Vanitas had hidden the bottle from Roman so that Moses wouldn't find it. He was still troubled by the fact that he had it. Moses expected so much of him. He was used to doing things like drug people in order to get by, let alone put a meal on the table. Moses wanted him to stop all that. Was it really so easy to fight his nature like that? To just ignore what he had been doing since as long as he could remember in order to survive? He wasn't sure he could, or if it would be a clean break from his old ways. He had very much wanted to stain Roman's white suit red. It would have been so easy, but his hand had shook when he tried.
Even now, after he slunk back to his little prison, his hand shook. He stared at the trembling digits, wondering what was wrong with him. It had never been hard for him to take a life. Honestly, it had been so easy. Vanitas took a deep breath. He had to get a grip of himself before Moses saw him like this, second guessing himself like some stupid brat.

Moses was in high spirits after going to Elsa's and had been much more optimistic than usual in his life with Vanitas. Yes, things were bad right now, but they could soon be so much better. He could get one of the jobs she'd listed for him and pull them out of the basement and back to his apartment, and start looking for those Lapis Lazuli stones that she had told him about. Lord knew that they needed some reprieve. He hadn't told Van or Elsa, but he'd seen Hexxus's goons much more frequently. But for now, creep to the basement and see his boyfriend. "Van, I'm back" he called softly as he descended the steps.

Vanitas looked up. Speak of the devil he supposed. Moses seemed in rather good spirits. It would be a bad idea to mention any of his nightly walks to his boyfriend at the moment. He wouldn't want to be the reason for another argument. They didn't always see eye to eye. Their most recent argument was over Vanitas' money. Moses wouldn't use it. Wouldn't take it. Even if it was harder to put meals on the table because he was feeding two.
"Hey." he greeted. "What's got you in such a good mood?"

Moses grinned at Vanitas and moved to kiss his cheek. "I talked to Elsa-and before you yell at me, she agreed to help me, she gave me a list of jobs I can possibly go to interview for that would pay a whole lot better. It would be enough to provide for both of us" he grinned. "So, I'm thinking we move you to my apartment finally. This was always supposed to be temporary, so let's make the move and get you situated in my home. Get whatever you need and I'll buy you more clothes, and we'll work on making sure you're comfortable"

"Um... why would she agree to help?" Vanitas asked.
He was absolutely baffled as to why the ice queen lawyer would help when Pitch Black wouldn't. He looked up at Moses. Trying to figure out what he meant. But he seemed serious. The woman gave him a list of jobs so that Vanitas wouldn't have to hide out in the basement of the abandoned house. He suddenly felt a strange. It was an uncomfortable feeling, particularly regarding his little nightly outings to get away from the basement.
"Wait, we're moving right now?"

"I think she felt sorry for me" he said with a shrug. "I'm not sure why, I have everything I need. You, namely" he paused and laughed. "That's just me being excited. No, we don't have to leave right now. It's not dark enough to hide you anyway. All I'm saying is once I get one of these jobs, you don't have to stay here anymore. I can better afford to take care of you, of us. We can move to a bigger apartment and be together properly" Moses moved to hold Vanitas' hand. "We still have to be careful, but you don't have to stay cooped up here. You can be somewhere with running water, electricity, windows and my soft bed-our soft bed" Moses grinned at Vanitas, delighted with himself. "Won't it be nice not staying here anymore?"

"We don't need her charity," Vanitas groused.
He didn't want the woman's help if it came from pity. But... she pitied Moses. For falling for him. That stung. Though he knew he was bad for Moses. He had tried to talk him out of it, out of their relationship, but Moses was stubborn and refused to listen. At first, Vanitas agreed because it was a form of self preservation, but now, he honestly didn't know. He broke out of jail. The first person he went to was Moses. Even now, he was all but dependent on Moses for safety, shelter and even his meals that it was a blow to his pride.
"I... whatever. At least it's not jail." he said, trying to remain aloof.

