Sunshine shuddered as she entered the cemetery. Under the red sky and the possibility of monsters, she had to keep on guard. This was the only place to possibly find clues. She couldn’t exactly sell her soul to go to hell and find Shadow. No, instead, she’d piece together the story. Shadow’s memories were fragmented, and he couldn’t make them fit. Yet he left many parts out, Be it due to memory loss or because he didn’t want to tell her.
Many effigies had been crumbled to ruin through the cemetery. Tombstones were cracked. Flowers were turned to ash. The masoleums were dark. But with her head high and hand on her monster-hunters belt, she continued trekking.

To say that it had been a bad day had kind of been an understatement. One minute, everything had been pleasant and hunky-dory. The next, a blast of green energy had blacked out the entire city, monsters had started going on the rampage, and Disparion himself shaded the whole city. Yang had already taken quite a few monsters out herself. It hadn't been too hard, but that didn't make her worry any less. Regular citizens weren't fighters like she was. Monsters might eat them alive if they felt like it. And Yang had a lot of loved ones to worry about. Adrien, Omar, Jane, the list went on. However, there was one particular person that she was making her priority right now: Shadow. The whole Others Unit had been sent out to deal with the monsters running about the city, except for him. Shadow was no where to be found, and with Disparion pretty much declaring this the start of his "reign," Yang had a feeling her old friend had something to do with this. And when Yang spotted his and Sunshine's Unit car near the cemetery, she figured that it was as good a place as any to start. Her fists glowed a dull ember as she made her way through, ready to make them burn to a raging flame if she needed to. Lucky for her, she found Sunshine before she ran into any unpleasant monster. "Hey partner," she called, hoping Sunshine's first instinct wouldn't be to whip her gun out and start shooting.

Sunshine pressed a hand on the nearest tombstone. No. It wasn't the one she was looking for. Honestly, it was difficult to locate where it was considering the last time she was here had been for a funeral. Besides, the chances of finding her partner here were zilch. He made his choice. She could wish like a girl in a fairy tale, but the reality was he was gone. She had to put on her big girl pants and work solo. Well, solo and with a team. A familiar voice called to her over the red silence and she beamed. Yang. Yang was okay, her best friend on the squad behind Shadow. She was okay. Her anxious face melted into a smile of relief and she half sprinted, half jumped over to the other blonde.
"Oh thank God," she said with a choked voice.

Sunshine seemed pretty relieved to see Yang, almost too relieved. Her voice sounded all choked up. Was it all the stress she was under? Anybody would be freaking out in a situation like this. But it looked like she needed some assurance, and Yang was willing to provide that. "Hey, easy there. Don't get all mushy on me," she said, giving a little smile. She knew she couldn't beat around the bush forever though. Sunshine was here for a reason, and if Yang wanted to help her if she needed help. "So, what are you doing here?" she asked. "I saw your squad car parked near the entrance."

"I'm looking for Maria Gerald's grave. I was hoping maybe I could find some clues." Sunshine scrubbed her eyes vigorously. She hadn't had any sleep, or Nevermore coffee for that matter, in a decent while. She had become a woman obsessed. Yang was providing her much needed social interaction, which was reverting her back to some of the positive attributes she had when Shadow was still around. Besides, with everyone who knew about Shadow's creation dead and with no intentions on selling her soul to the devil himself, Sunshine was determined to figure out more of the truth. Her partner wouldn't destroy the world unless he was forced.

Maria...Yang hadn't heard that name in a while. Of course, she remembered hearing about her and how Shadow had been torn up over her death for a while. She was the reason why he was afraid to lose anyone else. She let out a breath before saying "It's 'cause of Shadow, isn't it?" Yang wasn't sure how much she wanted to believe that Shadow had a part in this. But if Disparion was involved, then Shadow probably was too. Sunshine deciding to look for clues about Maria seemed to hit the nail on the head.

Sunshine looked away. Well, that was the hard part about working in such a small unit. It was nearly impossible to keep secrets. She nodded silently, refusing to say anything else. She had seen how Shadow willingly walked into the devil worship room and never came back out. He went in, Disparion came out. And if what Shadow kept hinting at, Maria was a big piece to the puzzle.

