Sunshine took a deep breath as she stood by the Antoine River, by a lightpost near Nevermore. The night sky, despite still being the color of maroon velvet dotted with stars, was glistening against the dark water. She played with the pleats of her lavender dress, wondering if what she picked out was too much. Her mother had assisted with her hair, by taking the massive gold locks and somehow managing to twist it all into a thick braid that was adorned with flowers. She argued that going out with a Lafayette was like going out with royalty, so she should 'look like a princess'. SUnshine had tried to argue with her mother that this was a celebration, not really a date, but no point in getting out of it now. Sunshine's dress;

Riku jogged up to the place that he and Sunshine had agreed to meet and blinked when he saw her. "You look stunning" he said by way of greeting. Great. The dress did not fit the little ma and pop diner he and Aqua usually went to to celebrate a job well done. His mind raced before he settled on a choice. A little house had been converted into a three star diner and at this time they accepted walk-ins. That was more suited to Sunshine's outfit. She'd have been really embarrassed at the ma and pop diner wearing something that nice. He looked down at himself. Nice shoes and large dress pants. At least they somewhat matched. "Are you ready?"

Fleet footsteps resounded from around the bend. Sunshine tucked one of the daisies near her ear closer so it wouldn't end up falling to the river. Riku's speed as a rabbit wasn't as quick as Shadow's, but it was quick to make a bit of a gust. Her cheeks burned at the word he used to describe her outfit. Stunning. No one in her life had ever called her that. She had said that about clothes, but to have it applied to her...it was new. "...You clean up good yourself," she replied. "I hope it's not too much for where you had in mind. And yep, I'm ready..."

"Well...I was thinking that three star restaurant down the street actually" no need to say he'd just thought of it. It was better he played it cool anyway. He was really excited to go to a dinner with Sunshine, she was nice, tough and knew her own mind. He liked that about her. Moreover, she didn't seem to care about his name or family. She just cared about him. That was beyond refreshing. He offered her his arm and began walking with her towards the restaurant.

"Oh, the one you told me about originally? Good to know I didn't scare that idea away." Sunshine grinned. She picked up a handful of the chiffon on her dress and aired at the spring humidity nervously. This couldn't be a dream. Well, if it was, she was either feeling really confident or not caring at all. Riku offered his arm, and she took it, almost hesitantly. Her heart was pretty much echoing in her head. Her feet tried to catch up with her mind, resulting in her making a half-skip, half-canter to step in to follow him to the restaurant. "...Uh...how'd you hear about this place?" Dumb question. It was probably something that came up in "civilized" conversation.

"No, that one Aqua showed me. This one...my mom used to take me on special occasions" He looked down for a moment, trying to overcome the memories that threatened to overwhelm him before looking at Sunshine and smiling. "My mom would take me here every time I made a significant improvement in my studies. Every time I got an A or my tutors said I should move up a grade in any subject, or I accomplished a challenge set for me in voodoo, she'd bring me here. It was our little tradition. I don't know how she heard about it, she never said. But I promise you, the food is absolutely worthy. Just Delicious"

Sunshine smiled. "Okay. Maybe for the next time, we'll go with Aqua's choice." A very small part of her wanted to tell him that she had run into Weiss in the park not too long ago. It had been okayvtalking to her, just...awkward that she had to avoid the topic of Riku. "And hey, this counts as a celebration, too. Maybe not for acing a voodoo ritual, but for doing a good job with an arrest."

"Next time we'll totally go to the little Diner Aqua likes" Riku agreed with a smile. "I love the milkshakes. But this place is special to me too, and I wanted to share it with you" She looked like she wanted to tell him something and he wondered what she wanted to say. They continued down the way in relative silence. "My mom used to be a lot...warmer than she is now" he said, as a way to fill the silence. "But life got to her. I remember though, she used to sing the loveliest lullabies. And she used to think me wanting to uphold the law was a noble idea. Granted this was when I was little and she probably thought I'd grow out of it" he chuckled softly. "Coming here made me remember her lullabies though for some reason. And her smile"

Sunshine's cheeks reddened. Riku said the place was special to him, and well, he was sharing with her. Did he do that for Aqua when they started partnering? She shook her head, trying not to go into the realm of fantasy. "Oooh, milkshakes are a plus. I tried to talk John into selling them at Nevermore as a way of recycling, but, he didn't buy it." There was a brief silence that was cut off by Riku tellingher about his family life. How his mother sang him lullabies before she...well..changed. "Mom sang me lullabies too...but...well...I guess you heard which one I preferred." Well, her name was in the title and it was the one song that she used for her healing.

