yang's head. "It's not like you're in love with the guy!" Those words seemed to click in her brain. Was that why she was getting so hung up over him? Was that why she had bonded with him so quickly? Had she been falling for him all this time? She wrapped her arms around herself, not sure what to think of that. She had never felt like that about anyone before. Sure, she flirted sometimes when she was in a good mood, or when she was trying to get herself out of trouble. But seriously loving someone? Like how Omar loved Jane's mother? The idea almost seemed impossible. But, with Chat, maybe it wasn't so impossible.

She had said it because it seemed so impossible. The look on Yang's face was torn between guilt and realization. The silence spoke volumes. Yang shouldn't have feelings for the guy who breaks into her house. A normal person wouldn't have even spoken to him but then again this city was known for crazy things. That could not ease the worry that course through her very veins. The guy was dangerous at best.
"Yang?" She whispered softly, as if to deny it. "Seriously? A thief?"
There was no accounting for taste. This guy could have been as good as Yang said. Jane still thought he was stupid. He had gotten Yang mixed up in dangerous things because he couldn't leave her alone.
"Does he know?"

"It's not like I'm any better," Yang said, giving Jane a look. "I've done tons of bad stuff since I've been living on my own. Illegal fighting rings, stealing stuff, going through people's trash to try and sell their junk. I'd be a hypocrite if I judged him for what he does for a living." Besides, it's not like Chat stole for himself. Yang remembered teaming up with Odette in the past, and how the woman had only wanted the jewels for herself. She was practically obsessed with them. Yang hadn't minded at the time because she got part of the loot too, and it helped pay for stuff. But Chat stole to help people. He gave to those who were on the bottom rung of the ladder, and he returned things that had been wrongfully taken away from people. She shook her head in answer to Jane's question. "No. I don't think I even really knew it myself, 'til now." She ran a hand through her hair, not sure what to do. She had no way to contact Chat, no way to get his attention. She didn't even know what his civilian identity was. The most she could do was wander around the city at night, hoping to run into him. She had only tried that two times before getting rid of that idea. Bellerouge was a big place. The odds of two people running into each other was slim, especially if one of them didn't want to be found.

"Then let me help you get legal work." Jane insisted. "With benefits and a living wage and insurance."
She hated that Yang felt like she had to resort to crime to fend for herself. She was a smart girl and had so much potential. Jane also didn't want to see Yang behind bars. Jane had no idea what the prison system was like in the city. A girl like Yang was likely to be a target of inmate activity if anything. Or police cruelty. Neither were high on the list of things Jane wanted to see.
"Are you going to tell him?"
It seemed Yang's mind was made up. No amount of Jane's protesting was going to change her mind. All there was now, was to make sure the guy was safe enough for her to be seeing.

"I'm doing better," Yang grumbled. Jane was starting to sound like Moses. He always got onto her when she dabbled into illegal activities to get cash. Heck, Omar did it sometimes too. She just felt like it had been easier sometimes. Besides, the idea of working some dumb part-time job at a place like a restaurant or a department store sounded so boring to her. She liked doing what she did best: fighting. And if she could find some way to make money off of it, then she would do it. When Jane asked if Yang was going to tell Chat how she felt, she gave a sigh. "I don't know," she said. "I don't even know how to get in touch with him at this point. He's just...gone."

"I just want to make sure that you don't get in trouble with the wrong people," Jane insisted. "And it would help you out..."
Another thing she couldn't change, along with Yang's independence, her tendency to try not to make a big deal of a big deal and her stubbornness. Jane shook her head with a weary smile. She didn't know what she was going to do for the blonde. She just wanted to make sure that she was taken care of but there was only so much encouraging that she could do. Yang wasn't the type to be a receptionist or anything. She was more or less the type to teach self defense or if she actually had the belief in the police system, she could make a protective officer.
There were so many problems a relationship with Chat could cause. Like who this guy was outside of the mask? He might act one way when he was with her and being all 'thief of the night' but when he didn't have a mask, he could be someone else entirely. Jane was worried about that. She didn't want some guy to string her along, break her heart.
"Maybe that's for the best?" she suggested.

Yang sighed. She almost felt like this conversation was just going in circles. She knew Jane wasn't trying to be mean or anything. She was one of her best friends. But Yang just wished she could meet Chat, so she could understand what she was talking about. She remembered how the two of them used to joke that she was the Maid Marian to his Robin Hood. She wanted it to be that way again. She wanted to go back to how things used to be. But she had no idea how to make that happen. "It doesn't feel like it's for the best," she muttered. "I don't like feeling this way."