Sunshine's nod was all Yang needed. She let out a sigh, then rolled her shoulders back and said "Well, then I'm gonna help you. If Shadow's involved in all this, then finding him may help fix things." Granted, she wasn't exactly sure how finding Shadow would fix things, She wasn't even sure how much help she could give. She'd been getting better at doing deductions and putting clues together to solve a mystery, but she often needed Pitch at her side to help her thought process along. Fighting was still her strongest skill, and she wasn't sure how much she'd use it here unless some man-eating zombies showed up or something. Still, she wanted to be there for Sunshine. It looked her blonde friend needed all the help she could get at this point.

"He would have wanted you to..." But Sunshine stopped herself. Yang was just as stubborn as Shadow, and to talk about him like he was just someone to be swept under the rung..it did nothing to preserve memory of him. His protective nature of Yang was starting to rub off on her, but something else was, too. The understanding of her friend. She sighed and lay a hand close to her gun. Demons and monsters were crawling everywhere nowadays. Who knew if some were lurking close and watching them now? "Okay."

Sunshine seemed ready to protest at first, but then she grew quiet. Yang understood why her first response was to tell her "no" though. She and Shadow were very similar in the fact that they wanted to protect her. Heck, a lot of her friends were like that, especially after the loss of her arm. Yang appreciated the support, and it had been vital in helping her get back on her feet, but she didn't want to be that person who watched from the sidelines while her friends took on difficult tasks all on their own. They had helped her. Now, it was her turn to help them. Sunshine eventually relented, and Yang gave a small smile in return. "Okay, Maria Gerald's gave, here we come," she declared. Of course, that was easier said than done. The cemetery was a pretty decent size. "Um...so, what's the best way to start searching?" she asked.

“Given with how trashed the cemetery is, disturbing wrecked graves is a bad idea,” Sunshine mused. She glanced out at the path littered by stone fragments ra. “That and we don’t know if undead legions are in Disparion's army.” Some of her usual mirth returned in her snort. If she and Yang fought zombies, then well, it’d be the first supernatural being she had fought without Shadow.

"'Cause that's all we need: this search to turn into an episode of the Walking Dead," Yang joked. Of course, the possibility of zombies was an actual thing, so she kept an eye out as she went down a row of graves, peering closely at the names etched onto them. So far, no Maria Gerald. Hell, it was hard to tell what order these graves were even in. She knew families were grouped together, but were those family groups in alphabetical order or something? Were richer people buried in the back of the cemetery or the front? "What kind of clues are we going to look for anyway?" she asked curiously. What could Maria's grave tell them that could help them find Shadow? Were they going to talk to her ghost or something? Was that even allowed?

Sunshine cracked an even wider grin at Yang's joke. Yes, because the last thing this town needed was a hoarde of seemingly unstoppable zombies like they showed in the Walking Dead. She had a hard enough time determining voodoo zombies from someone who was supposedly dead. The corpse attacking her was the last thing she wanted to see. The graved they passed held no recognition. Heck, she should have taken a mental note on where the plot would be. Yang asked what she was looking for. "I'm...not sure," Sunshine admitted with a nervous smile. "To be honest, I was just...hopeful Shadow left something for us to follow there. He never did like unsolved cases."

So, they were going into this blind. Well, it wouldn't be the first time. Some cases were like that. Yang just hoped they'd recognize a clue when they saw it. "He's definitely gonna get a stern lecture about leaving us high and dry when we find him," she said as she peered at another tombstone. It wasn't a question in her mind of whether they'd find Shadow or not. They would, because the alternative was too scary to think about. "Did you see him, before the crazy green light?" she asked. "I was at the office when it went off." She hadn't seen Shadow at all by that point. She wondered who had even see him last before he vanished.

Sunshine's eyes watered despite her stoic, determined face saying she wasn't upset. The truth was she was. Her own partner had kept her in the dark about going in and sacrificing himself. All because Disparion was making him do it. The devil had twisted his own son into being his entryway into the main world above. She bit her lip, forcing herself not to cry. It didn't work. A tear streaked down her face. "Yes," she said bitterly. "Yes, I did see him. I tried to stop him from going in, but he didn't listen. He went in, everything went green and, well," she looked back around, "welcome to Disparion's world."
