"It was only a few signatures." he said. "I was about to head to bed when I heard you."
He always read before bed, at least an hour. He did it to wind down after a long day, so that way he got himself into a relaxed state before sleep. So he supposed the files counted as reading, if a little dull. But it was cute how Yang was worrying (and scolding him) for working on vacation. He supposed he shouldn't have, since they were on vacation. He was supposed to be relaxing and despite the fact he normally read before bed. It would have been different if he had been reading one of the novels that were on the bookshelves. He wrapped an arm around her before squeezing her close. It was different for him to have someone concerned about his health, but sweet, oh so sweet of her.

Yang didn't say anything for a moment. She was still intent on distracting her brain from anymore intrusive thoughts or memories. Despite having these nightmares for a while, she could never get used to them. They always made her feel fear or sadness or pain. The only thing she ever got used to was going through whatever techniques she had learned to calm herself down. Take deep breaths, focus on a happy memory, maybe get something to eat, find something distracting like a good book or a TV show. Some techniques worked better than others, and it also depended on how bad she was feeling. Some nights left her inconsolable and all she could do was lie in bed and feel miserable until morning. She didn't feel like this was going to be one of those kinds of nights, but she was afraid of Adrien witnessing something like that. He'd already seen a bit of it, during her breakdown after the paparazzi incident. She didn't want him seeing anything like that again. It would only make him worried, and she couldn't drop all of her baggage on him at once when he was still dealing with the death of his father. She just didn't want to end up becoming a burden.

Adrien wasn't sure what to do when she went quiet. He hesitated before he started to rub her shoulder, his hand tracing small slow circles against her skin. He looked over at her, eyes half lidded. He already felt more comfortable than he had been in his own room. But he supposed that was because he was near Yang and knew that if she needed him in the night, he was right there, instead of across the hall. There was less of a distance for him to go to get to her. If she wanted him to be the 'security blanket' then that was what he would be for her. There was little he wouldn't do for her if only asked.

Yang wasn't sure if the silence was uncomfortable or not. She had a lot on her mind, but was any of it worth saying? Adrien had assured her a million times already that he'd always be there for her and that she'd never become a burden to him. Any fears or worries going through her brain right now were ones that she'd had several times before. It just felt like a cycle that was repeating itself over and over. She'd have a period of time where she was pretty decent, then she'd have a bad spell, then she'd have to spend her time picking herself back up again, then it would go on until she felt bad again. Would there ever be a time where her good days would become permanent, and there'd be no more bad spells? Would the opposite happen, where her bad days just piled up and nothing ever got good again? That thought scared her a lot, and it made her feel weaker than the people around her. "You ever think anyone we know has to deal with this stuff?" she asked, looking back up at Adrien. "I mean, Sunshine, Shadow...a lot of our friends have been through some deep shit. But I don't know if they ever...get like this." Omar himself had said that he'd had bad days after he'd lost his family, and Shadow and Sunshine had had some recovering to do after the vampire incident. But she'd never really seen them have panic attacks or break down or get scared or anything. Were they just better at holding themselves together? Or did they recover faster than she did?

"Maybe." Adrien admitted. "I think we've all gone through some shit and we all cope differently."
Yang had her nightmares and her panic attacks. Adrien threw himself into making others happy - right now Yang was the target of that focus. As for Sunshine or Shadow, he wasn't particularly close enough to them to know those sorts of things. He knew Shadow loved Sunshine, but refused to say anything because Sunshine loved Riku. He was really only close with Weiss, but she was dealing with stuff with her parents. Her rotten parents who would rather kick out their son than let him do something that made him happy. Because Riku didn't want to spend the rest of his life screaming on the inside. Adrien realized he had done the same as Riku, except his decision caused his father's heart attack.
"Weiss maybe," he said.
But then he remembered, Weiss was the one who had saved Yang.

Maybe that was it. Anyone Yang knew who had gone through some rough stuff probably just coped with it in different ways then she did. However, when Adrien said Weiss's name, that caught her interest. "Weiss? Really?" She knew her parents sucked, Riku had made that much clear. But whether Weiss was like them or not seemed to be in debate. She knew Riku had been at odds with her for a while, and for a long time, she seemed to be the perfect kid who had the perfect life. The tabloids did seem to note that she was becoming more of a recluse though. Less social outings, less attendance to formal events. She seemed to be holed up in the mansion a lot these days. Yang wasn't sure what to make of the change, mainly because she didn't know Weiss very well. The girl had saved her life, so she had to be nice on some level. And she was obviously strong, otherwise she couldn't have held up against Thrax for as long as she had. Other than that, she was a total mystery.

"Yeah, she's got it tougher than I do." Adrien said.
A lot of people did. People like Yang had it tougher than he did. He only had his father pass away, but other people like Yang were dealing with things they might not ever get over, like the loss of her arm. It bothered him he couldn't fix that, but that was simply something he was going to have to get used to. He rolled over so he could look at her better. Adrien had gained his freedom in his father's death. He could do more than he had been when his father was alive.
"If you want, I could ask her if she wants to talk to you."
It might do some good for both women to see the other was alive. That they had both endured whatever Thrax had put them through. That they were tough. That they were okay.