Jane sighed in defeat. Yang wasn't going to let up. She liked the guy, perhaps more than just friends but it could just be because he told her they couldn't be together. But she smiled and shook her head. She trusted Yang. She might not feel the same for this thief of Yang's but she should at least trust Yang's judgment on the guy. Even if she didn't like it. If he proved he was no good, then and only then would Jane take action against him. She would just be a little wary of him, that's all.
"You're lucky I'm the one who found out and not my dad. Can you say shovel talk?" she laughed.
Now that would have been a sight to see. Her father was protective. Probably even saw Yang as a second daughter or something. At the very least a very dear friend. Still, guys who broke into people's houses were someone to be concerned about. If things ended badly in the relationship, he could just as easily go after Yang and he knew where she stayed. Even worse, the kids were in danger too because of this vigilante.
"How'd you two meet?" she asked.

Yang gave a little laugh. She knew what Jane meant. Omar could be pretty protective of her sometimes. Heck, he got onto her for being too reckless almost as much as Moses. Jane might not be as extreme, but Yang could see hints of that same protectiveness. She certainly took after her father. "Well, for a while, he had been dropping off stuff at my place. Things like clothes, blankets, a set of screwdrivers. Practical stuff. I didn't know who was leaving this stuff for me and my kids, but I figured I might as well use it, you know? Well, I finally caught him one night when he was making another delivery." She gave a chuckle. "I was about ready to burn his face off when I first saw him. I didn't know who he was or what he was doing. But, we got talking and I saw that he was just trying to help. We kind of hit it off after that."

"No offense, but that's a little creepy. How did he even know you needed that stuff?" she asked.
It probably meant that Chat Noir had been watching Yang. That alone was enough to make Jane shiver a little but he hadn't tried anything so that had to count for something. Then there was the fact that the entire time Yang was talking about him, she was smiling. Honestly, it was the happiest that Jane had seen her since the ball. Chat might just have had that much of an impact on Yang. She supposed he couldn't be entirely bad if it got that sort of reaction out of the blonde. Jane would try to hold back her judgments until she met the guy.
"For a thief he's not very good at it if he gets caught."

Yang shrugged. "I dunno. I guess he was watching me for a while." She paused for a moment before adding "That probably sounds stalkerish to you, doesn't it?" If someone didn't know Chat, it could be considered a little weird. But it had made Yang feel like somebody was watching out for her. Sunshine had even referred to him as the guardian angel of the city. Yang felt like that title had fit him pretty well, albeit he was a very flirty guardian angel who loved puns. "Maybe. But he always gets away," she said. "Even if he's seen, the mask hides who he is." It almost reminded Yang of superheros in comic books. They didn't care who saw them, because they hid who they really were. Yang just wondered if she would ever figure out who Chat really was.

"Just a little," Jane admitted.
The guy technically hadn't done anything wrong even though he watched Yang and her kids. Well, aside from getting Yang to fall for him and then pull a disappearing act. that was hardly Yang's fault though. Jane just wished the guy didn't make such a big deal about the whole secret identity. Granted it probably made stealing things easier if no one knew who took them.
"Any leads on who this guy is?" she asked.

Yang shook her head. "Sunshine and Shadow just have some theories. They think he may be middle class, or rich. I'm a little doubtful of the latter though. I mean, most of the rich people here tend to just look after themselves, you know?" She tossed her hair over her shoulder. "I mean, sure, there's some nice rich people here, but I feel like they're kind of few and far between." Yang felt like that possibility was unlikely. Most of the rich people she had met in her life looked down on people like her, which was why she didn't feel too bad pick-pocketing them from time to time. They were set for life. They weren't going to die if she stole a couple hundred bucks from them.

"That's ridiculous. If he was a rich guy why would he even need to steal anything at all?" Jane asked.
The theory was a bit far fetched. Her foster parents had been rich. They literally spent their money on anything and everything. Jane wasn't like them. She grew up with her true parents. It was hard when she was a kid, but she remembered being so happy despite all of that. Her foster parents had all the money in the world but were never satisfied. The thief would have no point in stealing anything if he could literally just buy it anyways.

"Exactly. I feel like it's too weird," Yang said, glad to see that at least Jane agreed with her on that point. "Usually, when rich people try to help the poor, they make donations just large enough to the correct charity." That was how most rich people tried to help those beneath them. They just threw some money at a random organization and walked away. They didn't do anything else. Yang had always found that to be lazy. She felt like you really needed to get into the thick of things to help people out. Like her kids. Three of them had rotten parents. The fourth had gotten fed up with the foster care system. So, Yang had decided to take care of them herself and make them happy.