"Van, I can't keep us afloat for much longer. I'd rather I'd gotten you out of your punishment but I'll work on that. For now, it's a good thing. Pitch told me about her and that she could help. We can't afford to spit in her face, okay?" Moses smiled gently and stroked Van's cheek. "I promise, you will see the sun again, alright? but good things take time. at least now you can look forward to getting somewhere you can get changed clothes, a shower, and television. Plus hot meals instead of the cold stuff I have to bring you every night, which I'm sorry about" Moses frowned and hugged Vanitas before walking towards the bed and sitting down. "I'm so tired Van, but I want a happy ending. With you. It's why I keep fighting, you have to fight to" fight to not lose hope. Moses would make good on his promise, he just needed time.

"I have money, if that's the problem," Vanitas said. "You're just too proud to take it."
It felt like Moses spat in his face when he refused the contributions Vanitas tried to make. It wasn't ever much, but he was giving (or at least trying to) what he could to 'them'. He was watching as Moses all but destroyed himself to try to keep him safe. It didn't sit right with him. Mostly because he wasn't used to anyone going to such efforts on his behalf. This whole 'love' thing wasn't something Vanitas knew how to work with.
"Listen, Moses, I just don't want to see you drag yourself down for me. I can deal with cold meals and a hard bed. I always have."

"I don't take bad money, I'll provide. I can do it, I always take care of people. It's kind of what I do" Moses said wearily, too tired to get into this old argument. Moses smiled at Vanitas and picked up his paper of jobs. "We can make it, we will make it. There's an easy job-it's just modeling. I think I can do that" he was young, in shape and people considered him handsome. He knew he could take the job and provide for both he and Vanitas and then some. It was just standing in front of a camera, he could do that in his sleep. "Van, I want to give you so much more, I want a place you never have to feel afraid in. I want somewhere you can feel safe, alright?"

"Bad money. You don't even ask how I get it anymore." Vanitas sneered.
He did have a job. With Cruella. He was collections. Basically making sure that people repaid her what was do and were up to date on their tab at the 'establishment'. But he was on payroll. Even if it was a moniker to keep the police off Cruella's doorstep. It infuriated him that despite all of his efforts, his attempts to try, it was just being shoved back in his face and he was being treated like a child rather than a person.
"You know what, do whatever. You always do."

"Okay, how do you get your money?" Moses sighed. He didn't mean to be mean, but Vanitas had never gotten paid by honest means. It didn't help that Vanitas was a criminal and thus not allowed to have a normal job, seeing as he was still wanted by the police. "Hey now" he looked up at Vanitas. "I want this to be equal but I don't feel right taking your money. Use it to do what you want, don't worry about me. I'll take care of us" he always took care of people. It was his pride getting in the way, but much as he loved Vanitas, he couldn't bear to let him shoulder some of the load. "You can...give me your money and I'll buy you new clothes, so it's technically you buying them" he offered, begrudgingly. He found it hard to allow even that.

"I got a job with Cruella." Vanitas said. "I help make sure no on skips out on their tabs at the bar."
It wasn't bad work. Actually, it was easier than most of the things he used to do. He hadn't even had to fight anyone for the money. Just a good glare and a meaningfully placed threat and they paid their tabs. If they didn't, well Cruella's girls took care of that. He just marked them as non-cooperative. That was really all he had to do. It wasn't hard work. Cruella paid well.
"I'm the one who got myself into this, I don't see why it's so hard for you to try to do something about it."

Moses stilled. "You got a job with my ex employer" he said quietly. "As her personal lapdog and cleanup guy" he shook his head. "I promised myself I'd never again take that woman's money. I'm sorry" He frowned at Vanitas. "I am doing something about it. I'm trying to make the most of this and get us somewhere better to live, somewhere you can have more space and better necessities. I just want the best for you Vanitas, I hope you know that" He wanted to keep Vanitas safe no matter what. Van kept getting himself in messes and Moses kept getting him out of them. It was their roles.

Dismayed Vanitas' head drooped. He refused to look at Moses. He hadn't known that Moses used to work for Cruella. Moses never mentioned it nor did Cruella. He had been proud to have managed to snag a job. Instead, he was no better than a leech, sucking Moses' bank accounts dry as he tried to keep them both... Off the streets was a bad word for it but alive was a better one. He had the means to finally do something about his circumstances. However, he was proven once again, he was no good at being good. It was all rather discouraging.
"Even when I'm trying to do right by you I still fuck it up..."