He laughed at her and nodded. "I had my first milkshake with Aqua. it was quite the experience. I really liked them" He flicked an ear as he thought. "You are my Sunshine, right? I guessed you liked it. It's sweet your mom sang it to you" He smiled and paused as they came to the three star restaurant. "Well we're here. It's really just a medium sized house that was converted to a restaurant. It's really quite quaint. I think you'll like it a lot. Their desserts don't hold a candle to your family's food though" he laughed and went to open the door for her.

Sunshine didn't know what to say. The medium sized house looked, well, like that. The windows had checked curtains hanging out, the garden boxes were full of flowering bright red tulips, and the wood door completed the rustic look. If it weren't for the urban backdrop with the red sky, she would thought it was a dollhouse grown to scale.
"It's...so cute!" She chirped, her green eyes widening in delight. She swallowed her enthusiasm back,
"Sorry. Overreaction."

Riku smiled in delight at Sunshine's reaction. "No, no, it's okay. Let it out. It is a really cute little house. And the inside has framed pictures of the countryside and flowered wallpaper. It's like...one giant dollhouse. It's definitely 'cute' to look at" he opened the door and led her inside, where there were chairs around little tables with fern print green tablecloths and hardwood floors. The walls had cream colored wallpaper with pink and blue flowers painted on it and the air was full of the smell of cooking food. A waitress walked over to them in normal clothes and a red apron. She glanced at Riku oddly but said nothing. Riku realized this was the first time he'd come here as a rabbit and he bit his lip. "A table for two, please. In the upstairs room" It was the attic room and you sat on chests as opposed to actual seats. It would suit Riku better because chests were sturdier than normal seats and less likely to break. And the attic room had a full window in one side, with a perfect view of the river. He was pretty sure Sunshine would like that.

Sunshine felt the tension ease as Riku bounced off her bubbliness. She followed her anthropomorphic rabbit date inside, her smile widening at the incredible overflow of green. The contrast of the red sky outside was...well...it was making her see that there could be so much happiness in a time of so much gloom. The green plus Riku as a rabbit was forcing an Easter spring-time joke, but she bit it back. She had been hitting the rabbit card a bit too much. Now was her time to talk to him as the former voodoo king. In a high ranking restaurant; sure three stars was average, but it was better than nothing.
The attic room where the waitress led them to made her imagination go full throtle. The chests in place of chairs could be full of so many things. The arches...maybe needed some of her paint, but it was charming. The view of the river, even with the hellish red sky Bellerouge always had, was something she wanted in a photograph.
"Riku...you really know how to surprise me."

Riku pulled out a seat that had a view of the river out for Sunshine and seated her before taking a seat himself. He smiled in pleasure at her reaction and nodded. In truth he'd been groomed to be a charming date, in the hopes he'd nab the perfect wife someday. The kind of wife to bring prestige to his family name. He'd never felt comfortable with any of the girls, but he certainly had them swooning. This? This was normal. And yet not because for once in his life he cared how his date actually felt and he felt like himself around Sunshine. Funny considering he was a rabbit at the moment. "I just thought you'd like to admire the view" he told her. "It's beautiful this time of day, isn't it?"

"Yeah. It really is." Sunshine had inclined her head to look out the window from her seat. "...When do you think the sky will turn blue again? I mean, it's been red since I was eight." The cause of the red sky; the opening of the portal to hell where the legions of demons had fallen from the sky. But demons was the last thought on her mind. Right now, she had to think about being on, well, a date.