Oh. It looked like any description of Riku's parents had been no exaggeration. Truthfully, Yang had only seen them once at their masquerade ball. And even then, it had only been from a distance. Same with Weiss, although she remembered hearing that Thrax had managed to get a hit on her too before the police and anyone else who could fight got involved. Adrien offered to get the two together and she wasn't sure what to think of that. It wasn't like the two were friends or anything. They'd just happened to encounter the same demon on the same night. Yang had lost her arm, Weiss had gotten a scar. And who knew if Weiss would have much time for socializing, if any news about her reclusive nature was to be believed. But, maybe it wouldn't hurt to try. If Weiss declined, then that was on her. 'I guess you could try," she said.

"Hey," Adrien said softly. "You don't have to if you don't want to."
He pressed a light kiss to her cheek. Well, that wasn't helping. He should have guessed as much. There was no point in focusing on bad things right now. He was lousy with this whole 'comforting' thing. At least he felt he was. He could make sure she had fun and enjoyed herself, but he couldn't help her when she needed distracting from bad dreams or her own doubts.
"But for now, it's just us here."

"I'm just wondering if she'd want to, that's all," Yang replied. "I mean, she hasn't really tried to talk to me before. I'm not bitter over it or anything. She just...seems reclusive, from what people are saying." Maybe Weiss was withdrawing from everyone just like Yang had shortly after she'd lost her arm. She'd spent a lot of time inside her house because she felt like it was the safest place. But at least she was getting a little more social now. Weiss seemed to be heading in the opposite direction, becoming more and more withdrawn. It was like when she'd heard people mention the girl Adeline, who had summoned Thrax in the first place. Yang had thought about reaching out to her, but she wasn't sure how well that would go. The poor girl probably felt guilty every time Thrax hurt someone. Yang didn't want her to feel worse. Still, Adrien didn't seem to want to press her on the matter right now. It was just about the two of them now, and that did make Yang feel a little happy. "Yeah, just us," she agreed with a smile.

"It's just a suggestion." he said.
He would have to talk to Weiss later, see if she was up for this. Otherwise, he would just be there for Weiss similar to the way he was there for Yang. Just to prove she wasn't alone. Her parents could be so... frustrating sometimes. They barely put in any effort into telling him how sorry they were about his father passing, probably because they had been kissing up to his father for years, but never really buttered Adrien up so they would have to start all over again to get in at his company or make a powerful ally out of him.

"Well, I have been starting to get social again with my old friends," Yang said. "Maybe I can finally make some new ones." She wasn't sure if Weiss was the best place to start, but she was sure people would be pleased if they heard she had made a new friend or two. "If Weiss doesn't work out, maybe we could hang out with Elsa or something. Do you know her?" She assumed Adrien did on some level. All rich people seemed to know each other. But Yang didn't know if he was friends with her. Honestly, Yang hadn't spent much time with Elsa outside of finding suitable guardians for her kids, but she had broken the stereotype of "rich jerks" for her, so she had to appreciate that.

"I know Elsa... She's kind of giving me the cold shoulder since I didn't want to go to Nevermore with her," Adrien said. "At the time I was trying to keep Chat hidden from Sunshine and Shadow..."
What would have tipped Sunshine off sooner? The fact that Chat Noir and Adrien Agreste sound and look extraordinarily similar? The green eyes? The blonde hair? Adrien might have acted differently around her outside of the mask, but it wouldn't have been hard to figure out. He also didn't want Sunshine and Shadow to gloat they had figured out before he had wanted him to. He was already mildly annoyed Shadow knew, but between things Chat told him and Yang told him, he there was no getting around it.

"Oh. I see." Sunshine may have figured out Adrien's identity a little quicker if he had done that. Yang hadn't connected the dots herself when it came to tying Adrien and Chat Noir together, but Sunshine might have. Heck. Shadow already had before Adrien even confessed. They were cops for a reason. They picked up on stuff like that. She nuzzled a little closer against Adrien's chest. Her brain was nice and distracted now with plans of socializing once the two of them got back. And her tiredness was starting to come back as well. She probably wouldn't notice if Adrien left after she had fallen asleep, but she was still reluctant to let him go. Having him around made her feel safe. "You'll stay with me tonight, right?" she asked sleepily as she gazed up at at him again.

"I'll stay," he reassured her.
With the way she was cuddled up to him, he doubted he could leave even if he wanted to - which he didn't. Leaving hadn't even crossed his mind. He was comfortable one and two, Yang needed him there. He gave her a weary but affectionate smile. This was something he could get used to. He felt sleepy there, comfortable and blissfully happy. Hopefully, this would help Yang and she wouldn't have to suffer any more nightmares. He wanted her to have good dreams, but in the realm of dreams, she was outside of his reach and he could not just magically make those better, though perhaps, a dream catcher could help?
