Shadow almost jumped as a pot of tea was set in front of him. He had to go to Craig and see if he was positive for post traumatic stress. Because the slightest things got him on edge or sent him into flashbacks. Part of him wondered if he could set up mental defenses with training. He took a cup and poured the dark amber liquid,
“Curse is a good way to put it.”
He sipped the tea and settled on ordering beef pad prik when asked what to order. He set the cup down, watching the dark liquid swirl. Being connected through Disparion’s blood was as difficult to deal with as it was to explain.

Jane waited until after the waiter left to speak. The waiter had their order for Shadow's beef pad prik and her drunk noodles with dumplings which she intended to share if Shadow wanted some. She poured herself a glass of tea to think over her response. So something big was going to happen, potentially devastating to the city and a curse was at hand. She didn't know much about magic. She couldn't even fathom the first thing about fixing this.
"Well shit..." she muttered. "Um, yeah, that would be kind of a lot to think about... Shadow, if you're busy don't worry about that woman. I'll take care of it."

“But what if the woman is connected to it? You said yourself it was weird she’d target you who did nothing wrong.”
He had seen situations like this in demon practices. The people brought in were disoriented because of being in a influence. Some demons could take the very worst of a person and increase it. Who was next? He wasn’t about to let his friends get hurt because of him.

"I don't know," she replied. "Because I don't see what she would have to do with your curse."
She couldn't say because she didn't know what Shadow's curse was. Just something potentially end of the city-esque. Shadow seemed to blame her misfortunate run-in with the demon on himself. She frowned. Just because something bad happened in his city, he wasn't responsible for saving every living being before something bad happened. Cops were at best a reactive force than a proactive one. They could stop crime in advance, but mostly they were hunting down those who had committed a felony.

"Because I was created with the blood of the badest demon of them all."
That was the curse Jane was talking about. Because he had the same blood as Disparion, demon king, flowing through him. This woman had probably been working for him, trying to get him to unleash the hoardes come summer. Shadow was fighting every urge to do good in the town. He became an officer because Maria wanted him to help people. He channeled every sense of anger to mankind into a driven focus in recovering his lost memories or the very monsters he had unintentionally released because of his rage. He wasn't born bad, but the origins were still there, deeply rooted and were slowly beginning to bubble to the surface.
"And because I caused the Black War. I didn't mean to, but I did. I had been so angry, so hurt because of what humans did. Now because of me, this town's slowly falling to shit."

Jane opened her mouth to say something, but closed it. What was she supposed to say? A pat on the back really wouldn't make this go away. Though, this did explain why he would sit and drink with her - the anti-cop teacher. All the back up in the world couldn't prepare for something like this. But it was hard to wrap her mind around it. Shadow? A demon? He caused the Black War? The war in which her mother died? Killed at the hands of a demon? She swallowed thickly.
"I... shit, I don't know what to say." she said.

“I know, it’s a lot to absorb.”
He took a sip. The sympathy was genuine. Because of him, people were dying. One of them had been Cindy. The fear caused by it had led people to react in awful ways, committing awful crimes. Crimes like ripping a family apart with no warrant. Shadow hadn’t given up finding the cop who ripped up the LaRue family. All of this he was partially responsible for. Jane’s reaction was expected. But for him, getting his memories back piece by piece and remembering why he gave them up in the first place...it was a pain he wouldn’t wish on anyone,

"Have you told anyone about this?" she asked.
This was huge. It also had to be weighing on him. Even now, the guilt had pushed him to the extent of not even eating. When was the last time he slept proper? How could a person sleep feeling like they were the one responsible for the Black War? But Shadow couldn't keep this to himself. It was eating away at him and his functionality. Save for the fact Shadow was one of the better officers at his job, it would be a crime itself to have him performing less than his best.

"Yang and Sunshine are the only two that know the full story. The Colt brothers only know a small amount, but enough to know it's bad."
He was adding Jane to the 'people who know the full story' list. While Omar and Adrien were at the cemetery during the first wave of mind tricks, they were only just told 'blood of the devil'. Besides, if Jane was getting roped in, Omar wouldn't be too far behind. Energy was filling him from the tea bit by bit, so he was able to sit without slumping. The bags under his eyes were still visible, but at least he was getting some strength back.

Jane sighed, looking down at her cup of tea. Shadow clearly had a lot on his mind. She couldn't fix it. She didn't exactly handle her last demon well. Let alone the demon lord of all demons. Currently, all she could do was what she was doing now, coaxing him to eat. Regain his strength and try to think this through a different angle (after rest).
"I don't know how to help," she admitted.

Shadow scoffed. Help. Not even all the help in the world could give him the support needed to stop him from destroying the city. But yet, she was slowly giving him a sort of renewing energy. That or it was the caffeine in the tea kicking in and keeping him from running on fumes. The scent of spices didn't help much either as someone came by with food to serve to the table close by, making his stomach gurgle.
"Well, I'll give you this. You aren't nagging me. That's helping."

"I don't see how anyone could nag you." Jane said. "You were already looking for ways to stop this, so I'm not sure what else there is to be said."
Shadow was doing all that he could to stop this 'end of the city' thing. Though, Jane would probably try and coax Namine to leave the town. Her father was too stubborn to leave. If he knew, he would stay because his faery would stay. Plus, someone had to look out for the little people - the kids. She sighed. This wasn't fair to Shadow. He seemed like a genuinely good guy.

Shadow was silent. There seemed like so much time, summer's beginning a few months away. The truth was, whatever Disparion was planning, it was coming fast. But what came faster was the set down of the Thai food. His stomach churned, begging him to fill up and eat. He looked at Jane quizzically, trying to find an angle at why she was doing this, why she was being so nice to him. Her hatred of cops was no secret. Even with the scooping of food, he was questioning her motives. Was she trying to get his point of view on her father and Aqua? He wasn't exactly the 'lovey-dovey' type. Not after friendzoning himself.

Jane rubbed the back of her neck. Shadow was in a tough position. She wasn't sure how he was able to function knowing he was going to be the cause of some disastrous event. However, if there was someone who could stop this, it was the guy who was somehow the cause. Shadow was nothing but determined to keep the people in the city safe. She slowly started to realize it when he went solo against Killer Croc. Yang trusted him too. Her father even liked the guy. Still, it was confusing and this whole 'being nice to a cop' brought up a lot of questions she wasn't about to ask herself.
"Shadow, eat something." she told him. "You're going to run yourself into the ground if you don't eat and sleep. Just take tonight off and go back at this tomorrow with fresh eyes."

“You sounded exactly like my partner right now.”
Shadow said this with a half-hearted laugh. It was so foreign to him, just letting out a laugh. There had been nothing for him to laugh about in so long. His heart had been bashed, glued back together, sand was being pressed on by the overwhelming frustration and guilt. It was taking so much will to hold back Disparion’s influence on his anger, too. Food and rest might help. Might. He had avoided Sunshine all this week. Taking everything out on her would have been worse.
